Kay Redfield Jamison, An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness
There's plenty of reasons to move your body that have nothing to do with loosing weight. It imporoves anxiety and depression, it's good for your heart, you stay flexible, it's good for your back, it will keep your body pain-free when you're old one day, it's good for circulation, helps with digestion and so on. Don't use it as a punishment.

Faye's wisdom
Even though Spike said he hates kids, he was still sad when Ed left the Bebop ship. He understands that Ed had to go off to find the meaning of her life by being with her father, but he still cherishes the short-lived moments that Ed spent with them in the Bebop ship. Seeing the graffiti made him realized that Ed's stay in the Bebop was always going to be short-lived.
And Ed knew it would have been too painful to say "goodbye" explicitly so she had to do it in writing.
