Chasing the Ghosts of Season 8

Let’s skip the flowery intros and get to the point, because this is important.

Lotor’s vindication and reunion with Allura were originally part of VLD s8 and I can prove it. Most animation relating to this plot was excised, while other clips were re-purposed to make it look like he was dead all along: but some are still in there.

The removal of this plot line was one of the major factors in completely messing up season 8, and it was a change that was made very recently; no earlier than August in fact. There is a significant, non-zero chance that an unedited version of Season 8 exists in its entirety; completely finished.

Lance after S8

Okay so a lot of salt flying around about vld s8. And boy do I get it. I’ve been a klancer this whole time but when I watched ep1 I had the reaction I knew I would have if allurance won out. “Awwwwwww 😍….. Well darn.” They were cute and I love Lance as a sweet very romantic boyfriend.

(did the fact that the sunset scene, which was supposed to be between “friends”, wind up more romantic than the entire allurance date confuse me? Yes. But oh well)

Did I cry like a baby when, after getting them together and having such a sweet romance, they kill Allura. You bet I did!!

BUT! I don’t think that what happens after that is as bad as everyone thinks.

We are all familiar with how the showrunners said that Lance was going to get what he needs, not what he thinks he wants. Thinking about it I don’t think this was meant for his romantic endgame, but for his life in general.

From how Lance acted in the beginning, one of the big things he wanted out of life was recognition. His face on a flag and a parade in his honor. He saw being a hotshot fighter pilot as a way to do that. His big sister already being in the Garrison and a hero admiration for Shiro probably influenced that.

With being a Paladin of Voltron he got those things. But they came with war, pain and loss. So when it was all over? He realized that even when he was getting what he wanted, he was desperately missing his family and their simple life. So now he’s a farmer surrounded by flowers and family who occasionally goes around the universe spreading ideals of cooperation and acceptance to children. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

(Also hc: Lance’s farm is the one who supplies the Juniberry petals for Hunk’s cider)

On the note of his “turning Altean”….. I don’t think he did. I believe that after Allura said that she’d always be with him, she made it literal by transferring some of her quintessence to him. This formed the marks. Why she made the marks specifically? I can think of a couple reasons. 1) Those are very specific to Alteans and as the Altean Princess she gave him a symbol of her people. 2) the marks are tied to being chosen and worthy. Something she wanted Lance to feel. 3) what do you want to bet that at some point since meeting the guy Allura thought about what Lance would look like as an Altean? I’m guessing like the rest if us, she thought it would be a good look on him.

What ever the reason she gave him a ever present reminder that she was with him and she loved him.

Though of course if Lance ever gets into another romantic relationship, it’s gonna have to be with someone who understands what Allura meant to him and accepts that. Maybe someone who knew and cared for her too? Cough *KICK* COUGH.

This fandom has had its ups and downs, and I know I personally moved away from it because of that, but I really appreciate all the love and positivity I’ve seen as we approach the end

Let’s end on this high note so we can look back on these past couple years with some fondness instead of regret

Okay, so this scene:

shows more than the usual 5 or 6 Paladins. It looks like there’s 8:

@starbluesss mentioned that the other people are probably Trigel, Blaytz, and Gyrgan, and I agree with that too. Which means the old and new Paladins are going to meet and talk to one another.

We also see this scene that also has the same original three Paladins being attacked by Honerva:

So far, we’ve only heard about what happened to the old Paladins from Coran. Like Romelle, Coran may be only telling one side of the story (though not necessarily intentionally or maliciously).

My guess is the above scene is a flashback from the old Paladins’ perspective that they share with the new Paladins. This perspective sheds new light on Honerva’s motivations, and perhaps explains what really happened in a way that Coran couldn’t at the end of S3.
