padmé is not a ‘flawless’ character but her flaws are not moral in nature

she, not obi-wan despite what half of this fandom seems to think, is the incorruptible moral good of the PT. she may not always make the “right” choice, but she always makes choices rooted in empathy, non-violence, and love for others.

why is this important? well, first of all, if I see another post talking about padmé “abandoning her morals” for anakin I’m gonna fucking lose it. those are her morals ffs

but also a huge part of her role in the pt is as an equal and opposite force to palpatine. she is the angel on anakin’s shoulder and palpatine is the devil. both are equal players in the battle for anakin’s soul, and for the fate of the galaxy at large

One thing i feel everyone who watches atoc seems to never mention is that after the fire place scene Anakin never ever mentions the idea of him and Padme getting together again. He literally never flirts with her, stares at her romantically or does anything to say he wants to be with her. He literally was like “Okay i did everything i could. I give up” and Padme had to bring it up

100%! exactly: anakin is rejected by padme and respects her wishes, which is something I think demonstrates how much he loves and respects padme, as well as just being a decent human being.

soaking in pro jedi fanon has absolutely ruined many people's ability to appreciate and understand the actual jedi order, as presented in the prequel trilogy, as complacent and discompassionate and corrupt, i.e. deeply flawed and part of the tragedy, not just innocent flawless victims, because no, the jedi canonically were not running soup vans or having tea ceremonies (congrats for stealing from east asian cultures! does the jedi feel special yet? enjoying the widespread unchecked orientalism in pro jedi fan spaces?) or freeing the slaves; they were serving the whims of a corrupt senate, and obi-wan kenobi, the exemplification of a 'good jedi', calls jar jar binks a 'pathetic life form' and a child refugee 'dangerous' (after the oh so compassionate yoda scorned a nine year old for... missing his still enslaved mother, still dressed in the rags given to him by his slave master). where is your vaulted compassion? locked away in your found family jedi fantasy land?

enjoy your fanon (without any orientalism, please and thank you), but stop having the audacity to act shocked when people dare to point out the jedi order's numerous canonical flaws and shortcomings.

Thinking about TCW and IDW comparisons because of course I am, and I think an interesting parallel can be drawn between Slick and Sunstreaker who both betray their “brothers” due to the trauma of war (and slavery on Slick’s part)

I think one of my favorite trans-Star Wars headcanons is t4t anidala because you can use Anakin being Space Jesus to make it so interesting. One would assume (using today’s medical technology) that if Anakin is transmasc and Padme is transfem then Anakin would be the one to become pregnant; BUT, if we consider both the incredible power of technology in Star Wars coupled with Anakin’s insane parentage then all bets are off. You can have Anidala with crazy insane transition options wherein Padme is the one who becomes pregnant OR you can have magic “I got my transfem wife pregnant through the power of the force”. It’s beautiful.

Do people even watch the prequels before they decide that it’s possible to be born evil and that Anakin Skywalker is the perfect example of this?

anakin made padmé happy, and padmé made anakin happy, and please watch AOTC and ROTS and ignore the devil (dave filoni) whispering in your ear.

anidala is larger than life, soulmates, star crossed lovers.

the tragedy does not work if they did not love and trust and respect each other.

anakin only turned to the dark side (and, for that matter, committed the tusken massacre) under extreme circumstances and a lifetime of neglect, grooming and institutional decay. it was not inevitable.

padmé would have lost out on one key bright spot in her otherwise (by AOTC) quite bleak life by not marrying anakin. it was the right choice; it is unfortunate that the galaxy was against her happiness before she was ever born.

Hey gang, can we recenter Lasan as an atrocity that happened to ZEB instead of a regret that KAALLUS gets to feel bad about??

There is obviously room for nuanced conversation about how each of them interact with the Massacre of Lasan post Kallus' defection / post Lira San move, but it is-- quite frankly-- not only tired but deeply disheartening and downright IRRITATING to read posts that forego ALL of that nuance in order to use Lasan as leverage to give Kallus an excuse to wallow in his own pity. I find it very unsettling to read or see things that imply that Zeb is "over Lasan," or "fully healed," because that is such an unfortunate mirror to how actual minorities in the real world are expected to CONSTANTLY be the bigger person and just "get over" their historical and continued oppression.

I dont want to make it sound like Im trying to be The Kalluzeb Police, but I think that conversations revolving around Lasan should be far more centered on the person who's life was stripped away, as opposed to the person who had to atone for it, just as I think those conversations should be centered in real life. I find it deeply tonedeaf to imply that Lasan was an atrocity that Zeb, a character coded to be anything BUT white, would be able to "get over," ESPECIALLY when there are global conflicts taking place-- currently, right now, in the modern day-- that ARE destroying peoples homes, livlihoods, and lives. With that, I double dislike when that "Zeb is over it" rhetoric is used to create a scenario where Kallus' feelings about Lasan are ALSO boiled down, and are made into something akin to white guilt that he ends up coddled by Zeb for having.

AGAIN, I dont want to sound like I am trying to be like Holier Than Thou, cause I'm really not trying to be, like I want all of us to be able to have fun playing with our dolls. With that, i want to make it clearly obvious that I understand that Zeb and Kallus are not real people who we can like genuinely offend, but I want to point out that they exist as allorgories for real people, and real atrocities. Again, play with your dolls, have fun, that's what fandom is for! Its just that sometimes when your dolls are addressing atrocities that happen in the real world to indiginous communities and people of color, its important to remember that nothing exists in a vaccuum, and the ways in which we talk about these characters and their experiences with war, trauma, and loss are going to be a reflection of how we are perceiving the world around us.

Im sorry, but the idea that Zeb is "over" Lasan, an event that ripped his entire life away from him, while Kallus is not? I dont think that's a fair assessment to apply to either of their characters, and I think its equally-- if not moreso-- unfair to any people of color who interact with this community to be put in a space where Zeb is being written to "get over it" for a white mans sake.

I just think it's point blank WEIRD to be centering a man who participated in a genocide rather than the man who survived it.
