My personal HC is that Zoey is a prodigy and ridiculously good at everything and in theirr teenager training years it pissed rumi SOOO badly because of how jealous she was.
Zoey's very intelligent (she came with 57 plans out of thin air when asked and can come incredibly fast with new lyrics and rhymes) and is always solving issues during their hunts while rumi is still struggling to come with solutions adapted for 3 people unique skills, abilities and differents levels of experience.
She's deeply connected to the honmoon (she can summons lots of shin-kals, can make them levitate and is seen in the movie using the honmoon to impulse her in the bathhouse fight scene) and gained her weapons very early in their training while rumi being training since she was 6 and only gained her sword YEARS after
She's fast, she's memorizes choreographys/training stances easily, she's extremally versatile and even her weird little quirks or sometimes awkward social skills/cultural behavior are being refered as either cute or funny (sometimes Zoey says/does things that can come across as rude bc of her American upbringing like being the one to start the meal accidentally or forgetting to refer to the girls as her unnies or mixing words in a weird konglish) by Mira and Celine while Rumi's are unsettling or slightly unnerving (her too wide smile, her appearing without making a sound etc)
and GOD. The worst is: rumi can't even fully hate her!! Bc Zoey is Zoey and she's lovely and vibrant and bubbly and she makes rumi feel loved and special and throws compliments like "omg, rumi you're so cool, you're so beautiful, you're so talented!!" and she says it with all the sincerity in the world!!
So she just spends most of their training years gritting her teeth and trying to not boil with jealousy and bitterness about how unfair she sees the whole thing and also with guilt because Zoey has been nothing but sweet to her and she must truly be a horrible good for nothing demon for feeling this way! (She's not but girly can't accept this yet)
Like fr. Imagine you train your whole life to become a hunter, with this weight in your shoulders not only to achieve something that generations before you never did but also to do that to atone and fix your existence as something that goes against everything they fought for! You've been training since you're super young and you're surrounded by thousands of graves of people who came before you and you just can't fail! You need to be perfect at everything to "fix" your "mistake" of being born.
And then, suddenly, this girl who:
A) is a foreigner | B) is younger than you | C) has started training like months ago | D) is just as socially weird | E) has trouble adjusting to this new culture and F) sometimes mix English and Korean way too much (low, I know, but knowing miss perfect rumi she would probably judge Zoey bc of it at the beginning but feel bad bc of it and keep it internalized)
is just. Better than you at everything!!
