This is a bit of a short ask, but following the Demon Queen Rumi post, I've gotta know if it's just normal food she eats all the time in the demon realm, and where she gets it. :0. I figured since the demon realm is kind of a spiritual realm it'd be hard to grow any crops there.......soul food mayhaps? Or somehow something like offerings. The same way food is left on altars for the dearly departed or at temples, is there a way she could receive food in the demon realm like that?
Huh. Yknow I didnāt think of this. Letās seeā¦
Ok. I got it. Gwi-ma, before he was dethroned and consumed by Rumi, received offerings of raw meats and rare fruits and vegetables. Since his fall, the offerings are still made but now they just go to Rumiās kitchen.
She had become very accustomed to high quality ingredients, so if she ever tries human āfast foodā she will be sick.
Also, the offerings are made by cults via magic circles. One of which tried to sacrifice a human child.
ā¦
That particular cult faced a wrath even Gwi-ma could not survive
Two strings. Something only talked about in the fan fictions Zoey read, or in the drama shows where people ultimately admitted they were lying. Itās supposed to be a falsehood, a joke, a good story to tell to make a universe assigned soulmate seem more romantic.
But for Zoey Choi, itās not a joke. Not a bit. Not a story. Itās her reality.
And she truly has no idea what to do about it.
For as long as Zoey can remember, sheās always had two strings tied around each hand.
The first, on her left hand, is a deep purple. The same shade as the flowers she never learned the name of, wrapped precisely around her ring finger.
The second, on her right, is a violent pink. The kind youād see from graffiti or dyed hair, wrapped tightly around her middle finger.
When she gets bored, Zoey likes to twist the strings around one another, tugging them both at the same time so the two people on the other end notice. Thy end up tugging back, unraveling what sheād done.
If felt nice, knowing at least two people cared enough to acknowledge she existed.
When Zoey had first told someone else about the two lines, it had been her then -now ex- best friend Magdalene. Magdalene had told her to be serious, and Zoey had told her she was. Magdalene had changed the subject, so Zoey assumed that was the end of it.
But the next day at school, everyone seemed to know. Zoey Choi thinks she has two strings. Names had started to float around the hall after that, ranging from simple teasing to straight up slurs. Zoey tried to ignore it, and she was able to for a little while.
Until Magdalene started destroying her notebooks. The ones that held lyrics about how she feels, the sketches of herself and two mystery people, and the occasional drawing of someoneās torso, arms crossed, as strings of purple and pink wrap around their forearms.
Zoey had to move schools after they continued for three weeks unabated.
She never did tell anyone else about it. Her parents assumed it was just a ploy for attention, so they didnāt bring it up again. Her āfriendsā didnāt contact her once she left school, so Zoey became a very lonely girl.
As the years drifted by, her only comfort was the strings, on her ring and middle fingers, connecting her to the two people who would someday accept her fully.
Or, so she hoped.
It wouldnāt be until she turned twenty that she moved to Seoul. She had accepted a scholarship to attend the university there, wanting to escape the crushing loneliness that surrounded her at her hometown. She played with the strings while she flew, humming quietly in delight as they reacted every time before responding in kind.
Her mind drifted back to last year. The two strings had tugged in sync for a few moments, paused, before doing so again. Sheād tugged back in equal joy and sorrow, because that meant the two people on the other side had met each other. She could only hope that when she found them or they her that sheād be included in their hearts.
She had no way to know she had already taken a place within both womenās very souls.
When she had landed, Zoey could we the strings more clearly then before, but she simply attributed it to the lingering drowsiness from the flight.
Her arrival was with no fanfare, no friends or family to greet her, but that was expected. No one had seen her off, either, both of her parents claiming other responsibilities were keeping them. She wanted to be angry, but could only feel resigned. She knew they wouldnāt come, not even if she broke her arm again.
And so, Zoey entered the university. She had hoped to make connections, make friends, while she were here. But everyone was off put by her lack of manners, how American her accent was, the way she would get too excited about something.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
All Zoey felt like she could do was wrong.
Until she saw them.
Two beautiful women attending the same uni, who walked right by her without noticing.
The taller of the two, whom Zoey learned was called Mira later, screamed the kind of danger one would associate with a lioness. Sharp looks and sharper words kept people away from her, and she didnāt hesitate to fight people physically, either.
The other, Rumi, was dangerously the way a tiger would be. Lithe, powerfully built but in an elegant way, as if she could dance through hoardeās of demons like the legends of old. Her voice was beautiful, ethereal, and Zoey was the sole enjoyer aside from Mira.
Because the two women lived next door to her.
Now, you probably guessed who the two strings belonged too, right? Youāre probably wondering now why Zoey, the sweet girl whoās been hurt so much, canāt see it?
You see, the strings could only remain visible from a certain distance. Zoey knows the two other parts of her soul are here, somewhere, but she cannot follow the strings anymore.
Because a soulmate is not a soulmate simply because of what the universe says it is. A soulmate is the person with whom you will become closest too, and whether itās platonic or romantic does not matter.
As for our Zoey, she doesnāt know her soulmates are next door to her. And they do not know itās her, either.
The two girls grew up in different houses, yet somehow lived terrifyingly similar lives. Pressures from all sides, near impossible demands, and a very dangerous marriage for one of them that wouldāve been finalized if not for them meeting one another.
The two girls had run away that night. They know they belong to each other, their strings manifesting again after their first kiss, yet they also know this impossible truth.
Rumi has two strings. One is a sharp pink tied hesitantly around her pinkie, the color reminding her of the blade her mother had gifted her before her death. The other is a deep teal, tied chaotically around her index finger and reminding her of the ocean.
Mira has two strings. One is a deep violet purple, like the colors of the sky right before sunrise and after sunset, wrapped carefully around her ring finger. The other is a playful teal, tied haphazardly around her thumb and making her think of the fish she would sometimes see in the water.
For years the two would tug on their strings, enjoying the knowledge that somewhere out there not one, but two people were waiting for them. Once Mira and Rumi met they both talked and realized the same thing, that their third is still missing.
And so, they sent a message. A synchronized pull, a message that they are waiting for her and are waiting together. She had tugged back mere moments later, filling them both with hope.
The day Zoey had arrived, their strings connecting to her had vanished, merely leaving the ones wrapped around their fingers. So, they began their search through the college, checking and re-checking every freshman.
No one stood out until Zoey literally ran into them.
This chaotic American girl who still sometimes panicked and cursed in Spanish slammed full force into both of them while getting to her next class. Mira had been ready to scold the girl who ran into them, but froze as two eyes lined that very same shade of teal met hers.
Mira noticed right after that her eyeshadow, a bright, garish pink on one side and a deep, violent purple on the other.
The three stared at one another for a few more moments before Zoey realized what sheād just done, and who sheād just ran into. She stood, apologizing in shaky Korean, before running away. After a moment she paused, turned, and walked past them, determinedly not looking at them as she went the right way to class.
Mira told Rumi her suspicion. The two agreed to try to get to know her, ad besides, even if she isnāt the one theyāve been waiting for she still seemed⦠interesting.
They ran into her, metaphorically speaking, a lot more often than they realized they had been after that. Theyād see her at the library, studying two separate books at once somehow, or at the park with headphones in going for a jog. One time they even spotted her on the roof across from their building, skateboarding.
But the one place they never expected to see her was outside their door, cheeks stuffed full of shrimp chips.
They had been leaving to go out, hoping to get some takeout, when both of them froze. Zoey froze as well, slowly turning to face them with cheeks as full as a chipmunks.
Mira canāt help it, she giggles at the sight. Rumi tries to stifle it, but another glance at the mortified expression has her giggling too. Zoey finished chewing quickly, mortified, but Mira stops her from running away with a gentle hand on her shoulder.
She apologizes for reacting like that, admitting that she hadnāt expected to find a cute girl in the hall right when they were leaving to get dinner. She fights a grin as Zoey turns red at the compliment, stuttering out a response.
With a quick glance the two women agree; Zoey should come with them. A quick invite is extended, and Zoey does try to refuse, but her traitorous gut gurgled right as sheād tried to.
Zoey glared at her gut. Rumi stifled another laugh.
The dinner that night was a pleasant one. Conversation somehow flowed naturally between the three of them, Zoeyās rambling mixing with Miraās dry remarks and Rumiās occasional questions making the hour skip by unnoticed.
When it ended they offered to walk Zoey home. Imagine their surprise when Zoey stopped right next to their door. Mira, ever the bold one, decided to make the first move. A single kiss on Zoeyās cheek.
Zoey, of course, froze for a solid five seconds while her brain rebooted. Rumi took advantage of this and kissed her on the other cheek.
The two wished Zoey a goodnight and left her standing frozen in the hallway. Once her brain finally reset, she quickly went into her room and quietly screamed into a pillow. She had to be quiet, she had new neighbors/crushes.
She could only hope her soulmates liked them when she finally finds them.
The three of them settle into a carefully equilibrium over the next few weeks. Mira and Rumi would more often then not ākidnapā Zoey to go eat with them for lunchās, and Zoey would invite the two to her room for Dinners she made.
During the day, the three of them would walk to classes together when they could, talking and joking with each other. The three of them clicked in the way old childhood friends do, with a bone deep knowing that something thatās been missing has finally been found.
But something is lurking between the three of them, something that theyāve been tip-toeing around.
The strings.
Mira and Rumi can see the one connecting them still, that remains a constant.
But Zoey canāt see them, or the ones connecting her to them, until they finally choose to be together.
Zoey is scared to tell them. Over the last few weeks, sheās come to realize that the odds of them being her soulmates is fairly high. But previous experience has shown her just how painful it can be to be wrong. She knows them now, knows they would never be cruel to her, but still.
Sheās worried theyāll reject her, make fun of her, taunt her about the āfake stringsā.
Mira and Rumi, for their part, have been waiting for Zoey to ask them about it. They donāt want to pressure her, and donāt want to make it awkward if she isnāt their soulmate. Sheās told them some of what happened when she was in middle school, the awful girl who bullied her, as well as the people pleasing habits she developed in response.
Theyāre all on the edge, careful not to tip over from friends into something more.
Right up until one of them slipped.
Rumi got a call one night. A number she didnāt recognize, so she answered.
She would never have answered if sheād known who it was.
Gwi-maās voice came through, saying sheās a hard woman to find. Rumi didnāt hesitate, simply hung up before snapping her phone in half.
But just hearing his voice is enough. The voice of the man who had tried for so long to mold her into the perfect wife for his nephew, Jinu. Rumi starts to have a panic attack right then and there, in the hallway outside her room.
Zoey hears the sounds of strangled breaths and comes out to see whatās happening. She knows the signs of a panic attack, and she knows how to deal with them.
Slowly, she coaxes Rumi through it using breathing exercises and grounding techniques. After a while Rumi asks for a hug, which Zoey gives her. After a few minutes Rumi pulls away, not meeting her eyes. She apologizes about the panic attack.
Zoey flicks her forehead.
At Rumiās indignant look, Zoey says apologizing for a panic attack is the literal last thing someone should do after a panic attack. Rumi apologizes again for apologizing, earning her another forehead flick.
The levity fades as Zoey asks if Rumi wants to talk about it. Rumi hesitantly says she does.
Back before Uni, back a month before she met Mira, Rumi had been set to marry Jinu, whose soulmate had died recently. Her well intentioned aunt Celine didnāt know this at the time, but Gwi-ma had been the one to kill him.
His name had been Abby, but Gwi-ma didnāt like that a man was tied to another man.
So heād had it look like Abby got drunk and got into a car wreck. Jinu knew about it, but he was powerless to stop Gwi-ma. Celine had set them up after hearing what happened, since she had known Jinuās family for years.
That⦠Demon of a man had made Rumiās life a living hell for three months. Heād forced her to cut off contact with her aunt under the guise of āpreparing to be a wifeā, heād somehow gotten ahold of her bank information and had control of it so she couldnāt buy anything. He restricted what she could eat, wear, her activityās, everything.
Her only light was the two strings attached to her hands.
The escape with Mira had ultimately been rather anti-climactic. Gwi-ma had taken Jinu out to a business dinner, and security had been unusually lax that night. Later, Rumi would find out Celine had been informed of the truth by Mira and sheād bribed the security team.
Sheād heard later that Gwi-ma fired the whole security team, but she hadnāt really cared. All she knew was she was safe again, and Celine had severed all ties to Saja industries. In fact, sheād even managed to get the story out to the press, and the once powerful company fell into near ruin.
Rumi and even managed to get her bank back into her control, transferring all the money into a new account Mira had set up for her.
Rumiās story ended at Uni, when she and Mira finally kissed for the first time. All they had to do was wait for the third and theyād be-
Rumi cut herself off then, going still. Zoeyās face was unusually unreadable, and when she spoke she caught Rumi very off guard. She asked if they were waiting for their third soulmate.
Rumi hesitantly admitted yes, they were. She waited as Zoey glanced down at her own hands before looking back up at Rumi. She quietly asked what color the second string was for them. Rumi said it was a beautiful teal color, though she hasnāt seen it recently. I vanished the day before they met Zoey.
Rumi takes a risk, then. She asks what colors Zoey had. Zoey stiffens for just a moment before relaxing with a slow breath. She says they were a stark pink and a beautiful purple.
Rumi quietly asks if Zoey is willing to take the risk of being their soulmate.
Zoey says yes.
Mira returned an hour later to find Zoey and Rumi cuddling on their bed, watching an old American cartoon called Winx. Upon seeing Mira, the two jumped her and dragged her to bed.
The conversation takes about an hour in total after that. Mira mildly disbelieving that Zoey thinks that itās worth trying, even if they arenāt soulmates, and Rumi trying to figure out how lucky she is. Zoey is personally beyond excited to get to date the two hottest people on campus, but she keeps that little tidbit to herself for now.
The conversation slowly ebbs, until Rumi slowly sits up to look down at Zoey sandwiched between them. Zoey is about to ask whatās wrong when Rumi asks if she can kiss her. Zoeyās brain goes blank as Mira sits up and asks the same.
After a few moments of gay panic, Zoey nods.
Rumiās kiss is firm yet gentle, like a guiding hand on someoneās back as they move across a slippery surface. Itās grounding and warm and so, so good. Then she pulls back, smiling, and then Mira is suddenly there. Miraās kiss is impatient yet restrained, a fire burning beneath ice that she held back with carefully.
They do this a few times, exchanging gentle and rough kisses and quiet whispers with each other.
No one notices the strings finally connecting the three of them.
They donāt need to see them, after all.
They have been found.
ā¦
Oh. And Gwi-ma? He became a drunken bitter fool that found Rumiās number because she became the president of the social movement club.
Jinu, surprisingly enough, ended up joining a throuple of his own with a man who insisted his name was Mystery when he first met him and a pink haired man that referred to himself as romance. Theyāre both dorks, but he loved them both anyways.
ā
Hope yāall enjoyed! This one was kicking around in the drafts for a while lol.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
So to that random anon who sent that ask earlier: Chapter 14 is live! (I was mostly done with it when I saw that lol got to steal some of this chapter from my old draft.)
Snowed in with Mira and Rumi, Zoey finally gets a glimpse of their lives. And Mira finally opens up to Zoey about her past, for better or worse. (TWs are in effect and in the Authorās Notes)
Ryu Rumi is the queen of demons. Sure, letās see.
āā
She has lived for twenty years under the Honmoon, the great barrier that kept her predecessor, Gwi-ma, and his hoards from taking souls. She dethroned him when she was still just a child, and now she rules with an iron fist.
Well, not quite Iron.
āRuuuuuumi!ā Jinuās singsong voice came from the entrance of her study, making her glance at him for a moment.
āHello, Jinu.ā Rumi said. āWhat new headache do you bring me?ā
Jinu scoffed in mock offense, placing his hand on his chest. āI donāt always bring a new headache! Maybe I was bringing you something to eat!ā
Rumi paused, lifting her unimpressed gaze to meet Jinuās. Jinu cracked almost immediately.
āOk, ok, fine. I do technically have a new headache. But! Itās one that really canāt be taken care of without you!ā Jinu cheerfully said.
Great. Another thing that requires her ācomplete and undivided attentionā, just like always.
āAnd what, pray tell, might that be?ā Rumi sighed.
Jinu perked up at her answer, knowing it would mean she is willing to deal with it. āNothing much, just two mortal girls that fell into the demon realm.ā
Rumi jolted hard, her ink well spilling onto one of the papers she was signing. With a glare, Rumiās stood up, fixing the ink well without looking.
āJinu, I swear to the Honmoon above that if you are lying I will have your tongue taken out again.ā She threatened.
Jinu held up his hands, stepping back as Rumi swept from the room. āPromise! Their in the northern grove, they seem very confused.ā He pauses for another moment, considering, before nodding. āThey also were able to summon honmoon weapons-ā
Rumi is already gone as soon as she hears the last two words, the rest of them lost in the rush of movement as she slipped between the gaps of air and dust. Stepping forwards, Rumi let her eyes open.
In front of her stood two young woman, both glaring at her with open hostility. One of them, the taller of the two with starkly pink hair, is holding a glowing gok-do. The shorter of the two is holding a shin-Kal, something that makes Rumi pause for a moment in surprise before shaking it off.
The three women watch each other for a moment, waiting to see what the other would do. Rumi breaks the silence with a loud sigh.
āOk, why are you two in my realm?ā Rumi asks.
The taller one narrowed her eyes at Rumi. āYour realm?ā The disbelief is evident in her mocking tone.
Rumi tries to ignore it. āYes, my realm. Why are you two here? The whole point of the Honmoon is to keep humans up there and demons down here.ā
The shorter girls shoulders drop as she looks at Rumi in complete bafflement. āWait, your Gwi-ma? Youāre a lot prettier than I thought youād be.ā She slapped a hand over her mouth as she finished speaking with a small squeak.
A faint blush spread across Rumiās face before she could stop it. She struggled to focus as she stammered, āAh. Uh, ok so Iām not Gwi-ma. My nameās Rumi, can I ask your names?ā
āZoey! And this is Mira!ā Zoey spoke before Mira could say something, drawing a heated look from the taller girl. Zoey withered a little under it, shrugging apologetically.
āNice to meet you both. Now, can you please tell me how you got down here? I already have a nightmare of paperwork to deal with just because you two are down here.ā Rumiās voice drifted dangerously close to pouty, despite her best effort. Something about these woman was making it difficult for her to keep the usual mask up.
Mira speaks up this time, eyes narrowed. āWe were sent here to kill Gwi-ma, to end his threat forever. Not⦠whatever you are.ā
With a sigh, Rumi waved her hand, manifesting a small round table with snacks and three seats. The two hunters tensed up at the motion, but Rumi didnāt let her own hesitation show, instead sitting calmly in one of the seats and taking a bite out of one of the treats.
āSo, you were sent here to kill the previous ruler of demons, Gwi-ma, but instead find out heās dead. So now I want you to ask yourselves; do you want to try and kill the new one, or join her for some treats and drinks?ā Rumi kept her eyes trained on the two. She was feigning nonchalance and could only hope that the two would relax at the calm air.
Zoey took a step forwards, her eyes trained on one of the cupcakes, but Mira put a hand on her shoulder. āZo, what happens if this is like the fade realm you told me about the other day?ā
Zoey pauses, giving Mira a strange look, one Rumi unintentionally mirrors. āWait, do you mean the fay realm? Mira, this is nothing even close to the Fay realm beyond the beautiful and definitely dangerous woman.ā
Rumi couldnāt hide the way her patterns tinged pink at the compliment, and she pointedly looked away as Mira looked at her.
Hopefully she didnāt notice.
(She absolutely noticed.)
After a moment Rumi turned back, meeting Miraās gaze. āSo, tea and treats, or do you want to try to fight me?ā
Zoey had her back to Rumi, but whatever she did drew Miraās attention. Mira immediately flinched, like sheād been hit, but the way her cheeks were slowly coloring was a bit telling as to how effective Zoeyās strategy was.
āFine! One drink, and you have to explain how you killed the king of demons.ā Mira sat down, eyeing the drink warily before taking a small sip. She hummed, seemingly unconsciously, in approval.
Zoey sat down next to her, taking a big bite out of the cupcake she was eyeing earlier. Then, much to Rumiās horror, she began to speak. āSo! How exactly did you beat the king of demons? And are you the reason demon attacks have become so rare?ā
Rumi took a moment to collect herself, fighting down the odd mix of revulsion and fascination that seeing the younger girl devour the cupcake gave rise to. āI ate him.ā
Both girls choked at the same time.
āWHAT?!ā
āā
I dunno this popped into my head and I thought it was a fun idea. Rumi, not knowing sheās a half demon and managing to kill Gwi-ma, becomes the new demon king.
Mira and Zoey are hunters who never found their third, and were tasked with killing Gwi-ma in his āobviously weakenedā state since the breachās are so rare and only have a couple demons leaving them.
Jinu absolutely knows both of these things and is living for the drama.

if found, please return to [ovenglovee] - A soft Rumi character study featuring (more) cows, collars and a praise kink. (Copied from fic summary. This is so sweet, I want to eat it. Author if you're reading this on Tumblr, can I eat it?)
Something that the "ugh, why didn't Rumi just tell Mira and Zoey about her patterns?" crowd likes to ignore is that, even setting aside the fact that the girls gleefully slaughter demons and say anything with patterns has to die (especially Mira on the latter), when Rumi does try to express her concerns with Takedown, she's shut down by BOTH of them, aggressively so with Mira. Yes, Rumi is beating around the bush about her true problems with it, but it's not until an ENTIRE TRAINFUL OF PEOPLE DIE PARTIALLY BECAUSE THEY WERE FIGHTING that they actually listen to her, because they weren't even really giving her much of a chance to explain herself beforehand! Why would Rumi risk telling them about her patterns during the movie given they aren't even listening to her about her problems with a song?
And I was watching a YouTube video the other day that said that Mira and Zoey mock Celine, and Rumi should've taken the opportunity to tell Mira and Zoey about her patterns at that moment....completely ignoring the fact that RIGHT AFTER Mira and Zoey mock Celine, they double down and are like, "yeah, but she's right, we have to hide this problem with your voice until we can fix it." You can even see Rumi get a sad, resigned sort of disappointed look in that scene right after they say that.
So yeah, if you can't tell, I really hate it when people bash Rumi for not telling Mira and Zoey her secret, or at least, when people insist that Rumi had ample opportunities to share her secret during the movie and had no reason to believe that Mira and Zoey wouldn't accept and forgive her.
It's bad situation overall. No matter what, if a significant time period passed between Mira and Zoey meeting Rumi and them discovering her patterns, they would be hurt and feel betrayed by her keeping such a massive secret from them regardless of the circumstances they discovered the secret, and Rumi (and Celine) likely think, not wrongly, that them discovering her secret, even if she just tells them, could cause a rift in their relationship and cause the Honmoon to weaken/the girls to be uncoordinated in being a united front against demons, putting Korea at risk.
But on the other hand, I can completely understand if Celine didn't want to start of her and Rumi's new relationship when they first met Mira and Zoey by saying, "Hello, you have been recruited to fight demons. Also, this girl that I've raised who will be part of your team is part demon." Setting aside the fact that teaching Mira and Zoey that there's complexity among demons could easily get them killed if they hesitated for just a moment while killing demon, I feel like telling Mira and Zoey that they've been recruited to kill demons with a half-demon would lead to them starting out their new mentorship under Celine by not trusting her or Rumi.
Either way, it's a shitty situation from all ends no matter how you slice it. But I'll firmly stand by the fact that it's completely understandable why Rumi gravitated towards Jinu, why she didn't tell Mira and Zoey about her patterns, and how their behavior reinforced her idea that they would not be happy and would not accept her if she revealed her secret.
I'm 100% open to the idea that Rumi is selfish in regards to her relationship with Jinu in the sense that she does not keep trying to kill him even though she SEES the staggering amount of people his plan is getting killed, killing him would be a devastating blow to the Saja Boys, and he straight-up tells her he is not a good guy and isn't the dude to help her, insisting that he's not redeemable (when I first watched the movie, I kept thinking, "Is she ever going to bring up the fact that tons of people are dying because of him?") but in regards to her hiding her patterns? I don't see her actions there as stupid and selfish, but rather intense self-preservation.
au in which the golden honmoon is impossible solely because one of the hunters is a half demon.
okay, i need to be angsty about this thought. so, prepare yourselves.
celine figures this out. since rumi has been alive, she has been researching demons, collecting old documents and diary entries and everything one can imagine. truly, it was a matter of time before she realised that rumi's existence was hindering the last step needed for the golden honmoon.
they were close, really close. they'd come back home from a show and shove each others' shoulders with a grin; did you see that? a gold streak passed through, i swear, i swear i saw it!
but they weren't there. it wasn't enough and it could never be enough.
of course, the first stage of grief is denial, and since celine had already started mourning rumi (though she was very much alive at that point), she was sure that there was a loophole somewhere. but no, not this time.
it took her weeks, months of postponing the decision. but it had to be done. after all, it was a simple calculation. one person who she loved the most of all or the whole world?
(besides, she already lost dear people before. what's one more?)
there's a concert to be held. rumi gets sick the night before, calls celine, calls bobby. she can't sing, can barely move. her head is thumping, not a migraine, but something resembling one. she feels feverish and confused and dazed.
mira and zoey are ready to cancel the concert, but alas, celine ushers them to go. after all, the fans cannot be disappointed.
and so they go, and celine tells rumi to join her at the compound. she makes her her favourite tea, strokes her hair as if she is 5 years old again. whispers sweet nothings and shares her juvenile memories filled with mischief. offering comfort, knowing this is the last chance to do it.
she doesn't explain in to her. doesn't have the heart.
(she has come so far. she does not hate her reflection anymore, doesn't bury her nails into the markings of her skin. celine cannot let her know that she is cursed after all.)
she just does it. she strikes a blade through her. watches the blood hug her cursedcursedcursed flesh.
in the centre of seoul, the concert is magnificent. what is more magnificent than anything is when it happens. mira and zoey stop to watch it, watch the strings tighten, the iridescent blanket shine more and more with every wave.
it is sealed.
when they get home, rumi is nowhere to be found. they call her, but she does not answer.
they go to the compound where celine is kneeling by a new grave, surrounded by the most beautiful gold sheen any hunter has ever seen.
One year. It took one year for Mira and Zoey to find out how to bring her back. One year where the two of them searched tirelessly through the hunters archives, ancient tomes, and historical records.
There is one way.
They must crack the Honmoon apart once more.
In the year since Rumiās murder, the two hunters learned a lot about themselves. They learned how much hatred the human heart can hold for one woman, who every day they curse for being a coward and running away instead of confronting them after explaining what she had done. They learned the anguish that can be held as well, how their very souls can be rent apart by the knowledge that they would never hear that voice again.
And they learned how to truly dedicate themselves to something in a way that not even the Honmoon had managed.
Because their duty, their honor, their love, all of it, was for one woman.
A woman whose body lay in a special coffin, preserved perfectly, under the Hunters compound.
Rumi.
The day had finally arrived. They had gathered everything; a piece of an old guardian corrupted by greed, to pull the soul back into the body. A shard of the blade used to end her life, to anchor her death to her rebirth. And a piece of their hair, to permanently tether her life to theirs so they could not be truly killed and she would stay alive.
Celine would feel the Honmoon scream in pain, but also⦠relief. She didnāt understand it, and so she ran. Ran, as the golden Honmoon which was meant to be impenetrable cracked apart into the familiar blue barrier. Ran as she watched as the greatest and most terrible of burdens she had brought upon herself became worth nothing.
She ran as Rumiās death became and meant absolutely nothing.
She arrived at the Hunters compound as the first breach in over a year opened, letting forth a hoard of demons. She could see flashes of light already countering them, the familiar blade of Mira and quick flashes of Zoey telling her they were already battling it.
She knows they hate her for what she did. Now, she wouldnāt be surprised if they tried to kill her after seeing how Rumiās death was meaningless.
Yet she fought. She would not allow the two woman who she had already hurt so much fall to these demons.
She never saw the club coming. But she did feel it.
As it cracked her ribs.
Celine laid sprawled on the ground, pained gasps falling from her lips. The ogre reared its club again, ready to kill the failure of a mother, failure of a hunter, failure of a mentorā¦
But it never fell.
Celine watched in horrified awe as a starlight blade she thought sheād never see again cut through the demon.
Rumi stood, panting, in a crop top and shorts. Her patterns are wrapped around her heart, right where Celine had stabbed her.
Rumi has returned to life, and broke the Honmoon to do so.
ā
Just thought Iād take a stab at un-dooming them. As my longtime followers know I canāt stand leaving angst no comfort angsty for long. Enjoy!

The game of cat and mouse has begun.
Can Mira and Zoey catch Rumi before she leaves Seoul?
Will Maeve stop being a menace to society?
Why the duck are demons pretending to be grandmas?
Bonus Scene!
Maeve waited until Rumi was busy on the hotel phone again. Something about banks and the Swiss government. All it sounded like the money was going to be trusted to other people and not safe in their hands. A Fact that made Maeve chafe.
The hotel they were staying in was nice enough, nicer than any back alley or park bench Maeve had been utilizing before. Slipping away to the lobby bathroom, Maeve triple checked she was the only one among the stalls.
A hum rose in her chest, with carefully control Maeve transitioned to a whistle. A soft slow melancholy tone built, one note at a time. Climbing higher, climbing bright. The threads of the Honmoon danced around her as she whistled. She'd never sung before, it was something she knew she had to learn now that Rumi explained what being a hunter was. At least melodies came naturally to her.
The Honmoon rose like ocean waves splashing against her stomach. She played with the ripples, pushing and pulling. Her whistle reaching the highest of its range.
She let the last note hang in the air. A promise that life was brighter now with Rumi at her side. Having someone willing to be there. Someone willing to promise what she had wanted more than anything.

Summary:
After years of hiding parts of herself from the world, Rumi finally allows herself to be loved. But when a buried truth threatens the life she has built with Mira and Zoey, she has to decide whether love is something that can be broken or something worth fighting for.
I have a bunch of them where itās like a premise or a short plot description tbh. One of my favs is the accidental kidnapping one where Mira gets Zoey out of her parents abusive house by breaking into a car nearby and hot wiring it.
Itās Rumiās car, and she fell asleep in the backseat because she still had several hours to drive to get home and thought the neighborhood looked safe. When she realized what happened by eavesdropping she becomes the funniest person ever by just jumping in the conversation naturally and offering them both a safe place to stay at.
Screaming ensues.
19 the most interesting topic youāve researched for a fic
Hmm⦠ima be honest Iām not sure. I donāt usually need to do much research for the fics Iām writing since I have a decent grasp on the info in said fics.
Probably the closest one would be for the solo!rumi spinoff au where she has a shock collar, I looked up what repeated electrical shocks does to a human body. It was pretty interesting ngl.
30 share a fic youāre especially proud of
My pride and Joy, the hunted!Rumi story. It took me three months of writing and another month of editing with my beta reader before it was finished. Iām working on ch 2 now, itās about a quarter of the way done š

It's all wonderful. Zoey Mira meeting Rumi and immediately helping her. The Abusive Celine turning into CELINE REDEMPTION, Rumi being a feral hunter that Just Wanted Celine To Look At Her For Once, angst, hurt, comfort, more angst, and even more angst with happy ending! VERY happy ending!!!!
Just wanted to say I loved the idea of Rumi wearing a mask to fight demons with Zoey and Mira.
All in all, absolutely amazing expansion on the idea and absolutely made me smile super wide to read it.
Would break Rumi's arm again to get more. Just a small bit of angst. As a treat.
Oh my word I have a regular anon, Iām honored! š
Thank you so much! Iām glad you enjoyed it, I adore putting Rumi in a mask cus it looks cool and makes it so Rumi can live the double life if she so chooses. I also really enjoyed getting to have fluffier auās since solo is so angsty š
Oh poor Rumi, she just canāt escape the broken arm
I bring a āMira and Zoey are adult women who saw their best friend sobbing and pleading with them and chose independently, by themselves, to raise deadly weapons at her and watched her run off, which is a choice that cannot be fully blamed on Celine or Jinu, and it is problematic that Rumi apologizes to them but they never apologize to herā vibe to the function the KPDH fandom doesnāt really like
I understand WHY they did that but damn, if my bff was sobbing and pleading with me to listen to her, I wouldnāt point a gun at her even if I thought she was dangerous. I wouldnāt be interrupting her, cutting her off, throwing accusations. I would at least LISTEN TO HER. If they had listened to her and let her TALK, she wouldnāt have been upset enough to ripple the Honmoon during their conversation.
ā¦.ok Iām not gonna name names or point any fingers, but someone on this tumbler account blacked out and wrote the majority of ch 1 for the cheater Zomira x Rumi auā¦
Thank you for answering the question about Fluffy!Solo!Rumi. It made me so happy to see.
While I understand the appeal for Angst in this fandom, it can also be a bit bitter of a pill to read so many angst fics back to back.
To ask another question, and expand upon Imo Poppy and Rumi, what about if Poppy actually told Rumi about her heritage and helped train her without hiding anything.
I feel that would lead a very good way into the What It Sounds Like message of "Nothing But The Truth Now" and could open a lot of avenues for exploration.
Ok first, always a pleasure to write fluff, angst just comes naturally to me so it takes a minute to figure it out lol. Second, yeah itās pretty hard, the angst is amazing but thereās just so much of it š
Ah now this would be a fun variance. Instead of being worried for Rumi after removing the spell this time, Imo tells her to be careful who she summons her sword in front of as well as not to let her guard down around the hunters.
I imagine the first meeting between Mira, Zoey, and Rumi would be during a hunt while Celineās looking into local artists to find the third. Rumi (with a mask of course. Gotta get the style points) shows up to help out before dipping without a word.
Rinse and repeat with the two on their own a couple times before Celine comes up with a plan. She ends up hiding nearby and when Rumi shows up she basically jumps outta the bushes and tackles her. Rumi, not expecting sudden physical contact, panics and teleports.
Que a very tense standoff where Celine suddenly yells at the other two to grab the mystery woman. Rumi ends up running while being chased, heavily relying on her teleporting, before managing to lose them in an alley.
The next few breachās she doesnāt show up, and Mira and Zoey are nervous theyāve scared off their third hunter whoās maybe a demon? Celineās terrified a demon somehow ate the third hunter or the third made a deal, and itās onto a matter of time until sheās fully consumed/taken control of.
Eventually, a breach thatās too big happens and Mira and Zoey start getting overwhelmed. Celine isnāt there since she was prepping an anti teleportation rune they could slap on Rumi, so thereās no backup coming. Right as Zoeyās soul starts to get sucked Rumiās there in a puff of mist and rage, her sword cleaving through the demon.
With Rumiās help (she starts singing in sync. Mira and Zoey had discussed it before and began singing one of the three part harmony song that theyād made in collaboration with another artist weeks ago.) the three hunters quickly clear the breach.
Rumi turns to run but Mira asks her to wait. Rumi, surprisingly, listens and turns. She hadnāt actually expected Rumi to listen so Mira flounders for a moment. Thankfully Zoey pops up and holds out her hand, introducing herself. Rumi hesitantly takes her hand as well, introducing herself stage name.
The three sit down at a nearby diner after the introductions, and talk. Mira and Zoey are stunned to learn about half-demons, and Rumi is stunned to learn sheās soul bound to two people sheās never met before. They eventually agree to do a in person collab to see how they work together.
Celine, meanwhile, finally prepped the rune and when Mira and Zoey get back she shows it to them. They hesitantly admit they wonāt need it. At her disbelieving look (āThis took me four days to make!ā) they explained everything.
Celine is shocked about it, but eventually relents so long as she could watch the three of them working together. (She keeps the rune ready, just in case.) Mira and Zoey go to the collab with Celine, which surprises Rumi. Mira quickly explains sheās just here to observe, to ensure their compatible hunters.
Rumi hesitantly agrees, and the three get to work. Celine quickly realizes that yeah, this girl is the third hunter and a half demon.
I imagine this version would have the big angst being one of the oldest hunters, the last of the third generation back (the ones before sunlight sjsters) comes to kill Rumi. Eventually theyāre able to get her to back off but not until Rumi gets her arm broken. (Rip Rumiās arm, always broken lol).
But yeah, this one would be way less angsty. I enjoyed this ask ngl, even if I went a little sideways on it š
Also, sorry about not getting around to yalls asks. Iāve been fighting major writers block the last few days on top of dealing with familial drama. I promise Iāll answer them all(albeit late) but I just get really into writing a ficlet answer or one of the summaryās and I just run out of time š
