today i am thinking about merpeople inducing. taking a fish fin left over from their most recent meal, or a long, slithery piece of kelp, or a snapped piece of old, frayed rope, and pulling open the plates over their gills to carefully tease the filaments, slipping the tool further and further in until it reaches the rakers-

or needing to clear their gills stat, no time to find a tool, so they slide their fingers in and thumb along the ridges like the pages of a book-

or delibrately stirring up sand at the bottom and swimming through, gulping down the dusty water to push through their gills until they're helpless in the midst of a fit-

or hauling themselves up onto dry land and marvelling at how different a gull feather feels when dry as to when wet, and becoming desperately curious as how it feels on their gills, and in their nose-

or dragging themself further inland, into the forest or jungle that come right to the beach, or to the edge of the garden bordering the cottage on the shore, and meeting plants they've never encountered living under the water, some of which are heavy with a fine yellow dust that smells so sweet-

y'know those like. cat toys with a feather or fluffy thing at the end of them. yeah. jokingly waving one of those in a catboy's face only to brush it against his nose by accident, making him sneeze

Thinking about sneezing while hiding situations that are slightly more unconventional than the typical "stuck in a dusty closet". It's a classic for a reason ofc, and still incredibly hot, but consider a few variations with me:

- A hayfever sufferer somewhere outdoors, think getting caught in the woods and having to duck into the bushes to hide while all the pollen sets them off

- Two people hiding in the same tight space– one owns a cat/dog, the other is allergic and getting set off by being in such close proximity to the fur stuck to the first person's clothes

- Photic sneezer hiding in a dark room and having to stay quiet when a person they're hiding from opens the door and lets the light shine in

- Hiding in a room that's strongly scented with some sort of perfume/incense that's really starting to get to them (or hiding with someone wearing perfume)

- The person hiding has a cold, maybe even combined with any of the above– maybe they aren't even normally allergic to dust/pollen/perfume, but are just so sensitive already from being ill that the additional irritant is pushing the need to sneeze over the edge
