Hi, I’m Lee!

I’m Sparklee_Gem over on Ao3 ✨

I’ve been involved in different fandoms over the years, but I only just started posting fics early last year, so I’m super excited to continue to share my works and connect with other authors!

I’ll be uploading updates on any new fics I’m working on or posted. Maybe some sneak peeks from time to time. #sparklee fics and #sparklee wip is how you can find them.

I also draw occasionally, and usually more than I write haha, so I’ll also reblog any art I post onto here, and tag it #my art on this blog.

I’m currently in the ygo fandom (specifically DM) and I’ve been here for almost three years now,, but I don’t see myself leaving anytime soon.

I’m still figuring out how to be an active author, and organizing everything through social media, so please be patient with me, but I’m very excited to share more with y’all! 🙏🏼✨

i’ve been trying to assess/be more cognizant of racism in the yugioh fandom lately and i have to say. there is…a lot going on here.

like a lot of it is supported by canon just enough to give people the benefit of the doubt but i’m starting to think i was just giving people WAY too much credit for being aware of the biases of canon when most people really…don’t think about that. even though it’s very obviously present. but maybe people just don’t give much thought to their own biases, either.

#I had to warn a friend about Bobasa going into the millennium world arc because man #I would also say ygo is obvs an older work but you unfortunately can’t ignore the whole #The Ancient Egyptians Were Magical And Had Supernatural Powers type of orientalism that still exists today #lots of people have already done talks at extensive lengths about the inaccuracies both with the time period and the clothing and just #overall details aren’t always 100% even when taken directly from common lore #obviously it’s a fictional series and there are things made up to create a story about magic and other worlds #but when this is people’s ONLY interaction and impression of Egypt that’s when it’s like. hm #thinking about the whole [ancient pyramids was aliens] shit with duel monsters and crying #I def see the whitewashing more within Asian communities unfortunately #like I had the (dis)pleasure of seeing someone draw Atem with dark skin only to reveal it was actually a tan when his cuffs or tunic moved #and I do see the weird like [exotic seductress] applied to Atem a lot #idk there’s probs a lot of examples I could find but I do think like to agree with the original post #the canon work is def not without flaws #it’s not even only in millennium world #Yugi calls a guy a [weird Egyptian!] and overall the fact we just gloss over the stealing of anicnet artifacts with Yugi because no no #it’s actually good to steal this cuz he was destined with it!#but I also think a lot of people do have. a lot of ignorance or don’t think about certain things always in the back of their mind #I’m always the person to say that I don’t think fictional tastes or what someone writes fully reflects the way they are as a person #but you can tell when something is written from biases or stereotypes etc etc #and yeah it does feel :/ when you see it

The amount of AI ygo art I see on my feed is genuinely exhausting

#I feel bad cuz I see moots/oomfs reblog or like it and I can tell they just didn’t know but it’s also like #I feel like there’s just a vibe to it that immediately sets off red flags so I’m always instantly suspicious #good tip is to go through their blog because almost immediately you’ll be able to see their style is inconsistent #and or AI mistakes in their other works that weren’t present in their current ones #just sucks we even have to deal with this #they don’t even tag their shit as AI like cmon man

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!

i wrote this post because male characters crying in smuts is my fetish and i want to see more of it but im very glad that writers are agreeing with this, and i still mean this post wholeheartedly. anything can be done in the realm of writing so long as you determine the means that will make it happen 🫵

i'm breaking the author's silence to address these tags directly, because i've seen similar responses a few times. your context is part of you. you like your favorite band because you found them somehow. you speak the languages you speak because somebody else taught you. you feel the way you feel because you have memories and experiences. shaving off pieces of yourself will not reveal a truth at the center, and will only make you feel less like a person worth being. you will never shed your context or influences, anymore than you will ever become younger or undrink a glass of water. but you are free to create as much additional context as you like. build yourself outward instead of digging for yourself at the center. trying 100 new things will give you 100 more data points on what you like, don't like, think, believe, feel. it might begin to reveal an image of yourself that you can recognize, respect, and love. your life is not an object to be kept clean, it is an ongoing action that you get to control. also that's starlight glimmer not rarity.
