Natsume yuujinchou is so very special to me. It was recommended to me at a time in my life where living felt painful. I genuinely wanted to die and I was letting my eating disorder take over.

Each episode of Natsume gives me a warm, comforting feeling and it gave me hope at a time when I had none. Even the sad episodes give me hope, the message that life is worth living even if it is painful is portrayed throughout the show and it was something I desperately needed to be shown at that time. I have gone from the mindset of not caring if I die to thinking, maybe I’ll give living a chance. It’s only a small shift in thinking but it has opened my world up so much and allowed me to let hope and happiness back into my life. Living can still be painful and hard, but there is so much worth living for if you just keep going.

Natsume taught me to be a kinder and more considerate person. It taught me that even if it is difficult communicating with others that does not mean I have to face everything alone. There are good and kind people in the world and when they come into your life it makes all the hardwork worth it.

Every episode of the anime and every chapter of the manga leave me feeling hopeful. It’s a gentle reminder to never give up and I am so thankful for Midorikawa Yuki for creating this beautiful story.

Shimanami Tasogare

It is an amazing manga with an almost entirely LGBT+ cast and talks a lot about gender identity, sexuality and troubles faced by those within the LGBT+ community (especially for younger members). Also it is fucking BEAUTIFUL.

Kamatani Yuuki’s use of imagery and visual metaphors never fails to take my breath away.

Please just read the damn manga.
