i should be asleep so i’ll probably get more into this in the morning but i do truly feel like kars and esidisi are equal in the hierarchy, at least in any way that rlly matters . yes kars is technically the leader, but the masks and the quest for the stone were his ideas. i’m certain he has the last word on everything, but it really does appear that esidisi is given just the same amount of respect imo. nothing works if either one of them is removed from the equation. so at least the way i see it, yes kars is In Charge but i doubt there’s ever been any battles about authority between the two of them, kars values esidisi’s opinions and leadership the same as he does his own etc. i think it’s partially due to them having raised wamuu + santana, too. idk it would’ve be nice to see more of them planning and going about things just to know how that goes we rlly don’t get much

tldr; kars is the de facto Leader for having created the masks, but he’s more than a little “don’t ask me ask your other dad esidisi” about it

Oh, and I only now realized this while checking the original version... When Kars is about to kill Joseph and tells him to "fall to the endless bottom of the valley" (無限の谷底へ落ちろ), that is in fact a throwback to that time they both fell into the valley in Switzerland. Everyone was using 谷底 at the time too. Ohhh he is SO salty.

It makes perfect sense why Joseph subconsciously shields himself with the Aja, too. Of course he would instinctively do that when that's what saved him the last time Kars was yapping about sending him to the bottom of the valley!

Two more fun Karchaisms:

Casually uses the word zaprawdę (verily/truly), which no one currently alive uses except when quoting the Bible, where it's in Jesus's famous Zaprawdę powiadam wam ("Verily I say unto you").

Also uses sczeźnij ("perish"/"wither") when dramatically telling Joseph to "Melt and perish in the abyss of oblivion!!!". It's also very old and I mostly associate it with medieval/fantasy literature like The Witcher.

Other characters like Speedwagon will call a zombie just a zombie in katakana, but flashback Kars instead uses the word 屍生人 (furigana'd as "zombie", the kanji meaning something like "a living dead"). It's one of those fun words where googling it only gives you Jojo-related results, and I suspect that the obtuse kanji 屍 was used to give it an old vibe.

It was accordingly translated not as the loanword zombie, but as an elegant older-sounding ożywieniec ("undead", "revenant", literally "someone alive again"). Really neat!

my problem is if i enjoy something enough i will be nitpicking. i Will have things to say about where and how it failed. out of nothing but love straight from my heart. unfortunately this often makes me indistinguishable from a hater who has never experienced joy or kindness. such is the amateur critic's burden.

I think this is the same issue as with the infamous "I will PROBABLY always remember you"; I understand what both translators were trying to do--convey that the character is coming to a new conclusion, admitting it in that very moment--but it does undermine the weight of the statement a bit and becomes very funny in isolation.

I KNOW this is a Polish onomatopoeia for the wind or flying or something, and I KNOW it ends with an h and not k, but my brain still won't stop misreading it for a split second every time I look at this page
