I think the finale could be interpreted in many different ways, and im still coming to a conclusion myself, honestly ! At the beginning we see the phrase ”ありえた仮定” which is translated to "what could have been". This along with the ending bit where KAngel states that "this ending is just one of countless possibilities" paints the whole episode as a hypothetical. I think this is a sort of callback to the nso game and how it has many endings and different paths to take. In the post-credits, KAngel breaks the fourth wall and gives a sort of motivational yet depressing monologue about how happiness only exists in our minds. I thought it was really cute how she reaches out at the end, and the ending screen is such an awesome homage to the game-! I saw some people complaining about the anime straying too far from the game and about Karamazov being added, but I honestly think it was a great choice. Without Karamazov the anime would be quite boring, no? I think those people were expecting the whole season to be like episode 12, but that would get repetitive and just be hard to watch imo. Like a whole 13 episodes of Ame being depressed and stuff? There needs to be more to it, and I'm glad there is. There were also lots of references to the game in the soundtrack and visuals, so it's not like they just disregarded the game.
Sorry got a little off topic there~ (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;) back to episode 13! I'm honestly sort of confused about what happened with KAngel .. maybe I missed something, but I'm not too sure what the deal with the person at the end/beginning is. Were they featured in the show before and I just didn't notice? Or is it more metaphorical and they act as a stand-in for KAngel fans? The conclusions for the other characters were really cute though, I love Lollipop being a fashion designer! Nechika going MIA was really funny and totally suits her, although I don't know why she would do so when Karamazov was still together. They broke up because she left, not the other way around. So why exactly did she just disappear? beats me~ Her showing up at Kache's proposal was quite funny, I loved Michika's reaction loll! Also so happy Kache gets a good ending, she deserves the world~! Not as excited about her lame ex getting a good ending... but whatever lolz.. Anyways, as I said earlier, it's implied that this whole episode is a hypothetical scenario and only one option for what could happen to them in the future. It begs the question: what really did happen? Did something completely different happen? Is this how their story really ends, and KAngel is just reminding us that it could have gone different? Or maybe it's super meta they don't get an actual ending because y'know.. they aren't real.. maybe KAngel is like Monika and knows they aren't real. That would explain why she breaks the fourth wall ? Sort of a crazy theory.. not sure if I'm onto something or not lol... I plan to rewatch all the episodes soon now that I've seen the whole thing, so hopefully I can pick up on more details and come to a more solidified conclusion.
The anime is quite artsy and leaves a lot up to interpretation. It's not really something you can just sit back and let the plot pass by, you really have to focus and follow along while coming to your own conclusions. A lot of it is metaphorical, and it can sometimes be hard to tell the difference between what's really happening and what is imaginative, although I don't mind this at all! I think people who complain about it being too confusing or hard to follow need to be a bit more confident in making assumptions and piecing things together yourself. It's not handed out to you on a silver platter, you have to decipher some parts for sure.
The visuals in the show are absolutely stunning. The stop motion / live action sequence where the KAngel plush comes out of the monitor and starts messing around on the viewer's computer is so cute and well done, serious kudos to the animators here! There are also parts where the animation style completely changes-- there's a long sequence in episode 10 like this-! I love how experimental the art style is, it's truly visually stunning. The 3d models also blend so well with the 2d.. I'm just in awe honestly~~
All in all, I really enjoyed watching it! Can't wait to binge it all over again haha-~ ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ
honestly a little disappointed with kache’s makeover redesign,, her split hair was so cool ~~ also not a fan of the highwaited skirt getup .. but she still looks great !! i’m just personally not a big fan (ー ー;)
michika is so stunning btw honestly no notes .. i also thought her breakdown was interesting to see, and learning more about her character was great-! i’m glad we got to expand more on karamazov and their backstories . i love kache and michika’s interactions and the dynamic they have is quite unique and also realistic to real life. michika acted on her desires despite the risks and was rewarded with the payoff of fame and success. kache didnt act on her desires and took a more traditional path in life, leading to a more normal lifestyle- even if she would have preferred what michika got. i love how they stayed in contact and are still close friends , despite living in separate worlds. michika involving kache with karamazov is so sweet, it shows that she isn’t letting her status get in the way of their relationship. and the whole makeover episode with kache was so cute,, i loved seeing her included and spoiled.. as she deserves!!!1!
can’t wait for the final episode to drop today!! i hope ame makes it through 😭😭
