I feel like it couldve been better for sure but I had to to the whole thing in like 4-5hrs because I forgot what day it was 😔 considering I've never really done an underwater scene and I was rushing i think its not half bad. The fish gave me many regrets (especially when u realized how much time I wasted on the ones that are hidden behind the character oups)
Okay so the color choice here with the greyscale+red is actually relevant beyond pretty points, as its drawn from the POV of 5O3 (robot guy). His vision is really weird in a way that cant really be captured in a 2D still image but I do what I can. He cant see colors as humans do, but he does have a modified sort of awareness toward certain things, which is emphasized in red here.
Another pretty obvious color choice is having 5O3 be fully white (while his normal pallete is black/green) and Nathan fully black. This is because of the way he connects to energy/technology around him. As he is full of potent energy, he shines like a beacon. Most humans have tech implanted in their heads, which causes their brains to shine like stars, and their nervous system to be more apparent. Nathan doesnt have that tech, however, which leaves him as a glaring blank space, where 5O3 can tell something is meant to be, but its harder to pinpoint.
Also, humans tend to blur together when in groups, which is why they appear rather blobby here. Very offputting and foreign, as he sees them.
In frame 3 and 4 however, we see that Nathan isnt a blank space anymore, and his energy can be seen. This is due to 5O3 gaining more skill in spotting him as time goes on, but also that hes not near other people, so nothing is outshining him. In frame 4, however, 5O3s distorted view fades, revealing his actual appearance as we'd see it. This is when the POV shifts, and now we're looking from nathans eyes.
In the next frame we see 5O3 is no longer shining white, and is instead a shadow on the otherwise bright surroundings. This mixes especially with the lyrics, highlighting 5O3 as a wild and unknown thing. Something that doesnt belong in this world, existing like a tear in reality.
Yet still, hes full of stars, of pinpricks of light and beauty. And due to the composition here, he seems larger than life, really towering over Nathan (which he does do normally ig. Dude is literally 7ft tall). While hes mostly a blocky silhouette, his wings stand out as theyre spread, highlighting his more inhuman features. Hes mimicking a human shape, after all, but hes really not one.
And, most notable for Nathan, is the knowledge that 5O3s wings are his biggest weapon (feather blades. This man dont fly but he will skewer a mf)
And finally, the last frame, the look the most similar. Rather than being black and white, entirely opposite, theyre both shadowed silhouettes. At their base form. And yet, beyond the surface, 5O3 is still incredibly fundamentally different. Do they look the same in shape? Sure. But on the inside, past their faces and their minds, 5O3 remains unknown and opposite.
Also important lyrics choice here, considering the last frame referenced how alien he is, this one is an acceptance of sorts. 'To the wilder, you' meaning something like 'return to where you belong'. Because after all!!! That is what 5O3 has always wanted!!
