Me then, naive and full of hope: “Wow he has such concern for his best friend!”
Me now, older and wiser and with my heart ripped to shred: “Oh you are just stewing in your guilt aren’t you.”
has it been long enough? can i complain about certain story beats within st3 now? good
simon and ratha v’s ‘bond’ is horrible. not once do we get an instance of ratha v ‘protecting’ simon like he supposedly does from simon’s “he was always there protecting me” line, but it doesn’t end there. nooo, they needed more sympathy points for simon, so they made ratha v talk. it’s just. ugh. how did wespend the entirety of the last game learning that monsters are much more in tune with emotions rather than being able to actually speak, and then you make ratha v actually speak in simon’s dream, even if telepathically. why’d they even give ratha v that voice
i get it, there wasn’t much room to show the bond between simon and ratha v.. but also i don’t get it. guardian ratha only appears like twice in stories 2, yet literally sacrifices his life to save us. razewing ratha, our main monstie and very much treated as a scary uncontrollable force of nature, purposefully lets go on the airship to protect his rider, and then reins that power in to save us from falling to our deaths
ratha v does a grand total of none of that. he could have struggled against the bind when clarissa ordered him to attack simon, but he doesn’t. he could have had an instance at any point during the aenshin struggle made an active attempt to protect simon without us jumping in, hut he doesn’t
it’s just forced. so so forced
Reflections of Ruin
History tends to repeat itself and Princess Wisteria reflects on her ancestor for 200 years ago, a Rathalos rider as well. It’s weird to share a name and face with someone that pre-dates you, as well as having a descendent of her ancestor’s loyal Pukei Pukei. She can only hope her life will be quieter than the raging adventures of her ancestor.
Wisteria is a descendant of my MHS2 character of the same name but is NOT a reincarnation. Watch as the next time skip game has her own descendants in it also named Wisteria. I like the aesthetic.

So is Arken paralyzed or just temporarily wheelchair bound? Because that’d be a thematic choice that scratches an itch in my lizard brain. I’ve said it before: where Amara is a hare, Arken is a tortoise. He battens down to prepare for the worst and retreats into himself when faced with the turmoil of Amara leaving, but won’t take an offensive strategy in defending Azuria from Aenshin and the Encroachment. He’s right to be careful and distrustful of Vermeil’s methods considering they are actively repeating the transgressions from 200 years ago. Amara made an active choice to defy the Covenant, but in doing it alone (or with the help of a chronically ill 10-year-old, but that’s not that much better) she’s horribly injured and loses her memories. Arken chooses to remain still and where that is the right call in some places, his passiveness becomes stagnation. It leads to his child— his only child —to pick up the pieces and when he finally takes action, he’s severely hurt. (Honestly it’s a miracle he didn’t die, that was like a 100 ft fall with force, so being paralyzed was the least of his worries.) We never see Arken on his feet after that, so I think it’s left purposely ambiguous. But whether permanent or not, there is still that theme: there’s stagnation in body and consumption by the very curse he tried to avoid, but he in spirit now wants to take an active role in saving the kingdom with his child. He faced that threat head on to protect his only child, and though he must live with the physical consequences, he can now be an positive force in the life of the heir and restore their relationship.
(But he still misses his wife. He misses her a lot. Hopefully she’ll be back.)
Gayasses ❤️ Diego (Purple character on the right) belongs to my cousin @vaninakan!
Just pile on the crushing responsibility. Why don’t you. What’s one more burden to bear. This is fine.
The way he just droops will never not hurt me.
