[ MERCY&& ] —- Trevor sighed, glancing back to the slumbering man before agreeing quietly. “Alright, alright. If he does turn.. I’ll take care of it.” She really did know how to sweet talk her way in and out of things. Maybe it was just her ways as a Speaker, or just her womanly charms–hell.. it certainly got him in bed, that’s for sure. “We’ll be at the foot of the mountain soon. There should be a village with an inn. We’ll stop there to resupply and let this… stranger.. rest.” She really could be a bleeding heart.
Hector felt the ring tighten on his finger with each mile put between him and the castle. However the two made their way to Styria, it was one wild journey. At this rate, Trevor wasn’t sure that they would come out of this entirely unscathed.
Her head lifted, and she gently pulled him down. Her lips pressed to his cheek, and Sypha offered him a tired smile,
“Thank you,” she murmured, settling back to the seat and just leaning against him. Sypha kept periodically glancing over her shoulder to the sleeping man, feeling the occasional pulse of magic originating from the ring. Something was foul, and evil about it, and the fact that he had two fang-marks on his neck made her curious. Her fingers moved against Trevor’s bicep as she mulled over the marks, wondering what vampire was around that could enthrall someone like that, and wielded such power. It had to be some sort of black magic, blacker than any Sypha had ever seen.
Her lips pouted, somewhat.
If she, a Speaker magician could move Dracula’s entire castle (not talking about where she dropped it, it’s not broken Trevor), then surely she could unravel the mysteries of that ring. Given enough time, at least.
To Trevor, she looked at him again,
“Do we .. want to eventually make our way back to Alucard’s home..? It may do us good to see him again.”
omercifulone:
[ MERCY&& ] —- Trevor could only tighten his grip on the horses reigns as he heard her speak of the marks. “So he is cattle. He’ll turn, Sypha.” The Belmont warned. “Frightened or not, we might have another bloodsucker on our hands. Do you really want to deal with that?” The man turned his head lightly to check on their new slumbering ‘friend’ only to narrow his eyes.
Hector slept soundly, moving as the wagon moved with each bump in the snowy road. This was.. going to be a rather interesting journey for sure. “He won’t be like Alucard, Sypha. I highly doubt that a stranger you rescued from the frozen fucking landscape would yield any kindness to someone he’s afraid of.”
Her heart broke again for the fevered man in the back,
“If he hasn’t already, do you really think he will? Trevor, please.. we can’t be.. we can’t let the world make us cold.” Sypha’s head shook as she gestured to the landscape he spoke of, “And you didn’t see his eyes - they were so afraid I can’t just not help him. I’m a Speaker.. and you’re a Belmont. We help people.. we don’t leave someone to die in the snow.” her arms encircled his right one and the Speaker pressed her face to his arm.
The trauma they’d both witnessed in that.. awful village, it threatened to consume what goodness was left in their hearts. But she had to remember her grandfather, her people - the teachings taught to her since she was a child. To help people. What was the difference between the people of Gresit, and this poor man who didn’t have long to live, probably.
Her grip tightened just a bit,
“If .. if he turns, then we’ll kill him but please, Trevor..” Sypha trembled, just a bit, “please don’t force me to let him die.. I’d never forgive myself if I could help him and didn’t, and neither would you..”
omercifulone:
[ MERCY&& ] —- Hector laid back, still exhausted from his escape. He gave the Speaker no answer to her questions, but did as she instructed. His neck was bruised, clearly overused with more than just a feeding or two.. and yet, it seemed as though whomever fed on him hadn’t touched him in a while. Within moments, he fell into a deep slumber.
The former Forgemaster breathed shallowly, the cold sending a chill up his spine. Trevor kept the wagon moving, gesturing to Sypha to join him. Once she was within earshot, he began to question her.
“Sypha. I don’t like this. We don’t know who this man is or if he is a threat or not.” Taking a slight glance back, he sneered lightly. “He recognized the cloak.. who is to say that he isn’t one of Dracula’s stray cattle?”
Gently she tucked the blankets around the man’s chin before looking to Trevor. Oh she knew that look. She moved around their new sleeping friend and settled against the Belmont, leaning against him somewhat as he spoke. Her brows raised,
“In his defense, Trevor, not many people can’t not recognize the cape. It screams ‘broody lord of darkness.’” her hand rested on his as she looked up at him, “Besides, you can’t just leave a man to die in the snow, what sort of death is that? Nobody deserves that level of--” she could feel the look he was giving her even as she looked at him, “ .. okay some do, but not him. He’s so frightened, Trevor.” Sypha’s head shook as it returned to laying against his bicep.
A few more moments passed,
“There.. are vampire marks on his neck--”
omercifulone:
[ MERCY&& ] —- Hector said nothing, placing his throbbing hand in hers as if commanded like a dog. His head hung low, his heart aching. So these were the ones…. He gulped down his pride, knowing there was no place for it there. They would likely strike him down just as easily seeing as his condition was growing worse.
“Please..” He muttered weakly. “Please.. do not remove it.. I’ll die.” If anyone but HER tried to remove it.. he would die in agony. He was lucky he managed to get away without dying in the first place. She’ll come after me soon.. I know it. He curled to himself tighter, tempted to pull his hand away–only to punish himself by biting down on his lower lip for thinking of pulling away without permission. His free hand went to the bloodstained side of his neck, scratching idly.
Die?
Why would he die. What power did this ring hold that if removed, it would kill him. Her fingertips gently rested near it, but not against it, fearing agitating the magic within it. Her head shook, and Sypha released his hand. That was a question for another day. Sure she’d only just awoken, but they had a long trip to the base of the mountain and further still to Alucard’s Castle. So the magician settled and gestured,
"Please lay down, you need your rest. Is there any way I can stop the pain without removing the ring? Can I perhaps numb it?” magic that she couldn’t study made her feel stupid, and this was no different. Her eyes focused on his, and then on the blood-stained side of his neck, where they narrowed. Gently she scooched forward, and slowly leaned in to peer at it.
Two holes, eyeteeth-width apart. Fangs.
Vampires.
Was he a thrall? An escaped slave? Who was he?
omercifulone:
[ MERCY&& ] —- He was shaking, wobbling with the movements of the wagon as he still felt rather out of it. Hector was skeptical, but he reached out carefully as he was given permission to drink. Little by little, he drank what he could before slowly handing it back. The ring pulsed, the pain making him practically useless. He hissed, holding his wrist in agony.
Why were they helping him? Could it be a trick? Whoever they were.. he became concerned until he spotted a familiar cape. He tried to speak up until the figure turned to see the commotion behind him. It isn’t him.. It isn’t.. He felt sick to his stomach. Dracula was gone.. it was true. With what strength he could muster, he spoke.
“That.. cape.. where did you..?”
Trevor raised his brow before offering his trademark Disapproving Grimace, and looked forward again,
“Killed a vampire for it.” Sypha would rather he have not been so proud of it, but that was Treffy for you. She let their new companion drink as much as he wished before the skin was handed back, and when she noticed his hand, her own extended again. If allowed, soft fingers would rest against his wrist to try and look at it.
Her head tilted,
“May I see this..? I may be able to help this, too.” best to steer his attention away from the cape, lest more questions raise more red flags. Though she wondered why he even cared about the cape to begin with..
omercifulone:
[ MERCY&& ] —- He shuddered as he was carried to safety, the ring tightening around his finger as he was placed in the back of the wagon. Hector felt pain surge through him. After running like hell from that accursed palace, he felt nausea take place in his stomach. He could swear Lenore was closing in on him.
He groaned in his slumber, his sickness becoming worse as time went on. The man could hear that woman’s hideous laughter in his mind. You won’t escape, Hector.. you.. won’t.. ESCAPE.
He shot awake, panic set in as he lay weakly on the young woman’s bed. He could feel the sweat on his body freeze to the temperature to the air. Moving.. was he moving? Blurred vision wandered to the top of the wagon, then to the woman. Was she one of them? Was she there to use him, too? He tried to move away, terror building. I’m afraid..! I’m afraid!!
FEAR RAN RAMPANT through his very being and her heart broke for him. Her hands came up, and Sypha sat back away from him,
“Easy.. easy!” she called gently, to get his attention, “We’re not going to hurt you. You’re safe here, but you need to let me help. It is all right,” she offered her hand, palm up, so he’d know she meant no harm. Her smile was warm, as gentle as it could be. It was cold, yes, but thankfully they were moving down the mountain and would, hopefully, be out of the worst of the cold in a couple of days.
Slowly she reached, with the other hand, to lift a skin of water and let him see it,
“You need to drink something, and I can help with the fever. Please..?”
@omercifulone from here
HER BROWS SHOT UP, and Sypha rushed forward,
"Oh god what happened to you," she asked nobody in particular. Her hands rested on his back, then one against his forehead. He was burning with fever, and she genuinely feared for his life at this point. Slowly she rolled him over to his back, hand on his chest as she felt for a heartbeat. Not much of one, which scared her further. Sypha leaned her head down next to him, and she could barely hear his breath from his lips.
Alive was better than nothing!
As gently as she could, but with urgency, the Speaker lifted him to his feet and hooked his arm around her shoulders, her own around his middle,
“Come on.. one foot forward.. Oh you’re so heavy,” she murmured. Making her slow way to the wagon, she lifted him as best she could and let him flomp inside it, onto her bed. Naturally this startled the wild Trevor, who proceeded to wonder just what the fuck was going on. She ignored him, healer mode activated, and went to covering the man with blankets and cleaning him up as best she could. The ring was noted, how it pulsed with something evil, and she glared at it. Trevor made a note that he was cursed and they should leave him before more trouble follows and she just glared at him.
“You’re cursed and I still put up with you.” He looked offended but shut his mouth, for now, half-pouting half-glaring at the two.
“Really? Was that a compliment?“
“In my defense, Treffy has been insufferable recently and I learned from the worst when it comes to compliments.”

“He looked so pitiful!“
“There is evil in your heart.“
“You might want to take a bath.”
“You followed me. How dare you!“
“Are you saying I look like a toad?“
“Destinies are troublesome things.“
“I couldn’t watch everyone’s grief…”
“I believe in the world you will build.“
“The only rule is… there are no rules.“
“You look very handsome… the perfect bait.“
“You’re learning. Slowly, but you’re learning.”
“I trust in your destiny… just trust in yourself.“
“I was wrong. Coming here was a great idea.“
“I know what you did. You tried to poison me!“
“Oh, maybe something you said gave it away.“
“You need to be more in touch with the people.“
“You know, you’ve got a lot of nerve for a wimp.“
“I am so sorry for everything you’ve been through.“
“No harm will come to you, I can promise you that.”
“But believe me, I have seen the evils in this world.“
“Some choices are easy. Some stay with you forever.”
“I hope, in time, we will both find the love we deserve.“
“You should get out of here while you have the chance.“
“I know where we’re going. I just can’t tell you, that’s all.“
“I can see deep into your heart. It is cold, cold as stone.“
“She is the darkness to your light, the hatred to your love.“
“Trust me, when I am threatening you, you’ll know about it.”
“If you really want to know what I think? I think you’re mad.“
“Let’s be honest, you couldn’t kill me even if you wanted to.“
“I know. But you’re playing with things that are beyond you.“
“Well, I may be a wimp, but at least I’m not a… dollop-head.“
“I think we’ve no chance, but I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“This is what happens when you spend all day in the tavern.“
“I swore that one day I would repay you. Now is the moment.”
“You play it so well, you’ve fooled him… but you don’t fool me.“
“Well, I wouldn’t expect you to understand. You’re not a knight.”
“He believes I’ve changed. Soon he will see exactly how much.“
“One day you’ll be strong enough to take my crown, but not yet.“
“You shouldn’t have come back for me. What were you thinking?“
“You know, you couldn’t keep a secret if your life depended on it!”
“The problem is that you wish to talk, but you don’t wish to listen.”
“I don’t know, you were the only person who knew where we were.“
“Well, if it means I don’t get clobbered ‘round the head, I’m glad of it.“
“You’d do well, (name), to stay out of things that do not concern you.“
“I’ve never killed a man before. I just wanted to feel… what it was like.“
“Because I don’t understand how anyone would want to hurt their friends.“
“You are an arrogant prat, with the brain of a donkey and a face of a toad!“
“Standing here, seeing so many happy faces… it almost seems like a dream.“
“What are you planning? And don’t even think about lying, I know you too well.”
“I promise you that, in the future, I will give you the love and respect you deserve.”
“There’s no better place to measure the mood of your people than the local tavern.“
“From everyone else’s perspective, apart from yours and mine, it’s completely insane.“
“I understand. You were just trying to protect your friends. I would have done the same.“
“It’s lonely… to be more powerful than any man you know and have to live like a shadow.”
“I have fought alongside you many times. There is no other person I would rather die for.“
“Even though I was a commoner and a nobody, you were willing to lay down your life for me.”
“It was the middle of the night. I was worried. I thought you might be in some sort of trouble.”
“No, no. That’s all that I’ve done for the past year, sit. And pray that you hadn’t given up on me.“
“This is madness. She has been missing for more than a year now. When are you going to stop?“
“To see one of your own kin die is never an easy thing, but all great struggles demand sacrifice.“
“You don’t know how much I regret everything that I’ve done! I just… I hope that you can forgive me.“
“Nobility is defined by what you do, and not by who you are, and these men… are anything but.”
“This is one of those moments where I tell you something isn’t a good idea and you ignore me, isn’t it?“
“Oh, but they do concern me, because they’re my friends too, and I’ll do whatever it takes… to protect them.“
“You don’t know what it’s like to be an outsider… to be ashamed of how you were born, to have to hide who you are.”
“If I don’t know where we’re going, how do I know what to pack? Will it be hot, will it be cold, will it be wet, will it be dry?“
“You’re hopeless at a lot of things. Well, most thing, in fact. But, very occasionally, quite by accident, you say something useful.”
“There are times where you display a sort of, I don’t know what it is. I don’t want to say… it’s not wisdom, but, yes. That’s what it is.”
“Yesterday, amongst all your gibberish, you said something that, if I didn’t know you, I’d be completely fooled into thinking you were… wise.”
“In the wrong hands, this sword can do great evil. You must promise me that, once it’s task is done, you will place is where none can wield it.”
“You feel trapped? Like your whole life has been planned out for you, and you’ve got no control over anything, and sometimes you don’t even know if what destiny has decided is really the best thing at all?”
bbc merlin : season 4 ... sentence starters
“Bad news. He’s still alive.”
“Sometimes you puzzle me.“
“You’re meant to be… dying.“
“You stink worse than your food!”
“You don’t ever do as you’re told.“
“Really? Was that a compliment?“
“You ever heard of the word ‘sorry’?”
“Is this really as fast as you can walk?“
“You can’t blame me for my father’s sins.“
“That is when the worms are most active.“
“His heart his broken and his spirit is gone.“
“My magic is useless against them. I’ve tried.“
“In my grief, I let you infect me with your hate.“
“That one’s ancient. Probably wouldn’t hurt a fly.“
“You’re not going to die. Don’t be such a coward.”
“You know, you’re a brave man… between battles.”
“You don’t know how many times I’ve saved your life.“
“Hm. I would give up my own kingdom to be so loved.“
“Fine. If it means we get there quicker, I will carry you.“
“Does anything strike you as odd about these bodies?“
“All the things I’ve faced… I never worried about dying.“
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you cry before, not like that.“
“Choose your next words carefully. They may be your last.“
“You’re very quiet. You didn’t say a word on the way home.“
“What the hell are you doing creeping around in the woods?“
“You can’t risk exposing yourself like this. It’s too dangerous.“
“What is wrong with you? Why can you never just let me be?“
“Trust me. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s keeping secrets.“
“Well, don’t think too hard. I wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself.“
“Me? You seemed to be doing a pretty good job of that yourself.“
“I never once questioned their loyalty. I do wonder if I deserve it.“
“This man is a shadow of his former self. A shadow with ill intent.“
“Ha. If I ever become king, I’m gonna have you made court jester.“
“One day, you will understand just how much they’ve done for you.”
“I take it you didn’t come all this way just to smash my favorite pot.“
“That’s if you hadn’t been such an arrogant, pompous, dollop head.“
“Great. How long have I got? How long before this thing wakes up?“
“You’re consumed by bitterness. It spreads within you like a disease.”
“It’s not my life that’s pitiable. It’s yours. You’ve waste it… for nothing.“
“I always thought if things had been different, we’d’ve been good friends.”
“I do feel that dancing is best performed in youth and appreciated in age.“
“So, if you haven’t come all this way to kill me, why have you come here?”
“Yes, I sought revenge, but that does not mean it was the right thing to do.“
“Well, if you did want to hurt a fly, or even a human, what would YOU use?“
“All I know for sure is that I’ve lost both my parents to magic. It is… pure evil.“
“And when it came for me, I felt this emptiness. I couldn’t breathe. I’m scared.“
“I want you to bring me peace. You must right the wrong that was done to me.“
“You mean to tell me that you’ve been wandering around in the woods all night?“
“Questions, so many questions! For once in your life, will you just do as you’re told?”
“Mmm. The chicken is good. It’s a nice broth… What do you know about necromancy?”
“All right. It’s true. I came back ‘cause you’re the only friend I have and I couldn’t bear to lose you.“
“But this is your chance… your chance to escape your meaningless life, your worthless existence.”
“You’re wrong. Don’t think I don’t understand loyalty just because I’ve got no one left to be loyal to.“
“That’s the way these things work, I’m afraid. You get the glory when you’re not around to appreciate it.“
“I cared about these people. I… I don’t understand. What have I done wrong? Why do they hate me?“
“I appreciate that. In your very confused way you’re only trying to help, but, please… don’t do it again.“
“You’ve always shown mercy in battle. You’ve never sought to humiliate your enemy in this way. This isn’t like you.“
“Or we could just do it now — whatever it is that we’re doing — in the dark, when it’s incredibly scary and dangerous.“
“Well, I think we’re safe, for now, but we need to find you some kind of disguise. You’re too conspicuous in those clothes.“
To commemorate my muse for Sypha being rekindled:
A reminder that Godbrand likes boats, because he’s a fucking Viking.
You may carry on.
Totally didn’t disapoof for months. T o t a l l y.

Sypha made her way regally into the castle, and towards the study he now usually occupied. And just as wordlessly did she slink into the study, coming up next to her friend and wrap her arms around his neck, sighing as she set her chin on his shoulder. The journey had been long, and a struggle, and she was so happy to be back at the Castle where nothing was crazy and Alucard was here. Idly her fingers played in his hair, “Humans are monsters,” she murmured..
@spcaker·
She drapes her arms about his shoulders as though they are a victory garland. There’s a triumph in her affection, and to have won a friend who cherishes him as dearly as he’d ever dreamed he could be makes him feel like an ancient laureate for all the joy it brings him.
There’s a lingering caution that prevents his expression from softening, but his voice is as affectionate as it can only be when it comes to Sypha. “But you’re not,” he points out quietly, his hands touching with a careful affection to her lithe hands that can easily ravage and rage and choose instead to be soft with him. “You’re not.”
“I should be,” she murmured, finding a rare warmth in his touch. A sigh as she hid her lips behind his shoulder, eyes closing as she just.. stood there, half-cuddling him. Trevor was off on his own, processing all they’d seen at Lindenfeld, and she had retreated to Alucard. In her defense, Trevor had his way of dealing with something traumatic, and she had hers... which was to usually make her way straight to the son of Dracula and cling to him like a cat.
The fingers of her other hand gently gripped at his shirt,
“I knew humans were terrible,” she mused, breath warm against the back of his shoulder and through his shirt to his skin, “but what I saw there... it made me so sick,”

Today was very, very odd. There Soma had been, completely minding his own business while hiking through the spring-thawed Tâmpa mountain outside of Brașov. He hadn’t expected his parents to call him back for a home visit, but with what had been going on lately, he guessed he shouldn’t be surprised.
What did surprise him, however, was the sight of a strange person covered in dirt and mud. They were wearing robes, too. Soma furrowed his eyebrows and crossed his arms, a bit of worry eclipsing his surprise.
“Hey, are you all right? Did you get lost? Do you need help?”
Ugh. Apparently there was still some latent magic left over after the infinite corridor debacle. It had, somehow, opened a portal on her and Trevor’s way back to the Castle, and had sucked them both in. Pain assaulted her as she tried to stand up, and she looked at her arm, twisted at an unnatural angle. The Speaker groaned and clutched the arm close before a voice called to her.
Blue eyes shot up to look at the owner of the voice, and she was met with a man of pale hair and very strange clothing. While he offered help, Sypha felt something.. off, about him. As if familiar, yet she was positive she had never lain eyes on the man before. Still, it was best to gauge the situation step by very careful step, and if he knew the area then he was her only lead to the major question in her mind; where was she.
“No, and yes and maybe,” she said, trying to smile through the throbbing pain in her arm, “I seem to be .. very lost.” Slowly the Speaker pushed herself to stand with her good hand and looked at him, still clutching her broken arm to her body to keep from jostling it too much.
