Nick sat by the entrance to the settlement. His anger had subsided, but…there was an emotion he couldn’t name welling up in his chest painfully.
Sole came up next to him taking a seat. “Hey…….so…….you know he loves you and the kid to death.,,;he’s just afraid…..of losing you and being alone again.”
The synth stared at Sole.
“Look, no disrespect, but if John wants to talk this out-he can.”

Nick was watching from a distance. He wasn’t exactly the best with weaponry, but maybe later he’d show the child how to hack terminals. Maybe.
Toby shot and Hancock yelps as it ricochets off the barrel and nails right through a wooden wall of soles workshop as a loud screech comes from it. “Ummmmmmm whoops….”
Nick rushed over.
“Hey Toby, why don’t I teach you how to hack terminals? Sound fun?”
He smiled over at John and mouthed ‘Do damage control!’ as he led the child away.
John watches them leave as he hold the gun just as some comes limping out sees him with the gun and attacks him. “You hit me in the ass!!!!!!” John run. “Ahhhhh!!! Nick!!!!! Ow! Sole stop! Ow! Sorry!!!” Toby watches John and sole run in circles before turning to his synth toaster dad. “I wanna be a detective just like you.”
Nick Chuckled stepping in and picking John up shielding him. “Easy sole…it was an accident. How many times have you shot me in the ass trying to take out a mirelurk?” He pat Toby on the head. “If you don’t want to end up like you’re patriot pal, it’s probably a safer career option.”
Sole rubs his ass. “Yeah yeah ok…still… Ow…. Umm hey…. So…. You know how…. I found Shaun?…… I… I need to go back….”
John just stares at him. “Back to the institute?!”
Nick stared at Sole. “What? That’s dangerous!”
“I have to ok! I need to see Shaun…… Or… The synth him…. I just…. Have to…. “Sighs John looks to nick and scratches the back of his neck.
“Need back up?” Nick asked slowly putting John down.
“….. Yeah… Actually yeah. I’d like it if you guys came along….if you don’t mind leaving the kiddo for a little bit.”
John grins putting a arm around nicks waist rubbing his hip lightly. “No problem… Mccready loves the kid. Hell mini ghoul sit for a bit.”
Nick looked at John incredulously.
“You’re really willing to leave him for days at a time?”
John looks to him then turns to Toby who was getting locked to death by dogmeat. “Well…. No.. Not really… But this is the institute…. Not letting you go there… Without me. Gotta make sure the bastards don’t mess with you.”
Nick half nodded.
“Yeah, I guess…”
Sole looked between them. “Nicks right John….. The kid needs one of you here…. You can’t just get up and leave when ever….” John looks at him then nick and sighs. “Fine fine. I’ll stay here with the kid!” Grumbles arms crossed pissed.
Nick crossed his own arms across his chest. His eyes grew a little colder. “Toby, go inside. Now. Please.”
He stared at John and started to open his mouth. Thinking better of it, he began walking toward the settlement’s exit. He didn’t want to talk right now. He turned to Sole.
“Take Hancock with you.”
Some blinks and looks at him. “Where are you going? Nick? Hey….. You know he’s just protective of you… I mean…. The institute doesn’t have the best track records with synths…..he just doesn’t want to lose you. Don’t walk away mad….. Trust me on that…”
John was looking at them his posture and expression had changed at how cold nicks voice got.
Nick shrugged still walking away. He didn’t want to say something he’d regret later.
John flinched and rushes to him grabbing onto him from behind. “Nick…. Don’t… Don’t go… Please.. I… I didn’t mean for it to sound like that… I’ll stay… I … I just don’t want to lose you nick…”
The synth pried the ghoul’s fingers off of him.

I think I’ve fallen hard into Mecto Amore with a certain synth detective. I’m gonna go to some sort of hell but I don’t care, I wanna smooch that detective! >.>; I started out attempting to draw Nick Valentine based on a screenshot I took, but than I began doodling a silly cartoony Nick and it just kept going from there.

Backstory: Braum left home in his late teens to join the Brotherhood. He was a promising recruit of the Brotherhood of Steel and served during many important missions. He was an acquaintance of Danse’s, but had been trying to develop a friendship. During a routine mission, he became trapped in high levels of radiation. He didn’t die from it, but he was turned ghoul. He knew he couldn’t go back to the Brotherhood-so he set out on his own helping others when he could. He’s a drifter at this point, but retains Brotherhood ideology.
He’s Kathryn’s brother.
