“I have some paperwork to get done so I shall leave you two for the time being.” The doctor said as he started to walk towards the door, stopping next to Dima to briefly whisper to him. “Be careful, try not to overwhelm her with information.” With that the doctor left them.
Dima moved to grab a nearby chair and move close, seating himself right beside her. “This is going to be a lot for you to take in, so ill take it slow.” He informed her quietly pausing for a minute to word his next few sentences carefully.
“I’ll start with the most important thing. Yes, you are or were hurt very badly. The good news is that you will be fine. However the bad news is that your throat was damaged severely and the doctors dont think you will be able to properly speak ever.” He explained slowly, trying to let her fully comprehend what he was saying.
As he was about to speak up an idea crossed his mind. “I will be right back.” Was all he said before jogging out of the room, coming back soon after with a clipboard in hand. Taking a seat once more he offered the clipboard full of blank paper and a pen to her. “This will have to do for now, until we can figure out something better.”
She looks up as the Doctor talks about needing to do paperwork...Thats what they do, she guesses; just stand and watch people until they have to write down what the person did. Dima grabs a chair and brings it closer to her bed, an she’s glad she can sit upright because she aches all over.
The worst part is she felt like she wanted to compare it to something but she couldn’t think of anything to compare it to!
But she listens, keeping her attention on him, trying her best not to show her reactions on her face. It made sense that she was badly injured. She looks to her hands, curls her fingers. Those work. Wiggles her toes under the blanket. Those work too.
The comment about her throat, though, makes her bring her hand to it, gingerly touching the cloth and flinching with the dull throb of pain. What’d happened to it. Did he know? Did they know?
Attempt to question him about it is foiled as Dima gets to his feet...and leaves briefly, coming back with a clipboard and pen.
...She takes both items, settling the clipboard on her lap and studying the pen, making sure its open before tapping the writing implement to the paper itself.
she draws a bed, a rough stick figure of her, and a question mark. Taps her stick figure, then the bed, followed by the question mark, and looks to him once more.
