All That Glitters || Ariel & Dug
{ ♪ } ~ Bright sunshine.
It filtered through the stain-glass windows, bright splashes of color painting the floor. It was a beautiful day. The bell-like laughter of children filled the air, but faintly, like a fading dream. The sweet, steady sound of lapping waves could be heard approaching the shore. Soft peace and quiet laid over the scene.
The queen of this fair kingdom was awoken by sunlight tickling her eyelids. Sitting up, running a stray hand through her scarlet locks, blinking golden rays from her aqua eyes. After a moment, Ariel pushed herself out of the bed and the silken covers, stretching the sleepy stiffness away and idly glancing out of the window.
The queen washed and dressed quickly, careful not to soak in the deliciously bathwater too long, as she had made a habit of doing. Donning a chiffon gown the color of forget-me-nots, the radiant woman strolled back into her bedroom, intending to retrieve and wear a certain necklace.
It was a teardrop-shaped blue jewel on a fine silver chain, very pretty in any case, but the value went beyond that. The necklace was, in fact, a gift from her father the Sea King. The power that lay within it allowed Ariel to transform from human into her original state- a mermaid- and back again. The piece of jewelry was most precious, and she kept it on her nightstand. And now it wasn’t there.
She did a double-take. Triple-take. Quadruple-take. What? Where is it? Where did it go? Ariel’s first impulse was to ask the servants, but she didn’t want to bother them. Not until she had thoroughly searched for it herself. The entire bedroom was scavenged by the little queen, to no avail. Then it was the wing of the castle. Then the entire castle. No. Nothing.
At this point she was outside, frantically searching the gardens, close to tears. It was an especially strange sight to see the Queen of Denmark hysterically searching for something outside on such a wonderful day, but Ariel didn’t care. I have to find it. Desperately, she glanced around for someone willing to help her.
His paws sunk slightly into the sand with each step the golden retriever took. His nose brushed against the ground as he walked, taking in the scents of every traveler that once stepped there. Every so often the ocean waves came in and lightly brushed against him, soaking the fur on his paws.
After walking himself on the beach for a moment Dug continued exploring this new town. His master and pack had traveled here in a frantic search for the bird. Ever since his master's new obsession with finding the bird took over his life, his master never took Dug out for walks anymore, so he had to take himself on walks more and more often. It was peaceful, but not as exciting, and somewhat lonely for the canine.
Not paying attention to where his nose had taken him, Dug found himself walking through gates, crawling under fences, and passing through narrow paths. He was not needed by his pack or master, and was constantly reminded of it. He was in no hurry to go back. His lonely walk by himself was interrupted by the sight of a distraught woman.
She appeared to be searching for something. And frantically so. Dug's ears perked and tail started wagging as he approached her. He was quite glad not to be alone anymore. The golden retriever tilted his head as he looked at her, confused as to what she could be looking for. A small red light on his collar lit up as it emitted, "Are you alright, human?"

“Quit it!” Puss commanded, pointing his sword at him.
“Good. On the count of three, one…two…three!” Puss started running on fours on the other direction.
Ears perked, Dug's eyes widened as the count began. He couldn't believe this was about to happen. When Puss started running, it didn't take long for that to process in the canine's head. He started bounding after the cat, tail wagging and tongue hanging out, filled with adrenaline. "I will catch you cat!"

→ “Wh—?!”
Talking dog. Talking dog.
Boy, had he spoken too soon. Flynn that is.
There was a long moment in between the canine’s response and Flynn’s response to that response. A squeak or two, a gurgle of sorts, had arose from his throat, lips parted, a frantic look upon the thief’s face.
“Ahhh — you’re a dog. And… and you’re talking. I — is that normal? I don’t think that’s normal. How does a collar make one speak, exactly?”
His dark brown eyes shifted from the man tied up to try to look at the collar around his neck. It always seemed normal to him. The rest of his pack had these collars. Scrunching his neck, he looked down but couldn't see the advanced collar past his nose. Dug turned back to the stranger happily though. He blankly looked at him for a moment before responding, "I do not know how it works, mailman."
The golden retriever took a moment to observe his surroundings. "Why are you tied to a chair?" If it was the squirrel mafia Dug was out of there. He could not risk another mix up with the squirrels.

Dug and Carl
Carl pushed his balloon cart along, grinning at the sounds of the zoo around him. He glanced up occasionally, to make sure they were all there, and occasionally had to press his full weight on the cart to keep it down. He enjoyed days like this, where their were low crowds and a slight cool breeze knocking his multi-colored balloons about in a pleasant collection of light and color.
He peddled his balloons happily, bending down on one knee to tie them to each child’s wrist so they wouldn’t float away and continued on his way. He was a bit shocked when he heard a noise behind him, almost letting go of his cart.
The golden retriever wandered off away from the bird's scent, following those of food and people. The thoughts of his master yelling at him were still fresh in his mind, and he had to get away. A guilty wish of finding a new master itched at him, but how could he betray his pack and master? Those deep thoughts were so easily distracted by some balloons in the distance.
Dug happily trotted over to the mysterious balls that somehow floated up in the sky, and approached the man holding them down. Why did he hold them down when they so clearly desired to be free? Smelling this mysterious man, Dug determined he was safe from the few scents he took in. Maybe even more, he definitely got a good vibe off of his smells. Like love at first sniff. Standing behind the man, Dug's tail wagged and his collar emitted, "Hi there."
This was it. A new start. A new master.
(Amnesia) The golden retriever looked at Puss who clearly did not remember him. The opportunity to take Puss as his prisoner now would certainly be easier if he could just make up a scenario, but there was a knot inside his chest that told Dug that wasn't what he really wanted. He looked over at the cat and his collar emitted simply, "You are my friend, cat."
Puss raised his brow. How on earth did he end up being friends with this dog? How he wished that he could recall his memory. Unfortunately, there was nothing.
“You?”
“But you’re a dog. I can’t be friends with a dog. That’s impossible!”
Dug watched Puss’s reaction carefully. He didn’t know if even with full memory Puss would consider him a friend, but his confused anger still hurt the canine slightly. That it was so inconceivable that they could be friends, but he still understood the contradiction of a cat and dog being friends, and with no memory Dug would likely have a similar reaction. He looked up at Puss anyways with worried hope.
"Yes I am. But we are friends, cat." He wasn’t sure what else to say to convince the cat of this wished for friendship.
Puss simply shook and scratched his head in disbelief. Noticing the dog’s expression, the ginger feline frowned.
“I am so sorry.” He sighed, “I am afraid I don’t remember you.”
A moment after processing his words, Dug perked his ears as he looked towards the feline. "That is okay, cat. We can still be friends now... If that is okay with you, cat."
