It's the summertime, which means a lot of people are going to be having trouble taking care of their pet Grinch. This is partly because the thick fur renders them vulnerable to hot temperatures, but mostly it's because Grinches are fueled by hate and ire. From November on, that's no problem; they'll be surrounded by Christmas decorations, which inspire a burning rage in their tiny, shriveled hearts. But during the warm summer months, you, as their owner, need to provide them something to be spiteful towards. And no, it's not enough to leave up a Christmas tree. They get bored with that! Show some real investment!

I make sure to take my Grinch to lots of charity drives and keep a good amount of old episodes of Sesame Street on tap in case of emergencies. Seeing spite fester in its small shriveled heart as I hand out non perishables to the homeless population lets me rest easier in the harsh summer months.

If you can't find something for your grinch to hate in the summer maybe you should get a different pet. My grinch and I actually volunteer with the parks service every year to help shut down dangerous fireworks displays in the flammable wilderness. She gets to spend June-August grumping and scheming about how to ruin the holiday fun, I get a happy pet, and my backyard doesn't get lit on fire. Win-win-win.
