Also there's a lot of "don't JUST vote!" and like obviously I'm not going to discourage people volunteering or whatever but if a lot of you did "just vote" and do nothing else that would make a big fucking difference on its own. I would be fine with that. Because voting does in fact change things. If a few more people in Maine and Iowa etc. had voted for the Democrat for Senate in 2020, we likely would have been able to abolish the filibuster and pass voting rights legislation and all those things that the Democrats can't do because their fragile Senate majority includes two conservative Dems who won't do it. If people hadn't voted for Trump in 2016 Roe v. Wade would still be safe because we wouldn't have three of its opponents on the Supreme Court. Voting does in fact matter! Again, they wouldn't be trying to take it away from you if it didn't matter!

running through the streets of new york city at 3am after a night of dancing. you are covered in sweat and your breath is on fire with alcohol but you feel invincible. you are all glitter, laughter, and bright colors in the dead of night.

fighting and falling in love over and over and over. you cannot help but come back home to this person. you don't know for sure if you like them, but you love them. you feel yourself changing, down to your bones, and its terrifying, but you've never felt quite so alive.

everything is butterflies, exploding through your stomach. you can't help but smile thinking about them, its sickeningly sweet. the sound of their name tastes like chocolates and wine. happy and in love.

living under an alias in witness protection. miserable but safe. and here you are, pretending to be someone you are not. you feel like a snake forced to wear its shed skin. you feel like you've been forced back into the closet after a glimpse of sunlight.

after years of working yourself to the bone, you feel as though you plateaued. you're entering a doomed stage of depression that is scarily comfortable. days go by in bed-- comfortably numb.

maybe someday you'll stay in one place long enough to fall in love, but for now you fear the sensation, so you run away each time you feel yourself becoming attached. sometimes it hurts more than others, but you know that this is just self preservation. your best chance to survive is to never feel heartbreak again. so you move from city to city, leaving unfinished business in each one because you fear intimacy, because you need to create a name for yourself, because you have lost too damn much and you cant bear any more.

and maybe you'll never escape this shit town you grew up in. everything feels hopeless as you watch your friends, lovers, family move away and start their lives. you feel like a loser, a nobody, marking time.

sprinting through the streets of a foreign city. electricity is scratching your brain so that everything is a pounding, uncontrollable noise.

hazy. you can't exactly remember what happened last night, just the ghost of its sensations. you drink yourself into oblivion, feeling alone in the company of others. you try to fill the cavity of loneliness from the loss of loved ones with experience in the night: you party, you talk, you drink, you cry... but you always wake up alone in a haze.

Linger by the Cranberries but you’re out in the woods, all alone. You were smart (sort of) and managed to build a lean-to to keep you sheltered from the sudden storm, but now you’re stuck here… Watching the fire crackle and hiss.

You have your radio on in case of forest fire (though you don’t quite understand how to use it, and you’re not sure you’d know if there was an emergency broadcast). It makes a delicate hissing noise that you can hardly hear over the wind and rain. Endless white noise.

Then, out of nowhere, a song. A song that’s familiar in an unfamiliar way– you know it, but couldn’t sing it. Hear the words but can’t understand them.

You lean back. Close your eyes. And wonder if anyone’s missing you.
