The Commander shakes her head in response to the doctor's initial question, digits scratching at the nape of her neck awkwardly. She's more than aware this is out of Ivy's pay range— hell, it's outside of her own pay range. (Nobody ever told Nina she would have to be interacting with Prothean beacons when joining the Alliance.) But, she still complies with the doctor's request, raking through her internal filing cabinet for any key facts or memories.

A few seconds of silence pass, lips finally pressing themselves into a firm, straight line of defeat. "No, I've never seen anything like it before. I mean, I've seen a lot of stuff but... nothing quite like that." The more Nina thinks about whatever it is she saw, bile threatens to creep its way up her throat. "I feel like... maybe it was trying to tell me something? I honestly don't know." And that's the truth— she truly doesn't know. (If the gore-soaked, destruction-filled vision was communicating with her, there was much to fear from that singular vision alone.)

That one thought is enough for the blonde to begin getting off the cot. "You're positive all my vitals are fine? There's absolutely nothing out of the norm?"

ivy offers a handful of unhelpful "hmms" and "ahhs", prodding away at her data pad. she's never had to deal with anything like this, that's for sure. while she's well-versed in unpacking the usual combat trauma, she's afraid that this is out of her depth of knowledge.

" well, if we look back at the overall purpose of a beacon, regardless of if were alien technology or not... they are meant to transmit messages, no? so it would not be completely unfounded to think that it was trying to convey some sort of message to whoever came across it--- " the doctor suggests, although her line of thinking has no real basis in anything and could prove to be a dangerous assumption.

ivy peers at the commander's exam results again. " the only notable thing i could see were abnormal brainwaves for a moment, as well rapid eye movement consistent with deep sleep--- perhaps the beacon was still maintaining some sort of connection while you were unconscious? "

Her eyebrows raise at the mention of an explosion— she doesn't remember that. The cycle relives itself in her brain until suddenly, a piece comes back— a glimpse of something. Gore, destruction, extinction. The Commander can't piece it all together and it causes her features to scrunch, fingers scratching at the nape of her neck. A sense of fear begins pooling at the bottom of her stomach. "I remember pushing Alenko out of the way, the beacon drawing me in..." She trails off in the manner of a soldier; a closed-off individual who doesn't want to give too much away. (Especially without having all of their facts put together yet.)

But then, Nina glances around the room again— it used to be so ugly when Doctor Chakwas was the Normandy's doctor. (Not to say she was a bad doctor— she wasn't. She was an excellent doctor during her time aboard the Normandy.) But now, the room feels more inviting with the greenery. Plants and floral accents hide the bland undertones and scents of disinfectant. As if she can actually open her mouth, breathe, and speak clearly.

And, she does.

"I'm not sure if I was awake or dreaming, but I saw... something at some point. Death, destruction— I'm just not sure." Shepard thinks she, herself, sounds crazy. A potential bad dream, one she can't even double down on, isn't qualifiable to place inside a report. (And, maybe, that's a good thing.) But, if the beacon caused any psychological damage, the doctor needed to be able to figure that out.

ivy's typing in all the information as it comes, unable to make any more sense of it herself. even just from simple observation, she can tell that the commander is shaken by what she's endured. as with all things that take place in the med bay, what shepard chooses to disclose will remain confidential. the doctor looks up with pursed lips, trying to find a suitable response.

" i see... well... did you recognize anything by chance? or rather, was the vision something you might have experienced in the past? " of course, ivy had familiarized herself with shepard's files long before she had even stepped foot on the normandy. trauma seemed to follow the commander in abundance, so perhaps it was simply a set of recalled memories.

" i'm sure this is quite difficult, especially since you've just woken up, " the doctor adds soon after. " if you want some time to recollect your thoughts, that is fine as well. "

It had only felt like a few seconds ago— her feet had been planted on Eden Prime, Kaidan had approached the Prothean beacon, but something suddenly activated. The Commander managed to pull him out of harm's way, but then— pitch black. There are no other events she can remember. Those events repeat like a cycle throughout the blonde's mind before her eyes flutter open, cerulean irises revealed as she's greeted by an overhead bright fluorescent light. A groan rasps from her throat as her arm moves to shield her eyes, her body slowly sitting up from the cot.

Once she's reorientated, her arm finally drops to her side and examines her surroundings. It only takes two seconds to realize she's on the Normandy, precisely when she finds the doctor's face. Doctor Ivy's a refreshing sight to see and in response, the Commander exhales a sigh of relief. "Words can't express how happy I am to see you, Doc." Over the likes of a local Eden Prime doctor, of course. Instinctively, she glances between both end tables by the cot, finding the one housing a small cup of water. A Normandy medical bay customary. As the liquid hits her throat, Nina finds another form of relief— this time for her raspy throat.

But then, she doesn't waste another second— her eyes squint as her gaze narrows at the doctor. "What the hell happened out there?" There's another pressing matter prodding at the back of her head— what happened to the beacon?

the nature of her job meant that there were no guarantees that soldiers would return once they stepped foot off the ship. still, this was meant to be a retrieval mission. no one had expected things to go so awry. working as a ship's doctor often meant sitting around with baited breath until the dust had finally settled, so ivy had her ear glued to the comms channel, hoping that everyone would come back in one piece.

when the commander was finally wheeled into the medical bay, on the surface, it looked as if everything was fine. sure, she may have sustained some typical combat damage, but nina shepard looked far better than some of the marines that had come under ivy's care in the past.

" unfortunately, i don't think i can shed much light on the whole situation. " ivy flipped through the commander's medical charts, scanning for any stand out abnormalities. " from what i understand, however, you made some sort of contact with the prothean beacon shortly before it exploded. your physicals seem to be alright-- but contact with alien technology may have side effects that go beyond physical analysis. how are you feeling? do you remember anything significant? "
