Why are some jax fans so stupid 😭 no I'm not a transphobe for hating jax, so dramatic omg.
Jax is a complex character but he's not a character with character development.
Thats it.
Thats the whole post.
Character development requires change. Jax never changes. We just learn theres a reason He's an asshole and the reasoning is complex
Hence a complex character.
Not developed.
He's still an ass. He's just an ass with a backstory.
Spoilers for TADC episode 9
Okay, but what drives me kinda nuts about Jax
What, I realize, is the reason why I dislike him so much and feel like he took over everything in the story without it being justified
Is that none of his problems are related to being trapped in a Digital Circus.
None.
All he is is a bunch of melodrama tropes not related in any way with the themes of the story. Being stuck in an avatar that doesn't suit you? Well he thinks he's a little ridiculous, but that's it, nothing groundbreaking. Having to go in adventures? He acts like he enjoys them like a FPS and make them even more miserable for everyone else! Caine? Of all the characters, Jax seem to mind Caine the less, he barely interacts with him and doesn't seem scared of him.
Some people gave Pomni shit for acting like a Y/N character, but at least she had some sort of interaction with the main story, at least she has the pilot to show her sense of anguish, at least she understood a NPC!
Jax is a self-insert in the worst sense possible, not the kind you write with a love for the story and the wish to bring an interesting perspective to an established world. A self-insert that's just here to show how the world that's been carefully built doesn't matter because he is here and his story and his little drama is so much more interesting than the rest, you guys.
Anyways. Rest in peace, the version of the story we could have had if the rabbit didn't take over.
I agree with your feelings on the TADC finale, friend. They just… FORGIVE HIM?? THE IMPLIED SEXUAL GROOMER??? AFTER ALL THE PAIN HE INFLICTS, THEY JUST… FORGIVE HIM? NO ARGUMENTS, NO ANGER, NO FIGHT, JUST A HUG AND HIM FEELING SORRY FOR HIMSELF??? WHAT??? YOU’RE GOING TO LOOK ME DEAD IN MY FOUR EYES AND EXPECT ME TO LOVE THE ABUSIVE CHARACTER WHO GOT ZERO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT BUT ALL OF THE SCREENTIME?? WHAT???? We know NOTHING about Pomni btw. But we know all of Jax’s “trauma”. Trauma that doesn’t excuse his actions. This guy is a misogynist, he’s sexist, he’s an abuser, physically, mentally, and sexually. GODDD the writing for this show pisses me off.
JAAAAAAAAAX WHEN I GET MY FUCKING HANDS ON YOU.
Jax isn't some deep or morally grey character, he's just pathetic. [This isn't TADC hate]
I don't feel bad for him, I don't necessarily want him to abstract, but I still don't feel bad for him and I don't think I ever will.
He's corny, he's destructive, almost all of his suffering is a consequence to his shitty behavior, and most of all, he's not on the same level as a lot of super villains out there. Believe me, he'd like to THINK of himself as "the funny one" the one who always is the rage baiter and never the rage baited, but he's not, Jax has shown that he will overreact whenever the other circus members either retaliate or make him the butt of the joke (The maid costume and Ragatha unintentionally using cartoon logic against him) He's the kind of guy who would mask blatant sexism or racism as "dark humor" and call you a snowflake if you asked him to explain the punchline of his "joke" but when someone else makes an offensive joke at his expense, he gets all butt-hurt about it for the rest of the day.
Does he have reasons to be the way be is? Yes, but I personally don't think he's going to get a redemption arc, I don't think the other circus members will actually forgive him, they just have to tolerate him for the time being given their situation, and I don't think he's supposed to be this "deep character" who will grow into a better person after his victims "find it in their heart to forgive him" Jax isn't exactly a pure evil villain, but he is insufferable and it gets to a point where trying to defend him is just exhausting when you know he's probably just going to relapse again.
To me, Jax reminds me of the cesspool that is the negativity of social media. Real people will harass strangers online the same way Jax will abuse Gangle, real people will rationalize cyber bullying children on Tiktok the same way Jax will rationalize his abusive behavior.
"You know none of this is real, right?" Is on an identical level to "It's not THAT deep!" They're both excuses that try to pass off the harm that was caused as everyone else's problem for not "getting that it was a joke"
Similarly to Jax rationalizing the way he treats people for the majority of the show with the "nothing is real" excuse, people can justify telling a stranger online to KYS because they can hide behind a screen with a multitude of excuses, maybe its because its an unhealthy coping mechanism in order to have some kind of control over something or someone, maybe its because they're behind a screen so its easier to verbally abuse strangers without remorse when the victim will most likely be unable to fight back, maybe its because of their own insecurities that the idea of another person having the confidence to do what they can't enrages them to their core, because when they try too hard to be "different" or "mature" by labeling anything they don't personally like as "cringe" you'll see a rise in miserable people who are too scared to engage with what they want and who they want without fear of being ridiculed for it, worse yet , you'll see a rise in bullies now that they have a "socially acceptable reason" to ruin someone's life.
Anyway, back to Jax, that's what he ultimately is at the end of the day. He's a bully that would rather make his struggles everyone's struggles by making their lives so much harder than they already are, he doesn't contribute much other than negativity in general. At this point, the nicest thing anyone will be able to say about him is that they don't think he deserves to die, because most bullies like him aren't actually evil enough to deserve a death penalty, but they're terrible enough that people will take joy in seeing them be humiliated.
While I do believe that the Jax hate is a little overblown since A: He's not real and B: He is being thought as Gooseworx's blorbo, it's not exactly unfounded, he's an obnoxious little shit who reminds a lot of people of mean spirited jackasses they know at school, work, at home, etc.
I'm done with TADC guys...
(Technically there are no spoilers, but see for yourself)
I'm not angry, I'm just incredibly disappointed, so much so that it hurts.
I know expectations are my problem, but considering I spent weeks avoiding the episode's spoilers and, despite the negative reviews, holding on to hope for the best, what I finally got is impossible to ignore the utterly bad script. And it's objectively bad. The series promised to emphasize the relationships between the characters, but most of them didn't even get proper development, let alone interaction. Those who got screen time were either uninteresting jerks (you know who I'm talking about) or characters who were completely ruined by the end. Details that had previously surfaced in the plot were simply forgotten and never developed; the characters spend most of their time doing nothing, making their development completely lacking.
Guys, I'm not a whiner at all. I really liked this series and followed it even before the pilot, and that's why I'm upset, because I can imagine what we could have gotten and what kind of utter trash they shoved at us, on par with what Vivienne does. After episode 5, I felt like the series took a completely wrong turn, and the ending, for me, was confirmation of all that. I swear, the 20s will forever remain for me a period of good projects that were ruined by their endings.
I think I've had enough of Digital Circus and everything else that Glitch Studios puts out.
Something that has sort of annoyed me is that no other character is allowed to breathe in their own moments and there always needs to be a cutaway to Jax to see his reaction, see how he's feeling about it, see what's going on with him. It's gotten really tiring because it's constant.
I can list all the moments from the top of my head and it's just so frustrating how he continues to sideline literally every other female character and how he has so much focus put on him, including by the other characters. Why do all the female characters who he's been harassing and been a major dick to mention him like every two seconds, can y'all talk about anything other than this man. I really dislike how the show treats Jax.
It feels like he's constantly given some reason that his bad behavior can be sidelined, and he's being given a million chances, even in the show by the other characters, who shouldn't really keep giving him a chance. And he's constantly shown to the audience how sad and how close he is to abstraction, and I don't really kinda care, it's been twice, it's like the boy who cried wolf. Plus, with how he's treated literally everyone. How do you genuinely expect me to care about this asshole.
He's given every excuse and sidelines everyone and all the characters want to go help him and he pushes them away even further. Every female character wants to help and forgive him and are willing to try meanwhile he just spits on them and goes on a cringy fucking monologue about how he's the joker or something. God I'm tired of this rabbit, he's so fucking terrible and I hate how his mere presence just ruins every other character around him because no he's actually really sad and everyone needs to baby this man. I hate him so much.
oh, great, that's the infamous deuteragonist of the show... taking all the time of the trailer of the last episode... but don't worry you guys he's only the second most important character of TADC... no of course we're not going to pry away any screentime from the others... it's gonna be balanced between all of them don't worry.......
⚠️ Major spoilers and critique for TADC the last act ⚠️
Jax has keys everywhere, including other people's rooms. There's no way to lock him out. Jax wanted Gangle to be "submissive and agreeable". Jax sexually blackmailed Gangle (basically sextortion) by threatening to reveal the "figurine thing".
Yeah, now that I think about it, this was kinda obvious...
Oh so the moral lesson about Jax is that even bad people still deserve kindness and support despite their harmful behavior, because in the end they're still people and they can chang- Oh my God did he actually just abstract. Without learning anything. Did he actually die what was the point
Jax may have suffered (it was basically all his fault but still) but what does he learn?
The best you can do is "he learns that people will help you even at your worst", but not only is that kind of a weird lesson to give to an abuser of all people, it also means fucking nothing! Because he STILL insults Pomni in his last moments! He never thanks her for anything she's done!
And other than that, what else does he learn?
He learns that he can physically assault people with little to no pushback. He learns that he can harass and traumatize people and no one will get on his ass for it for more than two seconds.
He learns that no matter what he does, people will bend over backwards to keep him stable, even at their own expense.
And, again, what a terrible fucking lesson to give to someone with almost no redeeming qualities, someone who's basically done nothing but hurt people for years.
Fuck this show man.
jax sucks and is a bad person who abuses others for fun, never apologizes, never improves, and he does not get a pass for being “traumatized” or being implied to be trans. the fact he consistently abuses women and is misogynistic (which goose acknowledges is true about his character) isn’t okay because he’s potentially trans. He’s an asshole and abuser. And spoilers, the finale does nothing to prove otherwise, only hammer home that he’s always been a bad person and will continue to be. And its not the other circus members’ responsibility to make him better when he turns their efforts away and continues to abuse them.
and btw i was sooooo invested in changing my mind about jax. i never liked him, but the depth they wrote was promising to a meaningful arc and change that would make me like him. but theres none. hea just a shitty person we’re supposed to feel bad for.
Edit: to be clear this is me venting about not liking the ending of the show and its messaging. it is NOT a moral judgement on people who like jax as a character. You can like him! I just think his character is a tragedy about people who are shitty and never change but was executed poorly by the writing with harmful messaging.

Some Gangles
hey so why are people suddenly feeling bad forJax?? Have we just forgotten the past few episodes??
"he didn't deserve it" YES HE DID!
Have whatever opinion you want, but Jax has been nothing but a TERRIBLE person and needed to be humbled SO bad. Don't get me wrong, I love him- he's my third favourite tied with gangle. But he's a terrible person. How did we go from hating him after episode 2, to now suddenly thinking he didn't deserve his treatment? 😭 mind you, he's been torturing the others for years! He had it coming.
Also the new Gangle and Ragatha hate also confuses me? Let me start with Ragatha.
From what I'm aware of, the hate is from what she said to Gangle. And I get that it wasn't nice, but as soon as she says it, she does point it out herself.
Just a reminder she's literally high out of her mind with no filter. There's no thoughts in that head, because they're all coming out. that's her thought in the moment, and people think unpleasant things all the time. We're just usually able to control what we say.
Ragatha like this also makes her feel more human- she has faults just like all of us do. She's not a completely good person all the time, but who is? People love Jax for being an asshole(me included) , so why hate on Ragatha? This also applies to the Gangle hate.
People tend to hate gangle in this episode because of how she acts, but personally I love seeing her being more than sad and pathetic all the time. She's doing a job that she has experience with. Yes, she gets a little carried away sometimes, but she's also a struggling person that's already not taken seriously by her fellow circus members.
By the end of the episode she seems like she's about to lose it if it weren't for Pomni being there to take the rest of the adventure for her (take the closing shift, which I really liked.) Hell, even then it's hard to tell if she did or didn't purposely fall into traffic. and she still took the responsibility for her actions at the end in the office with Caine.
You can disagree with me if you want, I don't really care. But I feel like people are so desperate to put characters into a black and white boxes of "good" and "bad". People aren't even like that, it's really hard to be an OBJECTIVELY good or bad person, because imo, that's subjective. one person's good is another's bad, and there's also some things that aren't good nor bad.
Sorry this post is so long, I'm just very passionate about this show and the concept of a good and bad person. But honestly, good on gooseworx because you know you're doing something right when you can evoke such strong feelings from people people. Props to her 👏
Yeah like, TADC is shaping up to be a character-explorative show where we get to know the characters deeper over time. I actually liked to see Ragatha is not a cheeky optimist and that she actually resents being in the circus and the people around her, It was only a matter of time before she bared her teeth.
Same hing with Gangle: It was great to see her not sad and striving for somethig out of nostaliga, yet at the same time seeing her slowly falling into despair. I'm sorry but before this I only felt contempt for her.
The discourse surroaunding Jax is so confusing. People thought he was a lovable asshole, then they were angry he showed no redeeming qualities and now they say he didn't deserve it?
Like I'm not saying he did but this was a "fuck around and find out" situation and he fucked around with no regard for consequences.
Well, my fave is Pomni who is so far, unproblematic and perfect so...
I lied guys i like gangles singing
I hope gangle beats Jaxs ass in the new ep
