Today marks 30 years since the movie, Balto, was released. It certainly has its flaws but the third act is a work of art on its own at least. I also can't deny that it's probably the movie that really got me into art and it's certainly one I always turn to whenever I'm suffering art block.

Is it just me or is some of zooble's dialogue too corny and on the nose. I’m not saying all dialogue has to be realistic or "show don’t tell" but genuinely who talks like this. Tadc always had therapy talk scenes but I feel like the dialogue downgraded in this episode idk.

Also what is gangle's room meant to convey. it’s very bland, like i can’t think of what it’s meant to represent about her fears/insecurities? Living a bland depressing life idk?

Js we needed two seasons to further develop characters and their relationships, zooble and Pomni never talked, neither has ragatha and kinger really. Caine and kinger obv, ragatha in general needed more time to shine, gangle needed more lore, the memory loss thing should’ve present by the time ragatha appeared to justify her ignorance of kingers life (or have it be a modifier to prevent kinger from abstracting since Caine would have no more humans) legit so much needed to be expanded on just banish jax for a couple episodes and see how goose would write

I don't know about two seasons, but definitely extra episodes. Ragatha and Kinger not having a well established interesting bond is ridiculous considering how long they've been in the circus together (yes even with kinger's craziness, you can still be friends with demented people). Even with the memory loss thing, I feel like ragatha wouIdve definitely found out about kinger's lore before pomni. It's not a rare occurrence to be in the dark for him especially with his pillow fort, so that's a plot hole. I like the idea of a mind modifier being responsible for kinger's resilience, it adds to Caine's selfishness/loneliness.

Idk if Pomni and Zooble needed to have a one on one conversation/dialogue, but it definitely would have benefited their characters.

Honestly, most of the characters (besides Jax and caine) are written to be pretty one dimensional where they only have like 3-4 established traits/facts about them. I feel like Tadc is a story which beats around the bush a lot and doesn't have much continuity between episodes. Like they flat out just waste time on random shit. For example, the intermission scene in ep5 and jax's almost abstraction sequence in ep7 didn't need to be that long.

My biggest issue with Jax is that we were lore baited until the finale (episodes 5-8) on his backstory, and so the scenes of him panicking and being sad/stressed become repetitive and useless after a certain point. If the other characters had a more detailed backstory/motivations then I would not be as resentful of jax

Instagram is a useless platform for small artists. The hashtags do not allow you to filter to "most recent", so you’re only ever seeing the most popular art. This renders the hashtag system completely useless if you have less then like 500 followers. Reddit sucks too because they remove you for not having enough karma so the auto mods delete your stuff for basically no reason.

Caine’s characterization in ep 9 was disapointing and just how they handled his arc in general so im gonna rant about it a lil

Spoiler underneath:

I really hate the fact that Caine just suddenly gets revived and gets all buddy buddy with everyone.

First of, ARE WE JUST GONNA FORGET ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE TORTURED EVERYONE FOR DAYS?!? Like fr why is everybody playing dnd together with their abuser?!? Like I get that there was a timeskip and Caine probably became a better person or whatever, but like as a viewer the whiplash of going from Caine stabbing Ragatha with knives as the image of her abusive mother looming over her to yay friends happy yippee! in the span of 2 episodes is insane. This is why I say that tadc would’ve HEAVILY benefited from having more episodes because then we could actually see caine’s redemption for ourselves instead of the story going yup they’re friends now :D I love Caine and all, but he got left off the hook wayyy too easy. Like Zooble definitely should’ve screamed and berated him for all the shit he pulled in ep 8

And secondly, it feels like they kinda forgot that his whole thing is not understanding humans? And his selfish desperate need for validation? That keeps him from actually building a relationship with the cast as equals? It just feels like that after getting deleted, all these problems just disappeared. Obviously dying would make you reflect on your life but this literally something that he’s been struggling with for 20 years without making much progress and now it’s just solved. Overall his Realisation just felt really unrealistic to me and again, if tadc had more episodes then they would actually have him slowly coming to this realization, but they don’t.

I want to see him struggle, I want to see him fail, I want to see try and be better and keep falling back into the same old habits and decisions that lead him to die in the first place and most importantly I want to see him succeed.

Again, I don’t want them to kill Caine off forever, hes my favourite and him hanging out with the cast was very cute, but I feel like they just kinda threw in a super rushed redemption that actively cheapens his character and if they really wanted the make the last episode satisfying then they probably should’ve just left him dead and gave his screen time to Ragatha or something.

Why is every human in Tadc besides Jax emotionally mature/aware and nice. It’s like he absorbed everyone else’s negative traits. Tell me if i’m wrong.

⚠️ Major spoilers and critique for TADC the last act ⚠️

Tadc the last act disappointed me tbh. Being able to sit with uncomfortable topics and explore the existential horror of the circus was what i liked about the show. The happy ending did not feel earned whatsoever. Here are my disorganized thoughts:

Jax's backstory being shoved into the finale instead of getting its own ep was not well done. None of the characters seem personally challenged in the last act like they cry for a bit and that’s it. The circus is black and white for a total of five minutes before it’s colours come back and it’s fixed. Caine being able to come back was not explained and happened in like 5 minutes. And him suddenly redeeming himself in like 2 mins when he couldn’t understand the humans in 8 whole episodes was insane.

pretty much all of the characters besides jax and debatably caine are underdeveloped.

i liked Jax before episode 9 but this episode made me turn on him. He insults Ragatha about her mom and blames Kinger when he basically saved them all from caine. And neither of them bite back and no one ever confronts him about why he acts like this or what he’s hiding even when he sabotages others because of his turmoil. Jax being an asshole is fine but everyone just taking it is weird (especially zooble). It would have been SO interesting to see Kinger snap at Jax since we’ve never seen him angry before. Also in the last episode they were supervising jax constantly and in this one pomni just lets him walk away?! And then he constantly berates ribbit for nothing besides knowing his backstory that he himself decided to reveal which contributes to her abstraction. Yet the main emotional appeal of the episode is feeling sorry for jax.

Also keep in mind we still don’t know what exactly abstraction is or how it works and there are so many other unanswered questions. The last straw for me was having them be super happy with just looking at their irl selves on instagram living the life that they should have. Do you guys not experience fomo? i would abstract on the spot.

overall TADC could have been so much better and had so much missed potential. I say this as someone who’s been a fan since late 2023.
