i feel like i've briefly talked ab melinda before but maybe not on my blog bc im searching and nothing comes up lol.

people in the fandom usually have a super black and white view of melinda; either she's a saint who single-handedly saved brian and can do no wrong, or she's just landy with long blonde hair. ultimately i can't know the intimate details of a marriage im not in, but i feel like melinda was a regular, not perfect person, that did mostly good. im sure she and brian loved and cared for each other. there are instances like her encouraging him to work with joe thomas and being hesitant about him finishing SMiLE, or encouraging him to tour towards the end of his life, but overall he seemed happy and healthy with her. we also don't know how much of the more questionable/exploitative looking stuff around brian during his later years was melinda's idea or his management. melinda wasn't a healthcare professional or anything, so it's unfair to expect her to be perfect.

my one thing is that idk why they had so many kids... which mostly seemed to be melinda's decision. like both were older and brian was never really in a state to be a good parent sorry 😭 im sorry if you wanted children and life didn't pan out for you, but that doesn't mean you should adopt a bunch of kids with a 70 year old with dementia. and ik carnie and wendy have mixed feelings ab her but idk not my family so i wouldn't know.

i think blondie was super cute and i love that Sail On Sailor is one of their most known songs. it's sad brian didn't like it but i guess the conception was really messy and he and vdp were breaking up again and everything. but that has nothing to do with blondie and he showed out like always. Carl and the Passions is also one of my fave albums especially the blondie and ricky songs. Good answers really thought out Carl and Dennis are my 2 favorite BBs and I totally agree with you on Carl regarding the Landy situation it also bums me out that Carl was a member of that spiritual awareness cult and even though it helped him get clean it was still a cult and the founder was mistreating women and kids.

Dennis’s love for Brian was so huge that I firmly believe especially during the bedroom years Dennis would’ve done anything Brian said he wanted to do like if he said I want to watch Johnny Carson they’d watch the Tonight Show together or I want to have my hair combed he’d comb his hair he was that devoted to him.

these are not really niche and you will probably know how i feel from reading my blog, but i will say them because they are hot button topics in the bb fandom and i get mad in discussions regarding them.

dennis is unfairly maligned for making brian worse/enabling him when dennis was the one person who constantly stood by brian and made him feel loved and cared about. yes he gave him cocaine. brian was a millionaire celebrity he was getting cocaine either way 😭 does that mean dennis deserved to get beaten to the point of hospitalization. OBVIOUSLY NOT. frankly i'd rather have brian do drugs with his sweet baby bro than any weird hanger-on who wants his fifteen minutes of fame as brian's bestie for the day.

and carl WAS WRONG. flat-out. for bringing landy back into brian's life the second time. he knew landy was shady. he knew brian was very unhappy during his first treatment. but he chose the solution that was convenient and felt like a quick fix and brian suffered for it. "but landy saved brian's life and he was improving/he got off drugs and lost weight/it was the only way to get through to brian/no one knew better back then" it's pure luck and brian's own tortoise-like constitution that saved his life. he went from hard drugs to a heavy dosage of psychiatric medications prescribed under the order of someone who did not have the expertise and authority to prescribe drugs. he was on a diet of like 600 calories a day and was overexercising until he lost 100+ lbs in 4-6 months which SOMEHOW didn't kill him. people "not knowing better" regarding mental illness is not an excuse for the abuse people face from psychiatric treatments/professionals and their families/people around them. brian's own wants and needs were completely written off because he was seen as "crazy", and he was not given intervention because he was not cooperating with getting well out of stubbornness and stupidity. he was forced and humiliated into accepting cruelty under duress when he had already tried to voice his actual feelings. he had also voluntarily admitted himself into in-patient treatments multiple times, and while i can imagine psych facilities weren't too good in the 60s-70s, i believe the structure might have been beneficial to him, but they pushed for him to do out-patient so he could keep working.

carl literally had other options and he didn't take them. he was a good guy, a genuinely great human being and a saint when you compare him to some of the others in the band. but this is the one massive thing i am tired of people excusing with ableist comments.

It’s not easy having Brian Wilson as your older brother, so much seemingly natural talent it’s a lot to live under! But Dennis seemed to mostly revere him and not resent him for it after childhood
