I was taking a walk this morning and needed to just be creative. There was beauty all around me but I didn’t feel compelled to take any photos but forced myself. As I was snapping away my mind began to construct narratives to accompany the images I took. So many little stories made in the moment and forgotten to time but still the photos of that brief spot in time persist.

I have resettled in the valley and am working on making drawings from colouring pencils. Right now I drawing Om symbols as a way of brining my yoga practice and art practice together. I like the idea of the pencil requiring you to focus in on what your are doing, as each image is an accumulation of lines, or what I like to think of as strings of attention tying your focus to what’s on the page. I am grateful to be back to drawing again, even if it is a very focused project. I’m excited to get a few framed and to have them floating around as reminders of being mindful and connected to the universe for myself. I may try to send a few out as gifts depending on how long I will repeat this ritual (I love gifting art, I think it’s like giving part of your soul to someone).

Digital Studio Diary #5
September approaches and I am migrating through Vancouver Island once again to attend college classes. I have a small room by the college to call my own and for now still have the office space I was using but it is a 2 hour drive from the college. I will need to make art somewhere but where? I imagine having an RV or trailer home to use as a studio right now. I had a friend who is an artist who did this… I’ve seen other artists do it… I’ve read about other artists doing this… so I am now fantasizing this for myself, a perfect solution for being the Island Nomad that I am. The college will have some space but is it really feasible with all the restriction they must instate? Do I have a choice? Maybe I will rent a new studio space? There are two many questions to ask about how this will all come together and too few answers in hand, so I’m taking a leap and making it happen whatever that may mean. For now I am focused on moving and trying to make things work as best I can, fitting in scraps of work here and there (the same as always really). For now I am toiling away at home and doing mostly computer work and the business end of things. One day at a time, one thing at a time, one breath at a time.
I think we all need this reminder <3 and level of self acceptance <3 I know I do <3

Moon and Stars: Creative Reflection
A mural I walk by every day when I’m at work. I’ve been obsessed with the moon and star motif, it is so intrinsic in human nature that some of the first visual art we have in the western cannon are stars being depicted in an Egyptian tomb. Somehow it’s comforting to see this same idea transmuted by someone else at some point. For me it demonstrates that we are more connected than we would often think; tethered to our ancestors, those who occupy our same space-time, our progeny present and yet to come.
Here’s a quick acrylic paint sketch/painting I was working on a little while back. I’ve since finished it and made other manifestations of art that are inline with the same imagery.
