Just pause for a moment and picture PLL if it were not on ABC Family. I don’t think the overall story would be different, because PLL is about 5 girls sticking together to solve the mystery of A. However, how they go about presenting the story would no doubt be different if it were on another TV network!
Could you imagine Hanna doing her one-liners whilst swearing?
Or the liars going to clubs drinking (not being worried about setting a family friendly image every single time)?
Or A running around town with a gun being even more reckless?
Or a few more sexy scenes?
Or a bit more violence, perhaps more intensity than just A pushing Mona into a wall in her ‘murder’ video.
Or more realistic reactions by the liars when A does something wicked, rather than “oh my god” (who wouldn’t scream WTF at the top of your lungs when you get creepy texts about body bags, dead friends, threats, or texts that expose secrets!)
Or maybe longer finales, like How To Get Away With Murder which extended their really important, answer-filled season finale.
Or Spencer could’ve been a legit A/evil for more than 2 episodes - ABC Family actually rejected Marlene’s idea of revealing Spencer as A in a finale and making fans wait months later until the NEXT finale to reveal its for the greater good. ABCF said yes to the idea but fans must find out almost straight away (2 episodes) the truth.
Or the sets could be bigger and better due to he network giving a higher budget. For years we were used to the same sets - Rosewood High, the Brew and the liars’ homes.
Or perhaps with a bigger budget we could get an episode or two in a different location; I remember Shay said her dream PLL episode would be in Europe but the closest ABC Family would ever get to going overseas is Melissa’s apartment in London from 5B!
Or we could get quality episodes over quantity of episodes - ABC Family is clearly taking PLL down the quantity (7 seasons) over quality path. There are some episodes which literally have no relevance at all to the major story and the story could have still progressed without some episodes (most of 5B…)
Or Sparia finally getting it on??? Probably not haha
Now, this list isn’t supposed to be a list of hate of what PLL is doing wrong. Every network is different. We all love PLL (and hate at times) - but mostly love. But at times I can’t help but daydream about what it COULD have been. Still very grateful for what we do have but I could day dream all day about a swearing Hanna and a super drunk Spencer, and an A that has no chill and goes on a shooting spree.
