List of PLL questions!
Believe it or not, we do have answers to every single plot point in the show. Some are ambiguous and are still theory-based rather than confirmed, but, since the show has officially ended, we have to assume it is safe to accept the most basic and logical theory as being factual. If it wasnât answered explicitly in the show, itâs because the writers felt it was already answered (or was so damn obvious). Also, some things in the show ended up not being significant, such as Wren colouring in a red coat. Some things really are as simple as they appear at first glance; not everything has a subliminal and deeper message. Please keep these notes in mind when reading these. So here is every single mystery-related plot point, and their respective confirmed/most likely answers.
Who is A.D./Uber A? Alex Drake: Spencerâs twin.
What does A.D. stand for? Alex Drake.
Who killed Charlotte, and why? Mona. It began where Charlotte was taunting Mona for still being that weak nerd from high school who is an outsider to the PLLs; they will never love and accept her. This fuelled Monaâs anger and so in an attempt to scare Charlotte, Charlotte unexpectedly fought back, and it was her life or Charlotteâs. Mona accidentally killed Charlotte.
What is A.D.âs motive for playing with the girls? How could this really be about avenging Charlotteâs death, if the girls had nothing to do with it? Alex Drake was born in Radley and adopted and raised in London by a wealthy British family. Wren stumbled into Alex working in a bar, and he told her about the wonderful life her twin sister Spencer is having over in Rosewood. Alex decided that Spencer got the better end of the stick and so once she learnt about the death of her half-sister Charlotte, Alex was furious. Alex picked up the game where her half-sister left off, and began harassing the girls with the goal of causing a divide between them. Once Alex realised that her games are only bringing the girls closer, her motive shifted to killing Spencer and taking over her life. âIt was the luck of the draw. Spencer got everything and I got nothing. This isn't about money. This is about having a home. And parents. And friends who risk their lives for each other. Even when they make mistakes, they still love each other. I want to know what that feels like.â - Alex
Why is Charlotteâs death so important to A.D.? Charlotte is Alexâs half sister, and Charlotte was one of the few people that Alex formally met from her family in Rosewood that she never knew about.
Who killed Jessica, and why? Peter and Jessica were planning to kill Mary, as revenge for Mary pretending to be Jessica which lead to Spencerâs birth. Mary found out about Peter and Jessicaâs intent to kill her, and so Mary intercepted: Mary used Peterâs pills which (he bought to kill her) to instead kill Jessica. Both Mary and Jessica had the same heart condition (because they are twins) and so the pills intended to kill Mary, also worked to kill Jessica. Not only was Mary defending herself from Peter and Jessica who were coming after her, but Mary wanted Jessica dead anyway, as revenge for signing the papers that put her in a straight jacket at Radley, and also as revenge for Jessica telling her that Charles is dead - Jessica hid the transition from Charlotteâs own mother. So whilst Mary gave Peterâs pills to Jessica out of self defence, Mary planned on killing Jessica anyway.Â
Why was Charlotte Big A? Her own mother, Mary, could not take care of her, so when she was adopted into the DiLaurentis household, Kenneth was quick to get rid of her. His transphobia landed Charlotte in Radley where she lost touch with reality. Once a patient came in with interesting stories about some girls she was terrorising, Charlotte wanted a turn to play this. The prospect of succeeding at something in life, no matter the kind of activity, was something Charlotte wanted and needed. Indeed, the game eventually became a drug, to the point that Charlotte couldnât stay away from the sense of empowerment she got from it. Whilst she sure did put the girls through hell, a lot of her actions have individual motives. There is no single explanation that encapsulates every single attack Charlotte did. We cannot ask ourselves âwhy did CeCe hate the girls?â, because, she didnât hate the girls. I quote Charlotte âI love all of my dolls. Thatâs why youâre still aliveâ. Instead, we need to ask ourselves âwhy did Charlotte do that?â The answer as to why Charlotte did that, is NOT because she hated the girls. For example, she dug Aliâs grave in 301 because she wanted to know if Alison, her cousin, who she hit with the rock and watched be buried, is alive or not (as she began seeing glimpses of a girl in a red coat around town). This shows Charlotteâs love for Ali, thus explaining why she had to attack Ali in her own living room in season 5 - Ali was going to leave town! Charlotte didnât want Ali leaving town after she had just orchestrated a perfect plan at the lodge to make Ali come out of hiding. Further, Charlotte drove the car through Emilyâs house in a moment of anger the very same episode the girls learnt that CeCe Drake organised the flight plan to the lodge that night. Also, Charlotte put Emily on the conveyer belt as a âlisten to meâ kind of moment, as the girls were hot on CeCeâs trail. I mean, Spencer literally just asked an ex-Radley doctor if he knows a CeCe Drake... the girls were getting too close to uncovering Charlotteâs identity and she needed to scare them. Of course, as she was the other red coat in Ravenswood, she was keeping an eye on Emily too, so nothing was ever going to happen to her. Additionally, it was revealed in 716 that Lucas was emailing Charlotte about what a bully Ali is, and that her loyal band of followers just stood around and watched. So, Charlotte had additional reason to hate the girls, as they contributed to her only friend be bullied. Note, that Lucas did not know that the person he knew as Charles from the camp, became Charlotte/CeCe Drake.
Who was Alison so scared of throughout season 4? âI want to come home, but itâs still not safe for meâ. Charlotte, as A, actually wanted Ali to come home so who was Ali scared of? Ali was scared of the person that tried to kill her that night. Even though it indeed was A, it was a mistake; Charlotte was trying to kill Bethany instead. She felt like if she comes home alive, someone is just going to finish what they started and kill her for real. Of course that wasnât true, because all of Charlotteâs attacks were designed to keep Ali alive and IN Rosewood; she wanted Ali to come home, not stay away. Hence âI only got mad when you didnât listen.â
The emoji texts from 6B were never signed, so were these sent by AD or someone else? Alex Drake is the antagonist of the entirety of seasons 6B, 7A and 7B. Archer and Mary were trying to avenge Charlotteâs death too, but they never sent any texts.
Who is the father of Emisonâs baby? Wren Kingston.Â
Why did Wren agree to do that? He loved Alex too much. âI even gave life for you!â He did anything for Alex. As for Alex: âI think sheâs just wharfed enough to say âhereâs an opportunity, hereâs these eggsâ look what we can do to these girls, will you help me Wren?â (Source)
Why did Mona have an A-like lair in her apartment in 717? Mona got sucked into the game that Hanna invited her to play. She was asked by Hanna to help play and beat the game, and thatâs exactly what she was doing: helping the girls.
Why did we only hear of the initials A.D. in 620? Troian said this: 'Marlene took me aside and told me, "I have an idea, but I don't know if the network will let me do it..." Then she sat me down and explained this whole ending to me. âYou cannot tell anybody. It might not even happen." So I sat on it for over a year. Then at the end of season six, she said, "We're going to do it." It was like the starting gun at the races. So, they weren't entirely sure who Uber A would be during season 6. It wasn't until 620 that they confirmed it. In terms of the story, it doesnât mean anything as to why we never heard âADâ until 620.Â
Who is Charlotteâs father? Pastor Ted. He knew Mary from high school. Ted ran a camp and he frequently interacted with Charles but Ted never knew about the transition to Charlotte (or even the name CeCe Drake).Â
Why did Alex kill Wren? Wren was against Alexâs idea of her becoming Spencer. He saw her as Alex, but she wanted to become Spencer. Wren did not want this. Due to Jullian Morrisâ limited time on set, they did not have time to film his death scene. (Source)Â
Who killed Sara Harvey, and why? According to Jenna (7x12), Noel killed Sara Harvey because he did not want to share any of the money with Sara (or even Jenna, hence Jenna feared she is next). He wanted all of Charlotteâs money for himself, probably because his dad cut him off. Sara knew Noel is dangerous and was planning to backstab them, despite forming an alliance, so she packed her bags in a hurry and even started hinting to Emily that Noel is dangerous. Noel got to her first.Â
Why was Sara Harvey working for Charlotte as Red Coat and Black Widow? Charlotte told Sara that she hid her greatest treasure underneath the Radley, and so Sara helped Charlotte as Red Coat and Black Widow because she wanted this so called âpot of goldâ, as Sara assumed it was money. Sara assumed that Charlotte would give it to her, if she helped in the A games. However, it turns out that this âpot of goldâ was actually the Mary Drakeâs Radley file - not money. The fact that Charlotte was calling the file of her mother a âpot of goldâ goes to show Charlotteâs love for Mary, and, the fact she was hiding it, means that Charlotte wanted everyone to think she is a DiLaurentis, not a Drake. (This is the file that Spencer, Toby and Mona find in 620.) This is why Sara was staying in Charlotteâs old room at Radley - she was trying to find this pot of gold, and later in season 7, Jenna starts helping her, and then Jenna recruits Noel - Noel gets greedy and wants all the money to himself, so he kills Sara. Also, Marlene tweeted on July 20 2017 that âSara loved Charlotte because she took care of her. She would do anything for Charlotteâ. This aligns with what Sara revealed in 602: âI ran away. I was in a parking lot near Rosewood. I hit my head. Or someone hit me on the head. And I was down there (in the dollhouse).â So Sara ran away, and Charlotte took her in and cared for her. (Maybe Charlotte was the one to even kidnap her, but Sara doesnât know that, nor does it change the fact that Sara loves Charlotte.)
Who are Spencerâs parents? Peter Hastings and Mary Drake. Mary pretended to be Jessica to get back at Jessica for all the nasty things she did (Jessica blamed Mary for the death of a baby whilst babysitting). Peter thought he was seeing Jessica, just like he did when they had Jason. Veronica accepted Spencer as her baby literally 5 minutes after Mary gave birth - she couldnât stand the idea of her husbandâs baby being raised in Radley (with Mary). Veronica decided to not leave Peter despite finding out he cheated on her with Jessica again (well, Mary, the second time) because she was proud of the life they were beginning to create, and Veronica could see a bit of Melissa in her.
If Mona hit Bethany and Melissa buried her, how did an Alison bracelet end up on the body? We saw a flashback of Jessica yelling at Ali for playing games with CeCe; where CeCe pretends to be Alison in Radley. The purpose of this flashback was to show us that CeCe had Alisonâs clothes. âSheâs dressed head to toe in your clothesâ said Jessica. So, that night when Bethany stole all of CeCeâs clothes at Radley (because CeCe had out privileges and Bethany wanted to get out to hurt Jessica for the affair with her father), an Alison bracelet was amongst the pile of CeCeâs clothes.Â
What is Lucasâ connection to Charlotte? Lucas spent an entire summer with Charles at a camp for troubled kids. They formed a close relationship there, as Ted revealed that Lucas was Charlesâ only friend (and probably vice-versa too). They wrote a comic book together too, which awfully resembled the dollhouse.
Who shot Spencer? Alex Drake. She was hoping Spencer would die then, that way she can assume her identity. (Source 15:10)
How many children does Mary Drake have? Three. Charlotte, Spencer and Alex.
When and why did Archer Dunhill take on the identity of Doctor Elliot Rollins? To be with Charlotte. Jenna provided the identity and passport, as a favour to Charlotte, her friend.
If Archer is not a real doctor, how did Charlotte get better over the 5 years? Maybe she didnât get better? Charlotte did not get better over the 5 year break; confirmed in 719 when Mona says to Charlotte that she canât be as easily fooled by her act.Â
What is in Ariaâs file that would âput Ezra in jail and make him pick Nicole?â After Aria learnt that Ezra knew who she was the day they met at the bar, and was using her for research for a book, she began to fill out a form with the police to lodge Ezra as a pedophile. However she never officially filed this report, as she later reunited with Ezra. In 7B, she went against her friends to save her own marriage - if Ezra found out that his future wife saw him as a pedophile, he might choose Nicole, and Ezra might be sent to jail if that file got released (just like AD threatened).Â
Did Charlotte help Mona escape Radley, or did Mona help Charlotte escape Radley? Charlotte says in 610 that âIâd play the game with her if she helps me get out of Radleyâ, yet Mona says in 324 âshe gave me a way in and out of Radleyâ. Whoâs lying, and why? They both wanted to get out so they worked with each other. Itâs not a matter of âwho helped whoâ.
What is Melisasâs involvement in the entire series? Marlene agrees that Melissa was just the biggest red herring. She did, by accident, kill Bethany Young, to protect her sister. But thatâs really the only thing she as guilty of other than being a greedy older sister bitch. She was on the Halloween train working against Wilden but thatâs it. (Source)
Why did Charlotte put the girls in jail in 5B? The girls were arrested for Monaâs murder - a murder that never even happened. So, the girls were safe - nothing bad wouldâve happened to them, and this would not have been a lifetime sentence by any means. Charlotte arresting them was just a game. It was her way of getting the girls together to kidnap them, and take them to the dollhouse.
Why was Noel helping Charlotte in the dollhouse? If we believe Jenna from 712, Noelâs father cut him off and he wanted a share of Charlotteâs money.Â
Who did Rollins message saying âAlison didnât kill Charlotteâ (705) - and therefore, why did Rollins take Ali out to the lake if it wasnât to kill her as revenge for killing Charlotte? Probably Jenna, since the two were evidently in contact. He still took her out to the lake to kill her, since she knew about his hidden agenda and that heâs been harassing her.
Why did Ali say that combined, the girls remember enough to work out what happened to her that night? This is not a plot hole. Read an intricate post here. To summarise it, we were interpreting the word ârememberâ wrong. Essentially, the girls had enough RESOURCES to work out the important parts according to her own personal PERSPECTIVE: - Emily has befriended Toby, who Alison could count on to tell Emily about his role that night. - Aria is in a serious relationship with Ezra, who should have told her about his relationship with Alison and that he saw her that night. - Hanna learns that Alison had gone off to meet a boy, Emily and Spencer learn about Alison and Ianâs relationship, and Spencer knew about Aliâs odd behavior forcing her to tell Melissa about the kiss. - After learning that Toby loaned Alison his jacket, Spencer would know that Alison was no longer wearing this jacket during their confrontation. Aria; Byronâs daughter, knows about his affair, and knows how Alison abuses other peopleâs secrets. - Spencer likely witnessed the attack on Bethany but doesnât remember it, because she was âdoing speedâ. (She woke up early and heard a scream.)
Who is coming for Alison? In 610 Aria says âheâs coming for youâ. Emily had a bad dream that Archer is actually alive and coming for Alison. Â
In 513 Jessica (Mary?) says âtheyâll be coming for you soonâ to Alison. Who is coming for Ali? No one.Â
What were Spencer and Wren arguing about in 715 at the airport? âThose bitches took Charlotte away from me. And now theyâre getting everything that they deserve. Iâm honouring her, donât you get that?â said Alex. Wren did not believe that Alexâs games with the liars were entirely driven by wanting justice for Charlotte - Wren believed she was also harassing the girls out of jealousy. They were arguing as to why Alex was harassing the girls, and choosing to stay in Rosewood, rather than going back to London to live together.Â
Why is Ali writing âMrs. Rollinsâ on the board in the flash forward scene of 610? She was writing a list of all the past (and future) identities she has gone by. It was just a dream.
Why was Ali saying âitâs all my fault, this is my punishmentâ in 620? What did she do? She believed that Charlotte wouldn't be dead if she didnât tell her about her relationship with Elliot the night she was killed - Ali telling Charlotte that is what made Charlotte storm out of the house, ultimately leading up to her murder. Ali feels responsible.
How did Mona capture Alex and Mary and take them to France? Mona did not call 911. She called her boyfriend, who was dressed in a police outfit. And together they went to France together, with Alex and Mary.
Have we seen Mary before, prior to 620? Yes. In 423, that was Mary, not Jessica, creeping up on Spencer. She told Peter that she simply wanted to see her beautiful daughter but she was actually in the Hastings house looking for Peterâs pills, to frame Peter for the murder of Jessica she was about to commit.
Why was Mary at the school for the blind in 710? To protect Spencer.
Who was the intended recipient of Jessicaâs email that read âI canât protect you anymore?â Who needed protection, and from what? Mary killed Jessica because she was so angry at Jessica for telling everyone that the Charles grave is real (i.e. that Charles is dead). Jessica said in 610 that she was âprotectingâ Charlotte by telling everyone that Charles died, in the sense that people, especially Ken, would've given her a hard time about the transition. Jessica believed she was helping Charlotte (âI loved him like my own sonâ). However, Jessica made the wrong decision of keeping this a secret from Mary. Charlotteâs mother deserved to know the truth. Jessica knew that Mary is coming for her to get revenge for this huge lie that her child is dead, and so Jessica needed to defend herself when Mary comes for her. She knew that one way she can defend herself is simply by telling her the truth: Charles is not dead, she simply transitioned to become the beautiful Charlotte. So, Jessica sent an email saying âI canât protect you anymoreâ to Charlotte, because Jessica finally had to tell everyone about her existence; that sheâs actually not dead, in order to save her own life (from Mary).
What did Archer and Mary team up to do? Archer fell in love with Charlotte and so he wanted to get back her company (the Carissimi group). Supposedly he married Alison just to do this. Archer called Mary whilst she was in London, and he told her that Charlotte wanted Mary to have her money. As they were both grieving over the loss of a lover/daughter, they helped each other see justice for Charlotte. In 701, AD told Archer that Alison killed Charlotte (thanks to the girls handing her over) and so, to quote Mary, Archer âwanted an eye for an eyeâ. Archer wanted more than justice by taking Charlotteâs money back; Archer wanted to see Ali (Charlotteâs supposed killer) to suffer. Hence all the cruel treatment and violence at Welby. However, Mary wanted out. She did not agree that Alison (her niece) needed to be hurt. Mary told Ali in 707 that Archer was taking it too far and that he needed to stop. Hence they were arguing in 702.Â
What happened to Toby and Yvonne in 710? They hit a deer while driving and were both rushed to hospital. Toby made it alive while Yvonne was put in a medically induced coma. In 713, Yvonne woke up and expressed her happiness with Toby, after getting married to him then and there in hospital.Yvonne surprisingly passed away almost immediately after.Â
Was AD ever giving Mona and Charlotte orders in the earlier seasons, or did AD start the game immediately after Charlotteâs death? No. Alex started the game once Charlotte died.
Why was there a ghost-girl (named Alice) in Hannaâs house in 313? Marlene has actually said this in 2014: I think that will play out, definitely by the time the series ends there will be an answer to that ghost girl. 5 years later we have an answer! That girlâs name is Alice - she is truly a random nobody who accidentally stumbled into the Marin household. We have never seen her since 313 nor will we ever see her again. However, she is important to the story because of what she represents. Alice represents Charlotte - but isnât actually Charlotte. The writers used Alice to foreshadow Charlotteâs story with Ted. Ted was with Ashley when Alice came visiting, but Ted never saw her. âAshley, thereâs no one hereâ. Ted not seeing Alice is a symbol for Ted not knowing Charlotte is his daughter. Alice was trying to find her family (âcan I call my mother?â) and somehow whilst trying to find her family, she came to Ted - this being a symbol that Ted is the father of Charlotte. And, Ted being unable to see her reflects him not knowing he is Charlotteâs father. Itâs a bit of a stretch, and was never made explicitly clear in the show, but honestly, itâs the best weâll ever get.
Did Charlotte know she was adopted? When telling her story in 610, she completely left out the Drakes - was she hiding that, or did she not know? She did not know. We have to assume that everything we have seen is true, because if it wasn't true, we would have been told.Â
What made Jessica think that Ali may be alive? She buried her, yet she launches a lair to go find her? Her niece Charlotte must have told her. Charlotte found out Ali is alive the night of the lodge fire, so shortly after this, must've been when Jessica launched her lair to find Ali.Â
Why did Jessica have a file on each of the girls, and why was Ariaâs file missing from her lair in 7A? She was investigating the girls to find out what happened to her daughter. A.D. took Ariaâs file to use it to blackmail her later in 7B.
In 714, Peter said that Mary buried Jessica. Yet, in 505, Charlotte sent Ali a text saying that she buried her. Who buried Jessica: Mary or Charlotte? Peterâs word canât necessarily be trusted. He knows Mary came into his house to steal his pills to frame him for the murder, but heâs just assuming she is the one who also buried her. Just because Mary killed Jessica, doesnât mean she buried him too. We never actually saw a flashback, so itâs Peterâs word against CeCeâs word (that she buried Mary). Since CeCe actually confessed/admitted to burying Jessica, we can trust CeCeâs word over Peter who has no actual evidence that Mary did it.
Is there a reason we have never seen Bethanyâs face (as an adult)? Even in her drawings, she blurs out her face. No reason. Bethanyâs story finished in 610.Â
Who was Bethany talking about in her recordings at Radley? âSheâs a bitch, an evil bitch. Is it like mother like daughter? Is there anyone in that family I can trust?â Must be about Jessica and Charlotte since they were the only mother and daughter we know about at Radley. Her trust issues stemmed from Jessica ruling Marionâs death a suicide, even though âCharlotteâ supposedly did it (but it was Bethany blaming Charlotte).
Who gave Ali the bloody lip in a season 3 flashback? Marlene said in this interview:Â âduring that episode and Aliâs life, she was really taunting the girls about these older people she was hanging out with, sort of a bad crowd. In the writers room we never said specifically who it was, but in our minds, it was that group of people. She was trying to make the PLLs jealous, she was hanging out with older people, probably Charlotte and college kids, the same group of kids who threw the poor girl down the stairs. It lives in that world.â
Is Alison really pregnant? Yes, she had twins.Â
Who was the British person calling Archerâs phone in 7A saying ânext time you bury someone, make sure theyâre deadâ? That was Wren. He was Alexâs helper. Or, it couldâve been Alex herself with a male-voice filter. Either of the two.
Who knows that Spencer is a Drake, and why was this kept a secret for so long? Spencerâs parents (Peter and Mary) obviously knew and so did Jessica and Veronica. It was kept a secret because they didnât want Spencer to feel unloved and frightened by her past.Â
Who bought Tobyâs house? Alex Drake. She is in love with Toby and she planned to use this as a prison to keep Spencer in.
When did Mary meet Alex? Mary gave birth to Alex so Mary always knew Alex existed - however, Mary found out that Alex is in Rosewood, rather than with her rich family in Britain she sold her to - during the finale, when Alex visits her to break her out of prison (Mona helped with that, hence she got the coordinates of Alexâs location in return).Â
Who was Beach Hottie? Wilden. Charlotte has told us throughout season 3 that Ali thought Wilden was âhotâ (hence asked him to go on his boat) and also she thought Wilden got Ali pregnant. And then, CeCe killed Wilden because he would have never let Ali come home to tell her story; that she was involved with him. Wilden couldâve been charged as a rapist if Ali came home alive. Further, in 620, the writers put Ali and Wilden in bed together (although it was Archer in a Wilden mask, but itâs the symbolism that counts). The fact that Ali kept this relationship a secret from even CeCe, her best friend at the time, means it must be someone pretty serious or troublesome like a police officer. Marlene confirmed Beach Hottie is Wilden in this interview. Although it is not confirmed in the show, there are clues to support it, it does make sense, and Marlene did say it outside of the show too. (In 4x24, Ali said that she never had sex with Ezra, so we can rule out Ezra as Beach Hottie.)
Why did AD have a box in their lair (706) saying Letters from AD? And, in 715, A.D. had a box labelled âCharlotteâ. Whatâs in these boxes? Alex was keeping all of Charlotteâs things, since she loved her and was avenging her death. âLetters from ADâ was Charlotteâs box, containing all her letters from Charlotte. (Evidence in the fact that there was also a box in the lair reading âCharlotteâs booksâ - so, Alex had all of Charlotteâs belongings.) Alex and Charlotte were keeping in contact via letters.
Why did Jessica get so mad when she found out about the prank Ali and CeCe pulled, that CeCe was at Radley - CeCe was already a patient there? Jessica didnât want Ali getting closer to CeCe, especially in Radley, because CeCe might tell Ali her story. Jessica wanted to keep that a secret.
Why did Ali âchooseâ the girls... for what? To be her friends. Being a part of Alisonâs clique is a treat, not a right. You had to earn it. And these girls did. Alison saw something in each of them.
Is Ali actually reformed, or is she the same girl she was in high school, putting on an act for some ulterior motive? No one is the same person they were in high school, as highlighted by 7x11. Sheâs not the same person, according to Emily.Â
âLord help the mister who comes between me and my sisterâ - who is this about? We have to assume it was about her and Ali. That was what her whole story revolved around: being disconnected from her family, due to her transphobic father. Since she used the word âsisterâ instead of âcousinâ, we can also assume that Charlotte did not know about Mary, let alone that she is adopted. (Iâll update if this turns out to be wrong, but for now, I think this is the best that we have.)
What has Melissa been protecting Spencer from âsince before it startedâ? And how has she been doing this? She sent Jenna and Shana to watch Spencer and her friends at the lodge. Melissa says she did that to find out who Spencer was going to meet (if it is Ali - because if Ali is alive, then Melissa knows she buried someone else), but she probably also did it to keep an eye on Spencer. So, we can assume Melissa has been protecting Spencer from danger.
Was Melissaâs broken suit-case handle actually the weapon used to kill Charlotte or was that AD planting fake evidence? Melissaâs suitcase handle was entirely a red herring. The real murder âweaponâ was a piece of metal in the bell tower which Mona accidentally pushed Charlotte onto, cracking her skull.
What is Wrenâs involvement in all of this? He stumbled upon Alex in a bar in London and he fell in love with her.
Why did Charlotte need a visitorâs pass to see Mona if sheâs already a patient at Radley? Charlotte was not a patient at Radley anymore at that time. She needed some way to get in. Melissa told CeCe that Mona is in Radley, so CeCe asked Wren to authorise her visits. She was not a patient that can just sneak into the room next door.
How did Charlotte go to college and know everyone at Eric Kahnâs party if she were a Radley patient for most of her upbringing? The Radley Board granted her permission to attend classes at U-Penn, because she proved to them how smart she is (she was studying and reading every day at Radley). She would run off to some parties before being forced to go back to Radley.
Why did Charlotte dress up as a man in a tux in the dollhouse if she wants to forget her past? If she dressed up as a female, she would be telling Spencer that her theories of A being a male named Charles are incorrect, therefore increasing the chances of her getting caught. CeCe decided sheâs better off just wearing a tux and confirm Spencerâs thoughts of A being a dude, rather than be true to herself by wearing a dress but disproving Spencerâs theory. It essentially came down to if she wanted to get caught or not, and obviously she will choose not getting caught as A, instead of staying true to her gender for 2 temporary minutes.
How was Charlotte listed as prom queen if she was a patient at Radley? Apparently itâs super easy to get in the Rosewood High yearbook - you just rock up to photo-day.Â
âWeâre not having the same problems again, are we Eddie?â said Wren. Then Eddie said âfrom the minute that guy got here, it wasnât for the right reasonsâ. What is going on between Wren and Eddie? Mona was under very strict supervision: no visitors whatsoever. Wren was breaking these rules, as he authorised CeCe to visit Mona. Eddie knew Wren was doing breaking the rules. This poses the question however: why did Wren authorise Charlotte to visit Mona if she wasnât allowed visitors?
âWe have a problem, you take care of your end and Iâll take care of my endâ said Wren last time we saw him. Who was he talking to and what was this problem? Most likely Alex. Their problem was probably something along the lines of disagreeing as to whether or not they should stay in London or live in Rosewood. Who knows.
Who was the British (maybe Australian) person that Mary was talking to on the phone in 701? It was not Archer as he had been rejecting his calls for 2 days. Most likely Alex. She admitted that she knew about Alex (well, she would have to... she gave birth to her). But maybe Wren.
Who were the man and woman voices we heard trying to throw Aria off the Halloween train? Jason was the male voice: he was the one Aria stabbed, evident in his hip wound. Melissa was the female voice: she was trying to protect Spencer and her friends from harm that night on the train.
Why was Jason trying to throw Aria off the train? It was Wilden who put Aria in the box, however Jason and Melissa didnât know Aria was in the box. Jason and Melissa were taking orders from Wilden; to throw Garretâs dead body off the train (Wilden killed Garret and ordered Jason and Melissa to 'destroyâ the evidence). Remember, everyone was afraid of Wilden, perhaps due to his police authorities and frightening demeanour. Jason and Melissa had to do as told, and they didnât know Aria was in there. I quote Melissa from 404Â âwe didnât know about hurting youâ.Â
Melissa tells Spencer in 404 that someone was giving Wilden orders to be on the train and hurt the girls. Who was giving him these orders and why? Since we know Wilden was the Queen of Hearts that drugged Aria and killed Garret, we can safely assume Wilden was the black hoodie that received the bullets and drugs from Mona in Radley at the beginning of 313. Mona was telling Wilden to be on the train - the whole events of the Halloween train were orchestrated by Mona. She loves a good scare.
Why did Jason follow Lucas on the Halloween train? In the webisodes that took place between 3x12 and 3x13, Lucas gives Mona an envelope. Later in 3B, Lucas tells Hanna that the envelope was from Jason, which implies that Lucas was the one who Jason gave the reward money to. This explains why Jason was hanging around Mona; he thought that she would lead him to who stole the body from the grave.
What happened the night of the lodge fire? Melissa sent Jenna and Shana to keep an eye on Spencer and also to find out who Spencer was going to meet - potentially Alison. Melissa needed to know if Ali is alive, because if she is, that means she buried an innocent person, and she may begin to see the repercussions of that.  Melissaâs orders to protect Spencer and see if Ali is alive went in one ear and out the other, because little did Melissa know, that Jenna and Shana had their own agenda: kill Alison. Jenna and Shana were pretending to accept Melissaâs orders out of fear, as Mona confirmed in 401 (âtheyâre both afraid of Melissaâ). Shana lit the fire thinking Alison is inside, thinking sheâs getting justice for The Jenna Thing (on behalf of Jenna whom she fell in love with). Wilden was with Jenna and Shana, as he too wanted Ali dead because if Ali came home alive, he will get in trouble for doing dirty work as a cop (accepting Jessicaâs bribery money to stay quiet on Charlotte hitting Ali). So Charlotte killed Wilden, for Aliâs sake, and her own sake, as Wilden will throw Charlotte under the bus for Aliâs âmurderâ. Melissa told Spencer in 404 that âJenna and Shana didnât light the fire, it was Wilden, they saw himâ. Jenna and Shana played Melissa like a fool: they were the ones to light the fire, but theyâre blaming the dead guy to save their own assess.Â
Who hit Toby over the head at the lodge fire in 323? Jenna. A few episodes later in 4A, she said to Emily âtell Toby I never meant to hurt himâ. She was protecting him by ensuring he doesnât find out if Ali is alive, because as Jenna said, it seems everyone that knows about Ali is waking up dead.
Why does Rollins want to avenge Charlotteâs death? They were in love. Confirmed in 620 and again in 706.
Why was Rollins seducing Ali before Charlotte had even died? Charlotte lost control of all of that money to Jason and Ali once she was admitted to Welby, so he had to seduce Ali, marry her, and then run off with Charlotte. But then Charlotte died and the plan turned to avenging her death. (thanks chrisfrancis1210)Â
Why did Alison say she wants masks made for all of her friends so that they can look like her? Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer never even received these masks - but A has them. How? Typical Marlene response: Ali wanted the girls to look like her, itâs that simple.
Who was the Black Swan at the masquerade ball? Mona sent Melissa the Black Swan costume, instructing her to wear it to the masquerade ball. Her task was to distract Jenna. Because Mona knew that Melissa was highest on the girlsâ A-suspect list, Mona wanted them to suspect Melissa even more, which they would, if she were hanging around Jenna the whole night. Meanwhile, Mona can spy on the girls and do all she wants for the rest of the night, stress-free of being on the suspect list too.Â
Who let Noel go whilst Hanna had him tied up in 710? He let himself go by ripping through the ties. The writers did have a mini scene showing Noel getting angry, pulling on the ties. I think this was supposed to be our answer.Â
Why was Jessica still cleaning Aliâs bed sheets if she buried her and thought she was dead? She didnât think Ali is dead as she launched a lair to investigate Aliâs whereabouts, after Charlotte would have told her that Ali is alive around the time of the lodge fire.
Why did Mona say she became A because the girls stole Hanna from her, when it was precisely her texts that made her lose Hanna? Essentially, not only did the girls allow Alison to bully Mona, but the discovery of Aliâs body in the pilot brought the girls back to Rosewood, and the thought of the girls being reunited scared Mona. Therefore, she began texting them under the alias of A in order to scare them and keep them apart. This backfired, and she lost Hanna as a result of becoming A. More info here.
Why are we only hearing of Mary Drake six seasons later? Where has she been all this time and why has she come back now? Spencer asked Mary in 701 what brings her back to Rosewood, and Mary replied âI found out Jessica is deadâ.
What did Jenna and Sara team up to do? To find Charlotteâs killer, as confirmed by Sara. âAll weâre doing is looking for the same thing as you are.â Confirmed in 706. However, they also want to hurt the girls, as they are responsible for Jennaâs blinding and Saraâs paralysed hands.
Why do Sara and Jenna care about Charlotteâs death? Charlotte promised Jenna a ânew pair of eyesâ. Sara was probably just doing it to help Jenna, since they had something to bond over (both having sustained damage as a result of something the liars have done - burnt hands and damaged eyes).
Sara was hinting to Emily that someone is dangerous in 706 - who is Sara talking about? Noel Kahn. He wanted some of Charlotteâs money and was willing to do anything to take it back. Noel even planned on killing Jenna and Sara so that he can have more of the money without sharing it - Sara began to get suspicious of these intentions hence she made this comment about someone being dangerous.
Who was buried first: Alison or Bethany? Bethany was buried after Alison because Melissa pushed Bethany in an already caved grave, which Jessica caved for Alison first.Â
Jenna says she met Charlotte at the hospital during the 5 year break, yet in 4A Shana told Spencer that Jenna is scared of CeCe. Whatâs the truth: when did Jenna and Charlotte meet? Jenna did not know that CeCe is Charlotte.Â
Who killed Bethany? Mona physically hit Bethany with the shovel, thinking it was Alison. However, as per Alisonâs (Bethanyâs) autopsy report, the actual cause of death was suffocation. So, Bethany died not from Monaâs bashing, but from Melissa burying her. Melissa buried Bethany to protect Spencer, as she thought Spencer hurt Ali.Â
Did Alison know Bethany? Were those letters real? Nope, we are lead to believe that they were fake and were planted by Charlotte as a way for the girls to suspect Ali as A and to get Ali in prison, ultimately, to keep her in Rosewood.
Where has Wren been since season 4, when we last saw him? In London.
Why was Wren colouring in a red coat? He likes the colour red and enjoys drawing.Â
Is there a reason Eddie recognised Aria at Radley, or was that just a friendly coincidence? He recognised her because Aria was visiting Spencer in Radley in 3B. He had probably seen her face as she was signing in to see Spencer. Itâs not something to worry about.
Why did Melissa tell Charlotte that Mona is in Radley? Melissa believed that Charlotte would serve as a good role model for Mona, and help her truly get better. That may pose the question: why did Melissa care that Mona gets better?Â
What was going on between Wren and Mona? They had trust issues (âthat was before I realised where your loyalties areâ). Mona knew that Wren broke the rules and allowed CeCe to visit him.Â
Who was in Jasonâs house in season 2? We saw a shadow through the window and tissues with blood in his trashcan.Â
Who was Jessica hiding at Aunt Carolâs house? Mary was in the house. Mary had just learned that Charles is âdeadâ and was begging Jessica to tell her why. Jessica replied âyou gave birth, but he was my sonâ, so Jessica was hiding from Mary the fact that Charles transitioned.
Who attacked Ali at Halloween in 213? Must have been Lucas. âOne day sheâll get whatâs coming to herâ.Â
Why was Alison hooking up with Detective Holbrook? Ali wanted to keep closer tabs in the investigation regarding her and Bethany Youngâs murder. It was kind of like spying, and self-defence.Â
Why did Mona help Ali fake her death, if she was the A harassing her? Mona thought she âkilledâ Alison. She didnât find out it was actually Bethany until Charlotte confessed to hitting Ali in 610. So, when Mona saw an alive Alison wandering the streets after she just âhitâ her, she wanted to make herself look innocent to Ali. Helping her would come across as âOMG who did this to you!? Let me help you!â ... little did Mona know, she was innocent to begin with. Further, Mona wanted Ali to disappear. Thatâs why she was A: to harass Ali. By encouraging her to run away and stay away, she gets what she wanted: an Ali-free world. âLet A think youâre deadâ was all an act.
Marlene tweeted during 6B that there might be more to Mayaâs storyline. Letâs see what this is about. In the series finale we met Mayaâs niece.
What was it that âMaya Knewâ? Maya knew that Nate, her stalker from True North, is back in town.Â
Who killed Maya? Her stalker from True North, Lyndon James (Nate St Germain). Thatâs who was sending Maya disturbing texts throughout season 2.
Where is Eddie Lamb? He disappeared after delivering Bethanyâs paintings in 5A. Marlene said: Eddie left town. Heâs like âI gotta get out of hereâ. He is alive. Heâs a nice person. He did favours for people at Radley, he didnt want to get into trouble, so he just left town. (Source)
Why was Bethany drawing Jessica as a devil? Because Jessica had an affair with her father.
Who put the knives in Jakeâs punching bag? Marlene has confirmed that this was Charlotte. Itâs pretty random. Poor Jake.
Who was Seth-baby talking about in 224, in regards to a man and a woman wanting to hurt Ali? We have to assume that Mona paid Seth to lie about who bought the dolls. Mona trained him as to how to react when the girls come visiting.Â
Why were members of the NAT club slowing being killed as Emily highlighted in 313? Itâs a coincidence that they were members of the NAT club. They werenât being killed BECAUSE they are NAT.
Did Sara Harvey really have Emilyâs best interest at heart, like she claims in 706? Is she a villain or not? I believe she did care about Emily. We may never get an answer to this since she is dead, but I believed Saraâs motive was entirely to get a share of Charlotteâs money. Sara needed it since she had run away from home (revealed in 6A). If we get a better answer, I will change this, but for now, I think we have to go with this.
Why was Sara staying in CeCeâs old room at The Radley hotel? What was she looking for and why did she have that huge hole in the wall? Marlene confirmed that Sara was looking for a âpot of goldâ which Sara thought was money, but in reality, it was the Mary Drake file. (Source)
Jason said he saw Charlotte talking to Melissa that night. In 319, Charlotte confirmed this (saying Ali asked her to talk to Melissa about finding the NAT videos). Then later in 610, she denies speaking to Melissa, claiming Jason saw Bethany. Which is true, and why does Charlotte keep changing her story? The latter is true: it was Bethany. Iâm always going with the more recent reveal, because the more recent something is, the more likely the writers revised and updated their answer. Theyâre not likely to go from old to new then back to old. But they can go from old to new. But I guess weâll never know for sure.
When Charlotte was A, did she love Ali or not? Yes she did. âIâm not a bad person Aliâ and âI love all of my dolls. Thatâs why youâre still aliveâ. Radley just made her loose touch with reality.
Why were Jenna and Shana having secretive meetings in 4A? Marlene confirmed on Twitter than Jenna knew Alison was alive, and she felt scared holding that information, because A was going to come after her to find her. (This is new information - unfortunately, itâs not said in the actual show.)
Why was Ali in Spencerâs backyard in 507 in a hoodie? She was going to meet Cyrus, to forcing him to confess to having kidnapped her in exchange for a passport to flee the country.
Why even tell us that Andrew is adopted? To fuel the fire to the theories that he is Charles/Maryâs other child. This show is full of red herrings.
Why did Lucas and Jenna go to prom together? Are they together? For a short time, yes, since they went to prom, they must have been together.
Why did Leslie have so many pairs of glasses in 6A? She keeps spare glasses in her car so that she can see the amount of stupid answers Iâm having to input here.Â
Who was the blonde girl that Spencer saw in Aliâs house in the pilot? Alison. She was alive. Marlene has confirmed that throughout the series, whenever the girls thought they were seeing Ali, it really was her.
Why did Wilden say in the pilot âRest assured, I will find out what happened that summerâ if he already knew Charlotte âkilledâ Ali (Jessica paid him to stay quiet)? In the early seasons, Wilden is desperate to pin Aliâs murder on someone. He illegally searched Hanna's things and Emily's bag in the library and he also questioned Hanna and tried to make her say that she was jealous of Alison. He wasnât looking for Alisonâs killer, rather he was looking for someone to take the blame for it, so that no one will find out what he did (accept Jessicaâs money to stay quiet on Charlotte hitting Ali).Â
Why is Sydney Driscol still in the show? To expand Jennaâs storyline and to make us think Jenna has a twin. This show is famous for red herrings; not everything has a meaning. Later in 7B, she revealed that she lost contact with Jenna after high school and sheâs scared of her because her games are too dangerous. Yet, that was contradicted when she revealed herself to be one of A.D.âs minions.Â
Who was the fourth person to the picnic with Jenna, Sydney and Mona in 505, and what were they discussing? We have to assume Melissa.
What is Aliâs sexuality? As of 715, she never labelled herself as gay, however she did admit her strong feelings towards Emily. In the finale she proposes to Emily.Â
What was Rhys Matthewsâ purpose in the show? They went through a lot of effort to cast a Jason-look-alike and within 2 episodes he was totally gone. To make us think he is Charles. He was the most boring, random, useless red herring ever. Itâs stupid that the writers thought we would honestly believe he is Charles... a 5 year mystery would be summarised by a person we met 2 episodes before the reveal? Nice joke, Marlene.
Who put the âChandelierâs Rituals, sister launched lair, A rulerâs list chainedâ note in Monaâs room? Marlene tweeted in January 2017 that Mona was trying to crack Aâs anagram. Therefore, it was an anagram that Charlotte gave to her.Â
âYou know me Spencer, you killed meâ. Who sent this to Spencer and why? Is it linked to the blood Noel poured on Spencer in the dollhouse? CeCe was trying to make Spencer think that she killed Ali. Mind games. This continued in the dollhouse when CeCe got Noel to poor âbloodâ on Spencer.
Who put the vials of blood in Spencerâs bag in London? Wren? It couldnât have been Charlotte. Must have been Alex. Marlene said that Charlotte was not letting Alex come to Rosewood, and once Spencer was finally in London, Alex had an opportunity to harass her.Â
Who is Cyrus Petrillo and what is he doing in the show? He is the man that Alison tricked into taking the fall for Alisonâs kidnapping story.Â
Why were Jenna and Noel at a school for the blind in 710? According to Jenna in 712, that was a school that Jenna used to attend, and Noel had taken her there to get rid of her.Â
Who is Varjack? Charlotte.Â
What was in the envelope that Mike gave Cyrus in 519? The vials of blood of the girls.
âOne of you has been touched by the one Alison feared the mostâ. Who is this about? Aria and CeCe literally just touched 30 seconds ago when Aria was trying to pull CeCe up from falling off the high-ledge. The camera even deliberately zoomed in to Aria and CeCeâs grip.
Did the twin-story that Ali told in 212Â actually happen between Mary and Jessica? Technically yes but actually no. Mary killed Jessica by using Peterâs pills. Although Mary didnât stab her sister like in Aliâs story, it is pretty close to the story of a twin killing another.
Was the Radley car outside the DiLaurentis home in 212 for Mary? No. Mary killed Jessica in 4B, not back then in 2008 (showâs timeline). I guess it was just paying homage to the Sanitarium which will later become the core of the show.
How did Emily get to Aliâs open grave that night? Jenna drove her. She was working with Charlotte (and now that sheâs dead she wants to avenge her death).Â
CeCe said in 610 that âmum didnât know CeCe was Charlotte until the day we left for Cape Mayâ. How did Jessica not realise that this CeCe person is her niece, since she used the surname Drake? Jessica practically allowed incest? Jessica did not know CeCeâs last name. Jason introduced her as âthis is CeCeâ. If Jessica knew her last name was Drake, she definitely would have been suspicious.Â
Marlene said Ian did commit suicide. Why? The answer is rather intricate, which can be read here in great detail. However to summarise it, Ian was about to serve jail time as a rapist, kidnapper, child pornographer and attempted manslaughter (of Spencer). As if that wasnât bad enough, he therefore wouldnât be able to raise his baby that Melissa was pregnant with. He couldnât just run away either, because his injuries from the rope in the bell tower would have been incredibly painful, and he canât go to a hospital or else he would be turning himself in. Hence, things werenât going as good as first met the eye, and so he made the decision to end his own life.Â
What was Peter and Jessicaâs âunderstandingâ from 424? The police were asking pointed questions about Spencer, and Peter wanted to be sure that Jessica would not reveal the truth about Spencer: that she is her sister, Maryâs, daughter.
What was in those boxes in 525 that made Peter Hastings get nervous especially when Ezra said âyour secrets are in there tooâ? Either that Spencer is a Drake, or the simple existence of Mary Drake. Perhaps in Ezraâs research he found records/files on all Radley patients; Mary included.
Hector Lime said that âAli wanted masks made for all her friendsâ. Why did the liars never receive these masks, and why did Ali want them made? âAli wanted masks made so that all her friends can look like herâ said Hector. Thatâs the best explanation we have.
Why did Melissa have a horse-riding helmet at the stable Jessica took Bethany to? Did Melissa ever come across Bethany and Jessica there? No, Melissa didnât. Marlene confirmed the day after the finale that the only thing Melissa is guilty of is killing Bethany Young (she died of suffocation even though Mona hit her with the rock). It was just a happy coincidence.
What was on Jennaâs laptop in 706 in her âCharlotte DiLaurentisâ folder? Does Jenna know more about Charlotteâs murder than letting on? Jenna said she provided âElliotâ with a new passport and identity so that she can be with Charlotte. We will never find out what was in that folder - itâs not like theyâll go back to the computer and open it! But, we can assume it was the files for this identity swap. Or even, the files that Jenna used to find out about Charlotte; Jenna said she read about Charlotte being in Welby, from a newspaper.
Who was the mysterious blonde with Mona, watching Hanna through the glass whilst she was getting a hair makeover in 5A? Someone from her army; not a character we know.Â
What did Aria whisper to Mona in the movie theatre in 511 that made her so upset? âYouâre not welcome in this family. My dad still hates you for what you did to me. Donât get too comfortable with Mikeâ. Although not explicitly stated that those are the exact words, if you re-watch, we know it is something along those lines. Mona says to Aria âyou know right where to insert the knife and twist itâ, implying it was something nasty. Then she says âyouâre rightâ (implying she agreed with what Aria said) - âyour dad should hate me after all the things Iâve done to youâ. This was Ariaâs attempt to break up Mike and Mona, because Aria felt she was too dangerous for her brother.
Why did Charlotte push Jenna in the lake in 409? Jenna held the precious information that Alison is alive, as confirmed by Marlene on Twitter the night of 610. She probably learnt this a few episodes ago at the lodge fire. Charlotte was scared that Jenna would tell people this, and Charlotte needed to keep Jenna quiet in order to bring Ali home safely. (If the whole town knew Ali is alive, Ali may run away and never come home.)Â
Who pushed the girl down the stairs at the frat party? Noel Khan. This resulted in CeCe being kicked out of college.
Charlotte, Jenna and Noel exchange awkward eye contact in Truth or Dare in 309, and then in 7A, Jenna and Noel are avenging Charlotteâs death. How do they all know each other and how close are they? Jenna and Noel knew each other from high school, as they dated for a while. Jenna met Charlotte during the 5 year time jump, when she reached out to Charlotte in the hospital after reading about her in the paper. Noel on the other hand, met Charlotte through his brother Eric, as Charlotte knew Eric at the Kahn party in 309. Noel and Charlotteâs friendship continued in 501, through Alison. Noel drove Charlotte to the airport so she can flee the country after killing Wilden; they worked together as a team then, in the dollhouse, and even now in season 7 when Noel is avenging Charlotteâs death.
Who dug Alisonâs grave in 301? Charlotte. She wanted to know if Ali is alive considering the circumstances: she hit her with the rock and she watched Jessica bury her, yet she was seeing a blonde in a red coat wandering around town. So, CeCe began suspecting that Ali may be alive and she wanted to know for sure, hence she dug open the grave.
Why was Peter urging Spencer to stay the hell away from Jessica DiLaurentis in 414? Because the closer Spencer gets to Jessica, the more likely Spencer is to find out about Mary, and therefore her connection to the Drakes.
Why did Ali say that telling the truth to the wrong person at the wrong time is how I ended up where I am? Ali was very bitchy in high school. She spoke her mind. She told someone the âtruthâ even when they didnât need it; for example, that Mona is a nerd. Alison believed that A tried to hit her with the rock that night, and she believed A was someone who wanted revenge. Hence, telling the truth; that is, BULLYING, is how she ended up âdeadâ. Itâs what Alison thought. Thereâs a difference between someoneâs position to think something, versus what actually happened. In this instance, Ali was in every way convinced that A was someone coming after her for her high school bullying.
Why did Ali react with shock to seeing the painting at the funeral-arrangement place in 503? We already have this answer but Iâm including it here because Iâve seen lots of people ask it: Cyrus also had this painting in his basement where he physically assaulted her, and so seeing this painting brought back those memories with Cyrus. This was confirmed in a flashback which clearly showed Cyrus having this same painting as we saw in 503.
Who was Charlotte giving a bunch of flowers to in the A ending scene of 523? Noel, because he was in the dollhouse with her.
Who was that at the end of 401 wearing the burnt Alison mask from the lodge fire? Sara Harvey. She was at the lodge fire in 324, and got burnt in her red coat whilst helping CeCe distract the girls by making them think they are seeing Alison. As we saw in 401, Toby found Saraâs red coat burnt and destroyed. Hence, Sara moved onto the Black Veil costume at Wildenâs funeral (under CeCeâs orders to ensure that Wilden really is dead). She was seen at the end still wearing her burnt Ali mask but in her new costume instead of the red coat.
Who killed Wilden and why? Charlotte killed Wilden because he would never allow Alison to come home alive, as he accepted bribe money from Jessica to keep quiet on who âkilledâ Alison (Charlotte by throwing the rock). He was a really dirty cop and Wilden would need to kill Alison to save his own ass. Hence Charlotte killed him, to protect Alison, but also herself: she was the one who hit Ali and Wilden was going to tell.
Who killed Garret and why? Although not explicitly said in the show, Marlene has confirmed that Wilden killed Garret because he knew what Wilden did that night: accept bribe money to lie about what happened to Alison.
Who killed Maya? Lyndon James, her stalker from True North. He loved her and could never have her because she was with Emily. This was seen throughout 2B where Maya kept receiving texts from someone which clearly was bothering her. Unfortunately she never opened up to Emily about these texts.
Who killed Marion Cavanaugh? Bethany Young. Marlene admitted that this is controversial however it is the truth. (22:30)
Who was wearing the Alison mask on the Halloween train? Mona. She said to Hanna âto think we were this close to our first kiss.â
Who were the Queen of Hearts on the Halloween train? Melissa confirmed in 404 that Wilden was the one who tried to kill Spencer, whilst she had the same costume. She was there to spy on Wilden, to protect Spencer.
Who was CeCe talking to on the phone in 411? âWhere are you? I sure as hell am not going back to Rosewoodâ. Ali, because very next episode, the two worked together in Ravenswood. CeCe was asking if Ali is in Ravenswood, ready to execute their plan together.
Who wrote âtold everythingâ in Aliâs prison cell after she wrote âMonaâ (leaving the message âMona told everythingâ)? Probably Charlotte. She was trying to tell Alison that Mona had painted her as A. âAlison is A, and now I can prove it.â Charlotte was trying to tell her cousin that the girls are not on her side anymore.
Is there a twin in the series, like in the books? Mary Drake is the identical twin to Jessica DiLaurentis.
When Jessica told Holbrook that she is certain Alison is in that grave, was she doing this to protect herself or Alison? Both. She knew Alison is alive (she was searching for her) but she didnât want the cops to start looking for her too as that might scare Ali away. By saying Ali is dead, Jessica is also saving herself (âcase-closedâ sort of thing)Â because she buried her.
Did Mary or Jessica bury Alison? Jessica, to protect Charlotte.
Who shot Ezra when he showed up in New York to protect the Liars? Shana. She was A in 424 and 501, trying to kill Ali to get justice for The Jenna Thing (Shana fell in love with Jenna).Â
Who turned in CeCe to the police at the A ending scene of 423 and why? Shana. She and Jenna were friends with Wilden (evident in them coming to Wildenâs rescue right after Ashley ran him over with the car) and they wanted to avenge his death by arresting the one responsible. Shana knows it was CeCe who killed their friend Wilden, because CeCe killed him the night of the lodge fire, and Jenna and Shana were there too. They must have seen her do it.Â
Who nearly killed Jason in the elevator at his fatherâs apartment building? That was Charlotte. When Charlotte gets mad, she sometimes acts out in very strong and harsh ways. I donât think the intention was to kill Jason. It was definitely an impulsive act of revenge. (Source)
If Ali saved Hanna from the Thornhill Lodge fire, who saved the other girls? Sara Harvey. (Source)
Who kidnapped Emily, put her in a coffin, and chained her to a sawmill conveyer belt? That was Charlotte. The PLLs were getting close to discovering Charlotteâs identity at that time, so that was a real âlisten to meâ kind of a moment. (Source)
Who drove a car into Emilyâs house? That was Charlotte, but to quote Charlotte, âNobody got hurt. (Source)
Who blew up Tobyâs house? That was Charlotte. She was very mad. But no one got hurt! She has perfect timing. Sheâs a genius. (Source)
Who knocked Jenna unconscious and left her to drown? That was Charlotte because Jenna knew Ali was alive. Thatâs something we have not discussed on the show so thatâs totally new information. (Source)
Whose body was in the barrel that the Liars found in a storage unit (and originally thought was Monaâs? Charlotte stole a cadaver from a medical school. (Source)
Who put snakes in Spencerâs dressing room? Charlotte. Charlotte was very busy. (Source)
Who put finger bones in the girlsâ wedding dresses at the fashion show? Charlotte. I think Charlotte wanted you to think they were Bethanyâs bones, but Charlotte has access to bodies and bones. Medical school corpses is what she has used occasionally on the show. (Source)
Who left a message in Hannaâs teeth? Charlotte. That was very invasive, very creepy. (Source)
To whom and why was Melissa mouthing âdo it, just do itâ in 510? Cyrus. Melissa was a part of Monaâs army, and was one of the many people who wanted to bring down Ali and her fake kidnapping story. âDo it, trust me, just do itâ was Melissa saying âtell the truth, you never kidnapped herâ. This is what makes Spencer decide to cut ties with Ali; so many people are working to poke holes in her kidnapping story that the liars don't want to be a part of it anymore because the truth is about to come out. Melissa was playing a role in bringing out this truth.
Why did Ali tell Spencer in 323 that âyou didnât even know me when you knew me?â  Because Ali is Spencerâs cousin - Spencer didnât know that major secret about their own relationship.
How does Garrett know who took the body, and how does he know âitâs not overâ in 301? Because Jenna was there that night, she picked up Emily. Jenna must have told Garret what happened since we know Jenna and Garret were connected. His theory about who took the body must have been wrong; no one knew that was CeCe.
Whoâs medical records was Garret talking about? Amongst all the awesome theories that Garret was talking about Spencer being a Drake, the odds are that he was probably talking about Jenna being able to see again, or Melissa not actually being pregnant. The latter is more likely, as he was involved with Melissa - that is something he would know, whereas Jenna was hiding her sight from everyone.Â
Who was the blonde girl at the zoo in 420? CeCe probably let out her decoy, Sara Harvey.
Who sent Emily the text in 301 reading âI bet you remember meâ? Doesnât sound like Charlotte, given they had never met at this point. Charlotte wanted Emily to think that Ali is alive, since Charlotte had dug open Aliâs grave.
Who called Emilyâs phone the night she was at Aliâs grave? Charlotte, to provide more evidence that the girls were there that night (to frame them).Â
Why was Peter Hastings so determined to shut down Radley? To erase records of his affair with Mary, which would protect Spencer from learning about her truth.
Why didnât Mona tell the girls that Ali is alive all this time? Why keep that a secret? It might ruin the group dynamics again.
Who was Jenna talking to at the park in unmAsked? Shana. Remember, Mona said that Jenna knew Shana BEFORE Ali sent her to Rosewood to ask questions. So, itâs not a plot hole that Jenna and Shana were speaking way before Ali sent Shana.
What was Jenna doing there the night Aliâs grave was dug up? Jenna says she saw Emily at the dead of the night in the edge of the town, drunk, crying and talking about Maya. Not wanting to leave her there, she put Emily in her car and decided to take her home -- at least to the end of her street, but Emily freaked out and jumped out of the car around 12:00 or 12:30. She thought Emily was so messed up that night that she wouldn't remember seeing her.Â
In 521, why did Veronica call Spencer and tell her to come home from London ASAP... what did she find in Alisonâs file? Veronica feared that Alison was going to name her accomplice as Spencer.
Why did Ali take those personal photos of Aria in season 2? For fun. Maybe it was Jason, since he loves Aria and her pink hair, and he was blaming Ali because she was âdeadâ and couldnât defend herself. Weâll never know.Â
Who was Toby building a new house for? Spencer, even though he was engaged to Yvonne...
On Truth Up Day, who wrote âI know who killed Alison DiLaurentisâ on the wall? Jenna, as she was standing right there looking at it. Garret made Jenna think he did it when he hit the tree instead of Ali. Jenna was wrong; Garret didnât do it, but itâs what she thought.
Why did the NAT club members say that âthese videos can bring us all down?â What was in the videos? The videos made them all look guilty. Ian was seeing an underage girl (could be seen as a rapist) whilst the others were in Aliâs (a âdeadâ girl!) bedroom the night she âdisappearedâ. It just wouldnât look good for any of them if these videos leaked.
