ok so haven't finished but my thoughts from a few years back are still the same today:
my problems with the romance:
- star and tom should have broken up a while ago so that it was less sudden, or not have gotten back together at all
- star and marco should have broken the blood moon curse a while ago so that there weren't so many people going "ah ah ah everything between them was because of the blood moon curse!" and/or the blood moon curse was literally just their souls bonded and didn't actually invoke any romance (which is heavily implied but unfortunately it does need to be spelled out)
- marco and kelly should have never been a thing, kelly should have learned some self-love instead of rebounding. this also could have been a great way to show how marco differentiated his appreciation for a friend (kelly) versus how his feelings for star have changed into a more romantic one
- marco and star's romantic relationship should have been developed way more but instead they focused that into tom and star for no reason, it was so cute seeing marco or star pining over each other/fawning over each other in the romantic sense but they barely show that, and that's why the shifts from platonic to romantic are so jarring
- i like tom outside of star, i wish that all the side characters still had some form of plot importance even after the main characters were no longer romantically involved with them
- star should have been queen, she should not have suddenly had the realization to destroy all magic. i thought that, narratively, it would have made more sense to be queen of not just mewni but all magic. like magicka madoka. but maybe not right away, it could have been when she grew up kinda thing (like anne from amphiba, except it's when she dies), since star had soooo many great learning moments when it came to leading, except at the VERY end when she decides to just kill magic
- eclipsa was handled great except i feel that there were a few things that were pretty messed up, like how her lover literally ate some of her people before dating her... that's janked. i do think instead of redemption, she could have just went with what she always did and continue to commit necessary evils for herself/her family after realizing she was centuries behind and her people hated her, which would have made her the "big bad" of the series but i think that could have been cool and it would have been a very complex struggle between eclipsa and star, seeing as star still didn't trust her more than halfway into season 4
- moon........ moon, my poor warrior queen. i think reclaiming the throne would have been appropriate, but i liked her little early retirement too. i haven't finished season 4 but i just remember that the moment i was like "dude........ what is this character assassination"
yeah so these are my thoughts, got no where else to vent them so here u go
