OOC: Hermione - Dean Hallway Conversation
Dean and Hermione discuss Deamus and the pros and cons of their experiences in the year so far.
D: Hey, Hermione, wait up!
H: Hey, Dean, is everything alright?
H: Perfect? Well that's a strong word.
D: Seamus and I got together last night.
H: Ohh! That's wonderful!!!
H: That's so great, how did it happen?
D: Well we met up by the lake, because he wanted to talk, and it turned out it was about the pictures I left on his phone, and he asked if I meant what I said and I said I did, and he called me an idiot and told me that the crush he was talking about was me, and then he said I should kiss him and ask him to be my boyfriend and I did and now he is and and and everything's perfect.
D: And I really wanted to tell someone and I figured it should be you since you helped me and also you don't gossip as far as I know.
H: This is so wonderful!!! I'm so happy for you!
H: I told you this would work out!
H: And you kissed him! And you're officially together, congratulations all around!
D: I did. I did and it was so wonderful.
H: Of course I don't gossip, no need to worry about that
D: So, so wonderful, Hermione. I thought maybe it would be a bit weird since we've been friends for so long, but it wasn't, it was perfect, it... It felt right.
H: Perfect, that's just perfect, I'm so happy for both of you!
D: Thanks, HG. You alright?
H: I'm great, Dean, thank you, really.
D: Okay... So what did you get for your birthday?
H: The usual, a few books and sundries. A new bag from Harry, which sounds like something I wouldn't want but it's a... thing.
H: Yes. Never mind, it's a long story. But really, thank you for asking, Dean.
D: Of course. I've been bothering you with my problems a lot, I hope you know you can talk to me too if you ever need to.
H: That means a lot, thank you. Everyone is just so... I don't know. This term is a big adjustment.
D: Lots of things have changed.
H: Exactly. I was expecting change, but I guess there were some things I thought were stable and immovable that aren't.
D: Some things just... Different people deal with things differently.
H: They do, you're very right
D: ...How are your folks? Did you tell them everything once they got back?
H: Oh we did. That was certainly something
H: Very glad that we won the war and that I was safe
H: But not pleased about the other stuff
D: Never told mine anything. They don't have a clue about what was going on.
H: But what did they think was happening when you were on the run?
D: Thought I was at school. I'd send mum a letter whenever I could. Lied through my teeth.
D: It was better that way.
D: Well, for them, anyway, and that's what really matters, isn't it? Taking care of the ones you love, keeping them safe. I just really didn't want them to worry, you know? And I didn't want them to think badly of this world, or... my little sisters, they always ask about it, and I just. I didn't want them to be scared.
H: You're exactly right, of course. Goodness, we've all just had to make decisions we never should have had to make.
H: I wonder what it was like for the people who stayed. It's so hard to compare.
D: No one really seems to want to talk about it, either.
H: Exactly. It's so confusing. Everyone else seems to want to just take this time to be kids and cover up the bad stuff with parties and things. And I just can't get into that. I'm trying, I'm trying to not be the wet-blanket everyone expects me to be but honestly... I can't bring myself to care about any of it.
D: To each their own I suppose... I'd just like a quiet year spent somewhere I feel safe.
H: Well, I believe you may just get your wish.
D: I hope so. I was really close to not coming here at all.
D: No, I mean. Not just 'freaking out half an hour before the train leaves because your mate's not there' not coming, proper 'have been thinking about it all summer and is there really any point in it' not coming.
H: Oh. You didn't mention that when we talked at the station.
D: You didn't need to worry even more about me.
H: It's worth the worry if there's something to worry about
D: Well I'm here now, and I don't regret coming, so.
H: Good. It's a very good thing you did come.
D: Well, you know, I figured the school could use some more muggleborn blood.
H: Hmm there aren't really a lot of us this year, are there?
H: Not surprising, really. But still...
D: Hah, I saw some first-years today at breakfast though, so beautifully confused but fascinated by everything
H: Watching first year muggleborns is nostalgic and inspiring all at once
H: I still feel like I am one sometimes
D: Yeah, it's never gonna be quite the same for us, is it?
H: It's not. But that's not so bad
D: Nah, I don't really mind. Kinda fun still discovering new things. Plus, there's so many muggle things the others didn't get to experience, that I'd hate missing out on.
H: Oooh I'm so worried about the havoc adult wizards could wreak with this new power
D: Ehh, the internet is full of weird shit nobody believes anyway
H: You know that's actually a comfort
D: Hermione? It's really nice talking to you but you've looked like you've got somewhere to be for the past ten minutes. Go.
H: Okay, thank you, it was really nice talking to you. Don't be a stranger in the tower okay?
D: Oh don't worry, you'll soon be sick of me with how much I'll bother you
H: Looking forward to it. Good luck with your new boyfriend, I'll see you around, Dean
