Don't Forget 3.Oct.
IT'S OCTOBER 3RD
in frieren magic and technology both progress forward, it isn't a static fantasy world. in flamme's time the world seemed analogous to the roman empire, and now it seems similar to the renaissance.
so, that means frieren is going to live through an industrial revolution before too long, right? it could happen within a couple centuries. she'll get to use internet one day too. and maybe a few centuries past that she'll get to travel the whole galaxy.
give her a CHANCE!!!

bg3 first and last impressions
lae'zel act 1 - i love her she's so cool and capable and my very first friend in this world and her people ride dragons and she's the only one who's actually focused on the tadpole problem and she's literally been trained for situations like this and knows exactly how to fix it, she's the perfect party member and i'll trust her judgment on everything.
lae'zel act 3 - i love her, she's so stupid and wrong about most things, but she's my stupid. my #1 bestie on the sword coast. i love her. praise orpheus the prince of the comet, together we'll overthrow vlaakith and destroy the illithid empire once and for all.
shadowheart act 1 - i hate her, she's so racist to my fave and even tried to kill her? i barely even let her join my party, and then she pulls that??? what's her deal? i don't understand her. i hate this character.
shadowheart act 3 - hello princess would you like to marry me? i’m sorry for not choosing romantic dialogue options in the previous acts. i bought you twelve new outfits, which one do you like the most? please let me enemies to lovers romance you. i'm so sorry for being wrong about you. please marry me. i'm single i'm just hooking up with halsin sometimes for fun. please. i even passed the trial of love with you. please.

Okay, so here's where we're at apparently
Tomura is dead
Toga is dead (or, let's just call it as it is, she committed suicide) - this is despite the fact that if she died other characters (read: heroes) should have died as well, but didn't (Bakugo and Edgeshot for example)
Dabi is presumably still in the hospital (since we didn't see a funeral), unable to move or do anything on his own
Spinner wrote his book, but where he is and how he's actually doing is unknown - presumably he still has to deal with multiple quirks that aren't his own and are tearing at his body
Compress is alive but where he currently is is unknown - he read Spinner's book (and that's it)
Kurogiri exploded?? And nobody has bothered to mention anything about him since
Twice has been dead for a while, but his murderer is not only free of charge but also the head of the HPSC (which still exists btw)
Other things:
The hero ranking system still exists
Seemingly no real changes have been made which would help victims like the LOV before they felt like they had to turn to villainy to be heard/seen/understood
Deku gets to be a hero again by the power of ~technology~ - kinda making the whole deal about him losing his quirk feel pointless
Not from this chapter, but I still feel like it's very important to point out that it's heavily implied that Rei is just gonna take care of Enji (her abuser) now and probably for the rest of time
The few good things:
Ochako bringing more focus on mental health
That was it, I have nothing else
Yeah BNHA is essentially an anti-revolution pro-reform story, but it also doesn't want tooooo many reforms to happen; no real changes to the legal systems of heroism, just changes at the individual level like quirk counseling.
Horikoshi's thesis statement on the League of Villains/Meta Liberation Army is essentially 'we don't really need systemic change in the world, those villains could have been fixed if they went to therapy and people were taught to be nicer to them even though they look weird, someone should have reached out to them sooner. that would've solved it all.'
It's kinda like the ending to Naruto? Anti-revolution and pro-reform, without much legitimate reform being shown. Except even Naruto leaned further into producing actual reforms than BNHA.
One of the main goals of the heroes throughout the story was to bring back faith in heroes to the populace, which feels the industry is one big fame obsessed sham, and in the end they succeed at winning their trust back without actually changing anything about the industry at all.
In fact it seems like the hero industry is actually worse now? Because based on what Aizawa and Deku were saying; only the most powerful heroes are even in consideration and have a 'golden ticket' to the fame and fortune of being a hero, and everyone else who wants to be a hero is apparently just falling to the wayside?
An ending only a conservative could write. At least Deku ended up a teacher rather than a cop I guess- the job All Might suggested at their first meeting.
Representative Rashida Tlaib (the only Palestinian member of the US Congress) holds up a sign saying "WAR CRIMINAL" and "GUILTY OF GENOCIDE" as Benjamin Netanyahu addresses Congress.
I'm so tired of hearing about how the different US states are really "50 countries in a trenchcoat" because I'm sorry... Have you been to the states?
You're really going to sit there and tell me that Washington, California and Oregon are as distinct from each other as the UK, France and Germany?
Really?
With a straight face and everything?
The states are more like, I dunno, different denominations of protestantism, or different Shonen Jump battle series, or different versions of Star Trek.
Like, if someone earnestly talked about how The Original Series and Voyager are actually really different that person would be correct, but if another person said, "Come on man what are you talking about it's all fucking Star Trek" that person would also be correct.
There's two ways I think people talk about this, one culturally (which, yeah, I mostly agree with you, the USA seems broadly more similar than it is different) but the other is legislatively, which I think is much closer to "50 countries in a trench coat" than most other parts of the world.
It's very strange to imagine a single country where crossing a state border means different sales taxes, different emissions regulations, different driving ages, different abortion policy, and until recently different marriage laws, especially given how state law is consistently privileged over federal law.
I think you could conceivably break the USA into culturally distinct regions, but like, 4-6.
I think you're underselling it. Not every state is culturally distinct from others; but many are. I'd say 20-25 culturally distinct regions; and some of those regions are actually smaller than the states they're in.

Sky Ferreira Interview:
What was the first album you bought?
It sounds like I’m lying but it was Fiona Apple’s Tidal. I was five when I bought the Fiona Apple album, which is crazy. I used to watch MTV all the time and record the music videos on a VCR. The Criminal video – I was obsessed. ~ Sky Ferreira Interview, The Guardian, 2024
