College is lonely. It’s really, really lonely.
He doesn’t have Steve, which he knows is silly to worry about so much- but Steve’s his brother, someone who has had him through everything and can’t see why he isn’t able to cope, why he misses him like a missing limb, but he feels alone.
It’s just weird, not having Steve this part of his life. He calls, but it’s not the Bucky and Bucky- he’s good with people. People like him. But people who want his attention for longer than a minute or two, for longer than a byte.
It’s hard. He’s not always as good at this as people expect him to be, and he knows people think he can get friends and know people but it was hard, and then, on a Wednesday, after 6:30, he met a girl.
Studying for his class was proving harder than expected. It’s lonely, and it’s boring but he’s smart- and he can get this. He can.
And that’s when he meets a girl in the library, surrounded by a sea of papers and her eyes trained on her computer like her life depended on it. And she was really, really pretty.
Her hair is in a bun, and her lips tucked under her teeth neatly, and Bucky really should be focusing on his work but she’s something beautiful to look at and lord knows he’s got a weakness for that. He’s so tired, and she’s just- something’s warm about her.
