SpiderGwen
Do you want to read about Gwen Stacy as Spiderwoman? Read this.
So I have to say, when this series is good it’s GOOD. Super interesting meta analysis on what it means to be a consumer/writer of a narrative that’s been an “accepted rule of the universe” and especially about the nature of comics in particular. Plus a lot of really clever references and looks at how some characters might exist in this alternative universe - how different a character can be while still being their core self.Â
It, however, has two biggest problems. The first is that it can’t seem to decide if it wants to be a multiverse story or if it wants to be a deep-dive look at this universe, so instead it just kind of backs and forths between the two sometimes pretty awkwardly and jarringly. The second is that character voices will go out the window for the point of a joke/reference - especially Matt’s. And like, neither of these things really ruin it but at times they do get a bit on the nose and annoying.Â
Should you read it? This is easy - do you want to read about SpiderGwen’s universe with a bit of multiverse thrown in there? If you do then yes read this if you don’t give it a pass it pretty much only effects itself.Â
