“Guess this is my life now.”
Rutger jumped the fence and went straight for this pig’s weak point to kill it in one blow. He took a bite of raw meat and frowned. The wolves that were with him jumped in and took their fill. Oh yeah, Rutger was somehow inducted into a wolf pack. Every night he ran with them and slept with them when the sun came out. Why? Because he had nothing else to do. It was probably time to go though because company was coming.
“Oh boy, here we go.”
Deirdre believed stealing was wrong. Unless, of course, you lived in the woods and only saw other people for about forty-five minutes per week. In that case, it could be hard to afford meat, and she didn’t have the knowledge to run a farm herself.
If she stole from different farms, it wouldn’t be as bad, would it? Just a little bit from each place. Eggs here, milk a cow there.
It seemed like wolves had already found this farm, though. They wouldn’t attack her unless they perceived her to be a danger to her, and would probably just move away from her. Still, she moved forward with care.
Company usually meant the farmer, and the farmer was usually armed and had his own dogs to fight with. Rutger’s leg muscles began to twitch as he got ready to dash out of there. 3, 2, 1, go! Like a burst of photons, Rutger took off only to slam the brakes and smash his face into the floor the moment he saw Deirdre. One of the wolves saw Rutger in his distress and tried to drag him out of there, but Rutger started to let out some barks. Wiping the dirt and pig’s blood from his face, Rutger pointed to Deirdre.
“Ahh! Don’t tell me this is your farm, is it?”
Wait... Was that a man with the wolves?
Well, why would he do that? Grandmother had told Deirdre at a young age that no, she cannot have one of the feline predators that roamed the Spirit Forest as a pet, and no, she cannot run away to live with them. Did no one teach him that?
“Uh...” Well, Deirdre doubted the man would tell the farmer what she was doing. “No, it is not.”
