Imagine making a romance show in 1943 where one half of the couple is a German athlete and the show only talks about how nazi Germany is homophobic and oppressive towards him and that's why he wants to leave and nothing else. Imagine saying that it's not softening Nazi Germany's image, and it's completely fine and the show is anti-nazi because it talks about homophobia while there is an ongoing World War caused by Nazi Germany invading its neighbours, slaughter of civilians and brutal extermination of people every day. And the show doesn't even care to establish that the German isn't a nazi when in-show timeline passes through annexation of Sudetenland.

I was so peaceful before learning anything more about Heated Rivalry other than it's a gay show that exists. The urge to fight westerners for being happy to ignore the slaughter and genocide of CEE people (ukrianians, it's all of us overall but right now it's ukrianians, every day, cruelly and senselessly) just so they can watch their hot gay show with clear conscience is bad for my blood pressure.

I shouldn't have expected anything else to be fair, it's nothing new, it still pisses me off. Frankly I care more about poor Ukrainian gays who are dying on the front lines, and who have to fight for their basic right to live as a free Ukrainian, at the time when they should be working towards bettering their rights in independent Ukraine instead, than about poor Russian gays. "There was probably political tensions between russia and Ukraine in 2019" stop talking stop talking stop talking I've had it with your lack of history knowledge, and your lack of basic curiosity to learn anything before starting to defend the obsession with the Russian soul, and the ease with which you're dismissing the suffering of former eastern bloc when it comes to russian and soviet crimes. Nothing of which should be surprising considering western media never had issues with substituting any of the people from there with russians.

I think that the real reason that Terry Pratchett is my favourite fantasy writer is that he’s the only one who really centres working people in his stories. I mean, Game of Thrones is almost entirely about the antics of rival aristocrats; Harry Potter is heir to two family fortunes and the subject of a prophecy and goes to an elite boarding school; even the Hobbits (save Sam) in The Lord of the Rings are minor gentry. Meanwhile, who are the main protagonists in Discworld? A recovering-alcoholic cop; an old peasant woman who lives in a cottage; a conman who was forced to take over the post-office. Pratchett writes entire novels about classes of people that other writers treat as background characters. He’s not condescending in his depictions; he’s willing to show enlisted soldiers as people, rather than arrow-fodder; and he’s aware that even ‘simple peasants’ know detailed information about things that wizards and knights can’t be arsed to care about; that everything about the world takes a hell of a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and that most people never see, And he makes sure that you know this, too.

I have this recurring daydream of Hans and Henry exploring the countryside—playing in the rivers and lakes in the day. Sipping wine, eating delicious food, being so totally absorbed in each other that they don’t notice anything or anyone at all. They’d get sun kissed skin and seek shelter from the intense summer heat under the canopies of trees and the sun would dance through the leaves and dapple their skin with warmth. The air would be so filled with the smell of flora and wheat and freshness. Henry would roll his pants up and walk in the streams—pick on Hans and his noble reservations. I could go on and on. The imagery is lucid and so sooooo saccharine in my head.
