Castiel’s baby blue eyes were fixed on the small body curled up against the brick wall. When he first noticed her, he thought it was a doll, but the fat tears falling down her rosy cheeks told him wrong.
It was a cold, unusually dark night for the city that never sleeps. Castiel thought it was no coincidence, one of its children was sad and New York refused to go on while knowing it.
And he couldn’t either.
The young man walks in front of you and bends his knees till he can look you in the eyes. You don’t react as he gently wipes your cheeks with the sleeve of his denim jacket, which seems impossible as they keep flowing.
“You know your body is 70% made of water? If a tiny thing like you keeps crying, you’re gonna disappear,” Cas comforts with a smile.
“That’s exactly what I want right now.”
“Oh, honey, don’t say that,” he scowls before gazing up at the cloudy sky and back to you. “Listen, it’s about to rain, so why don’t you let me take you back to my place, make you a nice, warm cup of tea, and then you can tell me all about the reason why you’re out here crying, sounds good?”
You bite your bottom lip. He was a total stranger that decided to approach you out of nowhere but also was the first person to show you some kindness in this city. And even if he actually was a serial killer, you couldn’t care less, at this point there was nothing left in your life to lose.
Having made up your mind, you agree, holding your hand up as he helps you up.
