I've been deeply invested in Kirk/Spock "proof" for over a decade--whether this is in the form of close reading/viewing, considering author intent, challenging what counts as queerness, etc. (I have an M.A. in literature, and I'm very fascinated by how different types of Spirk proof align with different bodies of narrative theory.)

Just recently, I have become utterly taken by people screaming "Star Trek is a story about the 60s!" and "Star Trek is a story about queer military love in the 60s!" I don't know why I haven't analyzed it through this lens before (likely because that seems like a particularly difficult lens to use as someone who wasn't alive in the 60s) but I find it so so so compelling and powerful. Like, no matter how much Star Trek tried to be about the future, it was about the 60s. It is trapped there the same way queer people in the 60s were trapped.

All that to say, if anyone has any commentary/analysis of Kirk/Spock's queerness from this more historical lens, please comment, repost, tag me, etc.

Hi, I am so glad you put this beacon out! :)

My mother grew up watching TOS as a teen-young adult, and TNG was airing as I was growing up.

My mother taught me so much about Trek, IDIC, and how forward thinking the show is. She also taught me what a welcoming, incredible and open minded fandom we have here compared to other fandoms. We don't all agree, but by and large my experiences with the Trek fandom as a queer person have been amicable and positive. There have been hard times, but overwhelmingly over the years I've felt the support from the fans and the creators of the show alike.
