Rewatched 'fallen' to make the gifset, and realized episode feels like it should be more emotionally packed for Jack and Daniel (especially with the big return, and not only for Jack and Daniel), but when you break it down, the actual J/D content is surprisingly light, subtle, and almost… held back. But maybe that’s the point - it’s all underneath. Have not rewatched the second episode, which is direct continuation of 'fallen', and tbh I remember it not as well as I would like to, so maybe it's all in the next episode, but I doubt it.
Danny doesn't remember everything, he only starts to, but he feels the strong connection, he remembers why Jack joined the program in the first place, he is happy to remember something, but the next second he realizes what he remembered. That's such a raw, painful truth. It’s not something they ever really talk about much after the movie. Jack's son died and he wanted to die too, but that was Daniel who saw him, who believed and showed him there was something worth living for.
Jack lost Daniel, thought he was gone forever. And suddenly he’s back: fragile, confused, and still, he remembers Jack’s pain. Still sees him.
Some fun jokes here and there, you still owe me 50 bucks, now you recognize me, etc. It's nice, it's them, but that specific scene is the moment that I loved the most, it had depth, the air is heavy with things unsaid. The writers don’t dig into it; they leave it hanging.
Also, the moment I loved was the scene where Jack admits he kept some of Daniel’s things. There’s so much grief, tenderness, and that Jack O’Neill brand of not saying the real thing directly. It’s very him. That was his way of saying: I missed you. You mattered. You still matter.
Overall, it's nice episode but it is only part I, I would put some other episodes higher on the list and would put "fallen" a little bit back, definitely not in MY top 10, not sure it's even in my top 15.But some scenes were great if you analyze them from the perspective of the characters’ previous relationships, them trying to rebuild it in some way. Or maybe I just wanted it to be more emotional, but they are in the middle of a war, so...
Anyway, what was your favorite J/D part of this episode?
