bc im a geek who knows too much n bc i personally find vulcan physiology [ and history ], if you’ll forgive me, fascinating heres some fun facts about your local dorks bc i know star trek went out w the times but also not a whole lot of ppl will literally eat an encyclopedia like i will.

the reasons vulcans are so cold emotionally is bc of their logical teachings. they used to be v emotional and almost feral [ like their cousins, the romulans n klingons ] and it led their people to an almost never ending war against one another. so surak, the would-be father of vulcan philosophy, introduced the idea of repressing emotions in order to let logic guide them.

ironically enough this made people fuckin angry and it led to, you guessed it, another war. surak got his ass nuked. 

there are indeed vulcans who still feel emotions and freely live an emotional life although they p much live in caves outside of society bc what the fuck

they were one of THE very first species capable of warp drive! 

vulcans literally don’t want to go into space but they literally tell humans what to do regarding space travel..... #alright #notmybusiness

about some time after all of that though [ contacting humans + other races  + beginning to branch out into space ] vulcan gets uneasy again as the people believe they’re straying from suraks teachings and basically a purge happens [ or a reformation. semantics. ] and thats why you now have super cold logical people who refuse to stray from their teachings.

but i mean. to this day they’ve never been conquered [ at least in the tos timeline. get fucked, aos. ] 

but thats boring shit. heres the good shit: 

vulcan physiology and dna is so advanced from humans that you cannot have kids without medical intervention. 

there was one attempt at trying to make a genetic clone of both vulcan and human dna. it did not survive due to basically genetic hemorrhaging. 

spock, bc ofc, is the only successful hybrid to survive into adulthood. ever.

their heart is where a human liver would be! they also have no appendix. :/ 

speaking of - their heart beats several hundred times faster than a normal humans. wild.

their blood is actually rust colored due to being copper based, but once oxidized it becomes green! neat. 

their blood pressure is fucking whack. this is due to dilated blood vessels + high heart rate. this actually keeps their body temp in check due to the high blood flow [ and is also why mccoy refers to spocks blood as ‘ice water’. their body temps are high but their blood + the special way it flows is how their body keeps itself from over heating. ] 

they have heightened sight and hearing but apparently only females smell gooder than the rest....? why. 

honestly i could go on about their mental functions but this post is a page stretcher as is so let me wrap it up w one of the most horrifying things about the vulcan brain: 

traumatic experiences and memories aren’t just mentally damaging but it takes a physical toll in that the brain tries to rewire its neurons and will lobotomize itself to forget them.

boy thats a question. idk, man. i can’t see him ever super preferring any season over the other if bc they all have their flaws in some way. the one he tolerates most is spring n even then depending on the planet he still hates it because of all the pollen n flowers. 

he’ll always n forever being a ‘its fuck winter’ lifestyle though.

spocks one of those people who rarely [ and i do use this term to its fullest extent ] smile. just bc... its not him, my dude. he’s not someone who smiles and laughs, even once he’s okay with being a half vulcan / human. even as old spock i never really saw him smiling even though he was infinitely more expressive. 

his smiles, when he’s not anticipating them,theres no real teeth. they’re gone just as soon as they pop up. but i imagine when he’s tired or in a situation where otherwise 100% comfortable and content with the person, he smiles more easily. still not a lot of teeth? no grins, really. but they’re very faint. i imagine the emotion shows through his eyes more than the actual smile tbh.

god. alright here we go. it’s deep, but not deep enough to make you go ‘whoa’ when you first hear it? definitely lower than most the men on the enterprise. very solid. sometimes theres slight rasps n scraping when he hits low timbres while talking quietly or sounds kind of... idk. its this rare thing that happens sometimes but his voice sounds.. thick, almost? 

im literally going to punch u why did u do this to me. 

anyway, he still. talks very fluidly, not fast? but consistently and at a quicker pace than say. mccoy or kirk. like he’s got too much to say in a short period of time. [ mild comparison to salarians here i guess ]. he never seems to raise his voice? even in what little shows of emotions he has? i know in the debates with mccoy, he talks quicker, but when he’s angry he talks... not slower, but like. at a pace where he’s purposefully enunciating everything, if that makes sense. 

idk. his voice is hard to get into words. just go to youtube.

i imagine that the only kind of storm they see on vulcan are dust storms which is vastly different than say... an actual rain storm. [ i imagine other types of storms, like ion storms, he knows OF but never really experienced first hand until he was on a starship bc ion storms happen.. out IN the atmosphere above the planet. how could he have experienced it. ] 

so p sure the first time he experiences an actual thunder n lightning storm on earth he has. no idea what to do w it. [ not to mention its probably Hell on his hearing ].

so i’d say.. after a while he is. basically ambivalent towards them? he doesn’t hate them, doesn’t rly like them either bc thats a lot of background noise he now has to filter out which makes his job harder bc lightning is unpredictable n you can’t really anticipate that

but overall i wouldn’t say he’s afraid, no

the latter. spock really isn’t the social type, nor is he one to actually... put any kind of business out there, personal or no, so its hard for people to get to know him and whatnot. hard to want to be friends w someone who won’t open up or even act like he’s interested in talking w you in the first place. which honestly he’s just fine w. 

[ that doesn’t mean he won’t at least be CIVIL. he’ll still talk to and acknowledge other people he doesn’t consider his friends. ] 

the few ppl he is friends w tho, he’s really tight with and they’ve seen him through all kinds of shit.

thats hard... i think. bc the enterprise has that weird call system? he’s more used to that? [ bc starm trek was made way back when dinosaurs roamed so texting didn’t exist. weird how that works. ] texting is new / feels way too inconvenient to him. why sit here and fight w his phone for god knows how long when he can just push a button, call someone, and get whatever it is he needs done, done? 

texting just feels.. so inefficient n inconvenient. so calling.

Isn’t that an interesting reaction. Truth be told, Spock had no other plans other than to be mildly annoying and to otherwise be playful through exaggerated traits. It wasn’t the best joke but you gotta give the guy credit for at least making an attempt.
