I need to rant.

I’m getting real tired by the amount of shit Junkrat is getting from other characters. Yeah i get that hes a criminal, (who isnt in OW at this point?) Hes a junker and like the rest of the junkers is looked down on as a society but his latest interaction with Baptiste has upset me for a number of reasons. The interaction goes:

Baptiste: Whats wrong man?

Junkrat: Oh nothing, just beginning to think no one likes me.

Baptiste: Maybe if you stopped stealing and blowing up everyones stuff?

Junkrat: Is is even worth it? If i dont get to do what I love?

Ok, you're NOT wrong, I'm not disagreeing with you here. But hear me out (sorry it's long):

If we think of OW - and Junkrat - as a story-IN-PROGRESS, then this interaction is much less depressing and marks Junkrat as an actual dynamic character with his own internal story arc.

We've already been presented with the external conflict, which is obvious. The interaction with Bap introduces an internal conflict: he doesn't like not being liked. Baptiste (who is also a former terrorist btw, which also lends significance to the interaction), presents the solution that Junkrat should stop stealing things and blowing up people's stuff. Junkrat rejects this as he thinks he would have to give up what he loves, what he lives for.

So this is the dilemma he now has: continue to wantonly destroy and steal and continue to be disliked, or turn shit around? We've seen Baptiste, Cassidy, even Bastion do it within the story. Junkrat has this information now: he needs to stop being so selfish and hurtful in order to be liked by the people that matter. What will he do with it? *We* know he can be likeable, but all that the other characters have seen from their perspectives is an international thief, vandal, terrorist even.

It's kind of a classic arc, actually, with characters like Tony Stark, Han Solo, Mr Darcy, Scrooge, the Beast, and ok many many more, following a similar "nope I swear I'm really happy with my life right now guys I don't need to change" but still changing for the better as the story progresses.

And we love them for it.
