you can tell how much detail and care bloober team put into this game because in the cutscene where james sees maria again after she was killed in the hallway by pyramid head—you can literally see the reflection in james' eyes and guess what:

maria isn't there.

because it's literally all in james' mind, and what's so cool about it all is that every character experiences silent hill's effect differently. take someone like laura who doesn't even see any of the stuff james does because she didn't do anything to warrant silent hill showing her the horrors of what it can be. or even angela who sees flames everywhere like that one cutscene with her and james on the stairs.

come to think of it i dont know if anyone else even acknowledged maria other than james, i know that one of the developers said that angela and eddie wouldn't be able to see her but she does have her own ending where she can leave with james.

my best guess is that she's really only a figment of james' mind and a way to punish him for his guilt and what he did to mary, but its such a neat detail that in the reflection of his eyes that you can't see her—which only implies more that she isn't truly real.

i just think its all so neat this game actually changed me and is one of the scariest but most story rich games ive ever played in my life holy shit
