nobody in the abernathy house got out without some kind of problem. violet's vice? drinking and casual sex. she doesn't care who she's with or what she's doing as long as she's having a good time. unfortunately, she's unaware that some day it'll all catch up.

She is doing great, she is a perfect angel honestly. And its fine, how are they doing? Well I am thinking RN, To work in the hospital here, you know stay in twelve with mom and dad..
The last nine months had been more than torture. But, for Violet, when the end of this pregnancy was nearingâŠshe didnât want it to come.
Unfortunately for her, nature didnât work that way.
She had felt so unbelievably alone for the past nine months. She didnât have many friends to begin with but being in this alone, having a child with no fatherâŠit took a toll on her. For as much as Violet was non-committal, she never wanted to end up like this.
It took her a long time to be able to accept the fact that this was how things were going to be. Accepting it still didnât make her any happier but at least she was able to move on and look forward. Itâs not like she was completely aloneâŠbut there were days where it certainly felt like it.
Towards the end, when everything was winding down, the apprehension started back up again. She didnât know how to be a mother or even a proper woman. She didnât act like one, anyways. How was she going to do this?
All of her fears were brought to life when she heard a slight pop and felt some wetness between her legs. Sheâd never been pregnant before or even read a single thing about what the experience was like but something inside her brain told her âitâs time.â
Trying to stand up, she called for Valerian. After the third or fourth time he looked in the room and noticed her sitting in the chair awkwardly, looking somewhat in pain and somewhat uncomfortable.
âAre you okay?â he asked, raising an eyebrow, and she frantically shook her head.
âThe baby is coming, Val.â Thatâs all she had to utter before his eyes got as wide as possible and he turned towards the door, running to get the midwife. Nobody else was home right now and Violet was almost glad for that.
Returning, Valerian helped Violet out of the house. For some reason their parents didnât believe in modern transportation so Valerian had to run all the way to the midwifeâs house and take her back to his own.
It took him a surprisingly short amount of time to fetch her, and the woman went to work on Violet right away. She barely had time to register what was happening before the medicine she took started to take effect, the pain that was building in her body ebbing away and eventually, she felt nothing.
It felt like ages before the midwife got herself into position and told Violet to push. As much as she knew that he didnât want to be in the room, Valerian was next to his sister. It calmed her down a little and put all of her might into pushingâŠpushing againâŠand a final push. In a matter of moments it was all over and shortly after, a small crying bundle was set into her arms.
Still in a haze from the medicine and the exhilaration of the moment, Violet looked down at the small body wrapped in a soft blanket. A feeling sheâd never experienced flooded through herâŠthis little thing was her baby.
âItâs a girl,â the midwife announced proudly.
âA girl?â Violet responded, looking down at the baby again, a smile spreading across her lips. âA little girlâŠâ
Looking up at Valerian, he was smiling a little too, in his own reserved way. âYouâre an uncle now,â she said to him softly, and he just nodded, looking down at the child in her arms.
After making sure everything was fine and Violet and the baby were healthy, the midwife took her leave with instructions to visit the healer the next day. Violet barely registered what the woman was sayingâŠshe was too starstruck by the little body in her arms.
The baby made a few soft noises before gently snuggling closer to Violetâs body for warmth and protection, and that was it â she was a goner. Sheâd fallen head over heels in love with this childâŠsomething she never expected to happen.
âWhat will you name her?â Valerian asked gently, looking down at his sister. She sat for a moment and thought, mulling names over in her head. She did have a few ideas, ones she had thought up not even a week agoâŠ
âAspen, I think,â she said quietly, looking down at the girl. âIt just seems to fit her.â
Valerian nodded a little and couldnât help but smile. Violet settled back against the chair, sleep beckoning for her. Aspen seemed tired tooâŠsoon, both of their eyes were drooping.
Valerian stood up gently and Violet made a little noise of protest. Smiling and shaking his head, he knelt down next to her.
âYou and Aspen have had a long day,â he said softly. âYou should sleep. Iâll make sure everything is okay, okay?â
For the second time today, Violet felt inexplicable joy. She nodded a little and closed her eyes again. The light in the room clicked off as Valerian left the room and she felt herself drift off into sleep, Aspenâs tiny warm body nestled into hers.
Just a few hours ago she had been so afraid, but nowâŠeverything was different. Everything had changed but maybe it was for the better. Maybe this little baby in her arms would be her salvation.
So I know I have been gone for a while but this is just an update and both me and the baby.
I am now 18 weeks pregnant and I had an appointment about two weeks back where they confirmed that I am having a daughter. Everything is fine with her and she is growing normally. I am obviously home more often than not..But I think I am ready to start seeing people again. People besides my mom. She hovers. A lot..Â
I am already showing enough that people know so. That's that.Â
Things like this werenât supposed to happen. She tried to be as safe as possible but her motherâs voice reverberated inside of her head and she knew that everything had finally caught up to her. But still, even if it was bound to happenâŠit shouldnât have.
She had never been this afraid before in her life. Violet was a strong girl, a brave girl; she never cried and wasnât afraid. She prided herself in being âone of the guys.â Now everything was changing and turning upside down just as her stomach flopped inside of her.
For the first time since she was a young child, tears started to spill out of her eyes as she clutched her head in her hands, staring at the meticulously clean floor. She was glad this house was so big or someone would have surely heard her; hell, she wasnât even sure if anyone was home.
Picking herself up slowly after a good, long cry, she kicked the stupid little wand across the room out of anger before picking it up and looking up at herself in the mirror. Turning herself sideways, she looked at her abdomen in the mirrorâŠit was impossible to think what was going to happen in the next few months.
Her mind began to race. She could never hide this from her parents. Even if she tried her absolute hardest to stay out of the house, it would be hard to hide something like this. And Violet knew that towards the end it would be difficult to actually get out of the house and move aroundâŠher mother was going to kill her.
Not wanting to leave any evidence she packed up all of the wrappings and the wand and threw them in the small box everything came packaged in. She would bring it to the slag heap tomorrow; for now, it would stay in her room, hidden. Right now, however, there was someone she needed to talk to.
âValerian?â she asked, slowly turning the doorknob and giving him a moment to clean up if he was doing anything. He made a noise of approval and she walked in, shutting the door behind her. The room smelled like it did when he had just finished taking more drugs and his sleeves were still rolled up, a new mark in his arm and his eyes showing signs of the morphling working in his system.
He looked up at her and even in his drug-induced state, his expression looked a little surprised to see her looking so upset and nearly crying once more. What seemed to surprise him the most, however, was when she went over to him and climbed into his chair, nestling her slender frame next to him as she began to cry.
His arm wrapped around her back but she couldnât stop weeping, first into his hands and then onto his shoulder. Her brother looked bewildered but waited patiently for an explanation.
âI donât know what to doâŠâ she choked out and he continued to wait, looking concerned now.
Violet moved her gaze from the floor to her brotherâs bloodshot, lidded eyes and she couldnât help but cry more. Was he even going to remember this?
âVal, Iâm pregnant.â Hearing herself say the words made the tears come out of her like a faucet, sobs catching in her throat. She realized after a moment that heâd pulled her into a real hug, his slow and relaxed heartbeat sounding into her ear as her head rested against his chest. It calmed her down enough to keep from hyperventilating, though the tears still dripped down her cheeks.
Neither of them said anything for a while, Violetâs crying reducing to hiccups after a bit. It was a calming silence, however, sitting there with him as she tried to accept the reality of what happened and whatâs going to happen.
âI guess both of us have our secrets,â he simply said, his voice soft and a little raspy from underuse.
âYour secret is easier to hideâŠmineâs pretty visual and comes with a free party favor at the end,â she sniffled, and he chuckled a bit grimly, either at her metaphor or her reference to his addiction.
They sat in silence for a little bit longer until Valerian spoke up again. âThe fatherâŠ?â
Violet took a shaky breath and was only able to shake her head. She didnât know and probably never wouldâŠit was a scary feeling and she hated it. More than anything else.
After a moment Valerian started to stand up and stretched a little, seeming almost hazy as he looked around his room before grabbing a coat to throw on over his clothes.
âWhat are you doing?â she asked, looking up at him quizzically.
âYou need to go see the healer,â he said like it was the obvious answer. âWe have to make sure everything is okay and that you donât have any kind of illnesses.â
Violet could have cried again, but this time out of happiness. Val was going to help her. Even if she was going to be ostracized by her mother, shunned by most people in the city and without her babyâs father, at least she had him. The last person she could trustâŠbut she would pick no one different if she were given the choice.
