A Distorted Perception of (You/Me)/NSMBW comic summaries
Opted to write my summaries for my Mario comics ft the one about Iggy called A Distorted Perception of (You/Me) and my NSMBW comic which is just loosely based on the events that take place during the New Super Mario Bros Wii game where the Koopalings come back
These were both comics I've worked on for maybe over 10 years now😵, clearly the main basis had changed along the way since the plots were much more simpler back then but I've come to a point where I'm solid on what I'm writing now
CW: for mentions of suicide
Part 1
The point in time comes where Bowser decides to finally start training the next heir to his throne, Bowser Jr. and decides to leave Ludwig in charge of the Koopalings. He makes it clear that they no longer need to come with him on his schemes since they should focus on their roles within the troop and he'll only be mentoring Jr for now on.
Ludwig is less than happy to take the role due to the fact that Bowser is basically casting them all aside causing a fallout between them. Ludwig decides he doesn't need Bowser's help for anything anymore and he'll train the Koopalings better than Bowser ever did. Because of the fallout between Lud and Bowser, he lowkey takes it out on everyone else, thus the strain™️ begins.
Iggy, in particular, is a case where this hits hard for him. On the cusp of being old enough to take on his duties but still only seen as a child, shit sucks. Being one of the younger Koopalings, Ludwig doesn’t allow him to do much other than train due to Iggy’s immaturity and brashness. Another issue Iggy goes through is that he's really offputting/weird and with his appearance–namely his eyes–not helping matters, it alienates him from most people. He doesn't get along well with the rest of his family/or anyone really other than Lemmy whose own responsibilities now don't leave him much time to spend with him anymore. Iggy only wants to prove himself and “become stronger” in hopes of things going back to how they were before.
With all of this going down, Ludwig also has his hands tied with dealing with a Piranha Plant Gang led by their leader, Ven Diona, which he's trying to handle himself without getting Bowser involved. After a recent attack on Lud's forces, Lud conducts a search for any leads to track down Diona. Iggy offers that Lud let him have a go at commanding a team against Diona but Lud refuses. Iggy decides he's gonna try his hand at it anyway and disguises himself to sneak into one of the squads on the search mission for scouting out the Diona gang.
Unfortunately during the search, Iggy and the other three on his team, run into one of Diona's associates, a terrifying Spiny Piranha Man with eyes all over his upper body, who's set to eliminate anyone that sets foot into his territory. Due to the circumstances, Iggy ends up taking the Piranha Man’s life to save everyone on his team. Though events are vague on how it had led up to his death and how the other 3 team members had gotten horrifically injured. Ludwig had figured out Iggy had snuck onto the mission and arrived at the aftermath of everything.
As he arrived, he blew up at Iggy before realizing that something terrible had happened and what he had done when he saw the remains of the battle. As they get home, Lud apologizes to him and Iggy asks him to not share what he did to anybody else, which Lud agrees to.
Part 2
For the next following weeks, Iggy has felt like he's changed and the memories of that day still haunt him but he refuses to acknowledge what had happened. While it couldn't be hidden that Iggy and his team got fucked up, the only information given was that their squad had gotten attacked by the Diona gang and were rescued by backup led by Ludwig.
However some members in the Troop are critical that the vague info given is actually the truth due to the other members on the team being worse off (due to the captain of the team losing his arm and the other two are in a state of shock) while Iggy is seemingly unscathed. Since Iggy already has a pretty bad rep, and had also snuck onto the mission, they think that he actually had a part in what actually caused everyone harm rather than the Diona gang. IDK he's 15, he's scary, we hate him.
During this, the other Koopalings show up for this part and while they don't exactly get along with Iggy they notice that he's been acting differently lately but don't know why. Speeding through this bit but the important thing that happens is that the Koopalings help to stop an attack from the Diona gang thanks to a plan Iggy handled and had them all carry out. Things seem to be looking up for a sec for everyone but because Iggy’s still so on edge, he ends up kinda lashing out due to the unfamiliarity which kinda puts him back on square one again.
Another thing happening during this part, Iggy slowly begins processing that his wanting of things going back to how they were is already long gone and he doesn't fully come to accept this until Lemmy, bestie of all time, validates his worst fear that they both are doing much better on their own. So when that bullet gets shot, Iggy starts shooting the rest of them and decides to finally control how he's perceived by playing up his persona of others being afraid of him, which in turn starts to distance himself from his siblings even more.
Part 3
2 years later. Relations between the Koopalings have gotten more tense but Ludwig calls them all back to take down Diona once and for all. This is the part where we actually see what's had really happened on the day that fucked over Iggy big time. During the battle two years ago against the Piranha Man, it turns out that he was also similar to Iggy in the aspect that people have only feared him due to his appearance, so he decided to embrace that image of him. As he's dying, the whole facade drops as the Piranha Man confesses that he sees Iggy like him and gives him some words of solace, basically accepting him. And Iggy being the very lonely and desperate kid he is, is happy to gain that acceptance again which is what scared him in the first place since he realizes that no one else can understand nor accept him for who he is.
Quick refresher, none of the other Koopalings (sans Lud) know Iggy killed this guy and all their understanding of the situation is that Iggy has wracked up a lot of bad rumors over the past two years because of the mission and with him being super cruel to everyone in his vicinity now it's really not helping his case. They don't believe the rumors clearly but Iggy makes it so hard for anyone wanting to defend him anymore. Lemmy confronts him for his callous behavior towards everyone after a particularly bad fight between him and Roy stating how Iggy not being around them anymore makes it hard for them to trust him anymore. Iggy criticizes Lemmy for his hypocrisy not being around first which makes Lemmy decide to give up arguing out of frustration, leaving them disgruntled afterwards.
Anyways last confrontation with Ven Diona. Roy, Morton, Lemmy and Iggy are all traveling together and get ambushed by the Diona gang. During the confrontation, Diona is quite upset that Iggy had killed the Piranha Man but then learns based on everyone else's reactions that they are just finding out about this. This causes disarray amongst the others since it makes the rumors of Iggy always hurting people for fun begin to actually sound plausible.
Unbeknownst to Diona, he had played right into their hands and the Koopalings’ spring their plan into action, and are able to take down his forces and capture him. Though he decides that he's going to try to take out Iggy so he can have just one win, Lemmy jumps in the way of his attack for him. Seeing this happen, Iggy goes crazy on this guy and is about to kill Diona but Lemmy gets up and stops him. Lem confronts Iggy about if the things Diona has told them were true and Iggy not choosing to answer “confirms” it. Lemmy chastises him for his change in behavior and that he doesn't know who Iggy is anymore. Iggy retaliates and finally reveals that he only had done everything he had done because all he wanted was to be with him again after he was left behind. During this confrontation, Iggy ends up strangling Lemmy that he passes out. Thinking he had killed Lemmy, he tries to take his own life but is saved by Roy before he is able to go through with it.
Cut to some time later, Iggy wakes up in an infirmary and finds that Lem is alive. Lemmy now knows the actual truth since Lud had told him and apologizes for insulting him and for not realizing how much Iggy had been struggling the past couple of years. Unfortunately, things are then put into disarray again as Lud decides to put Iggy under surveillance at his HQ for the time being for everyone's safety. Lemmy is against it and the two of them almost begin to fight but Iggy decides to go, basically turning his back to Lem for good now that things have changed.
Okay so like one year later. Remember Bowser? By this point, he clearly knows that he kinda totally left his not-family/high ranking generals to bite the dust and with the whole drama going on, things are basically bound to crumble apart. His best plan to fix this? Let's bring everyone back in my princess kidnapping schemes! That'll do the trick. He's kinda hoping that through the power of friendship, things will go back to how they were but lo and behold, everyone still has issues because nothing was fixed.
Another thing in all of this is that Ludwig has also kinda been made the “scapegoat” in a way with the Iggy stuff cuz he 1. kept the truth from everyone and 2. didn't end up helping Iggy get better (also to clarify, Lud was not at all equipped to handle what was happening with Iggy and basically Iggy pushed away his help when he tried). So Lud got into huge fights with Lem and Roy about this stuff. While Lem–now kinda out of the heat of the moment–knows it's wrong to blame him for everything, tries to apologize and reach out to Lud again. Though Lud cannot bring himself to accept it since he's so full of guilt and blames himself for everything. He's out here like “Entire family hates me but we ball✌️😔”
Anyways hooray Iggy is actually kinda healing(?). He and Lud had reconciled, he's getting over his fears, though has accepted that his life of seclusion from the rest of his family is for the best and still has deep guilt for what he had done to Lemmy. Though with the whole kidnapping scheme going down on Peach's bday, everybody has to team up together as a whole and it means Iggy has to interact with Lemmy again. Once he returns to the castle, Iggy tries to avoid him but Lemmy reaches out to let him know that he's okay with him. Unfortunately, this totally backfires because Iggy can't fathom that Lemmy has forgiven him and kinda ends up flipping out about it while the other Koopalings step in to hold him back due to his sudden outburst.
Iggy then realizes that in the end, nothing has changed with himself after all and that he's only seen as some burden that the others have to subdue. So he decides that the only solution is to again play up the persona that he had built to finally get someone to hate him enough to get rid of him and who better to choose than the Mario Brothers?
Part 4
NSMBW Comic
(So this isn't the Iggy story anymore but basically it ties in all what happened from the last story for this one and basically will show how everyone else is affected by everything that happened.)
So comes the day the plan is to set off during Peach's birthday. Koopalings make their comeback with Jr. leading them. Though as Mario Bros go through the worlds to rescue Peach, they notice something kinda off with the whole gang during their fights. Lem is the one who spills the family drama and begs Mario and co. to help their family. Thus, Mario Bros help heal family trauma via anime fights.
They confront Bowser, telling that the way he's going about this is so very wrong. He's still lowkey doubling down which makes everybody collectively use the power of friendship to beat his ass so hard that it finally makes Bowser change his mind.
Meanwhile as the Koopalings are walking back to their castle, they all reconcile with each other on the way and also finally step up to actually respect Jr because they realized they shouldn't be holding things against him that he has no control over.
As they arrive, Bowser finally gives everyone a real apology for letting them all down for so long and he will finally step up and try to actually take the step forward in helping everyone heal before their castle drops on them, killing them all instantly. A few months later down the line, Bowser does officially adopt the Koopalings into the royal family but Jr still has heir status which is totally fine with everyone.
Does anyone want to read some more random trivia I've been holding hostage? here you go
Spice Tolerance Scale of 1-10
Ludwig- Mid-high spicy tolerance. 7/10
Lemmy- Mild spicy tolerance. 5/10
Morton- Highest spicy tolerance.(what is wrong with him?) 10/10
Roy- High spicy tolerance. 9/10
Iggy- High spicy tolerance. 9/10
Wendy- Mid-high spicy tolerance. 6/10
Larry- Lowest tolerance. 3/10 (He’s at least beating the spicy doritos allegations)
Romance Life
Ludwig- He’s had a few beforehand. He’s either the type to go in with full confidence or the type to yearn and pine when he's in love and never follow through because he's so scared of things going wrong. His first couple of relationships weren't really fulfilling because of his inability to be vulnerable and just leading his partners to think he's impossible to please. Which he kinda was.
Lemmy- He’s dated a few times before. Might’ve dated someone by accident because he didn’t hear what they said when they were asking him out but he’s not sure if that one counts. Master fumbler or friendzoner.
Morton- Had some relationships here and there. Though it was rather because the other party wanted to be with him but it wasn't like he was against it. Usually, they'd just kinda lose the spark and they'd go back to being friends or drift away. He's only dated women but if he really thought about it, he wouldn't mind being with a guy either.
Roy- When he startled dating, basically always had a girlfriend until he was like 18 and finally accepted his sexuality and stopped recklessly dating all the time. As an adult, he's had some relationships but not as much as when he was a teen. Kiiro is the second serious relationship he's had.
Iggy- Doesn't care about romance at all so he doesn't have any experience but not that he minds. You’ll have to really do a lot for him to fall in love with you and there's literally like a 5% chance of it happening anyway.
Wendy- She's been in a few relationships before, though she's never actually been in a serious one until PomPom (which takes a bit of time before they get to this point anyway). She has some admirers and while she does like the attention from time to time, it's never something she'd actually pursue.
Larry- He feels like the type of person who puts anime over his partner/j. He's still quite immature and young so he's not good at it yet. He just got out of his first relationship and right now it's the end of the world for him.
Jr- “NOPE!”-Jr, before running off.
Rooms
They all used to sleep in the same quarters when they were kids but eventually all get their own rooms when they get older so here’s what it would be like.
Ludwig- Room has mostly a regal type of motif of blues and silvers. I feel like he'd have a tall canopy bed. Used to spend most time at his work desk. Has sections for other things like books and instruments. He keeps a piano and violin and uses it when he wants to write new tunes or just play to relieve some stress. Also has a secret side room where it used to be his place to invent things or just have time to himself basically. I bet bro has got a humidifier in there too.
Lemmy- He also keeps his instruments inside like his drums and guitars where he hangs up on the wall. His wall is filled with lots of posters and signings from his favorite bands. He also has a dedicated photograph wall from his instant camera of pictures of him and his friends/family. He also uses the room for storage for his magic props and clown fits. Also keeps all of his makeup and face paint here whenever he goes out.
Morton- It’s a nice cozy room with warm dim lighting with a music player. And the bare necessities poster(as requested by the council).
Roy- Mostly dark accents and reds for his room. He usually just hangs up posters of his favorite bands and women. Also has some photo frames of him and his fam/friends on his shelves because he wants to keep good memories of the times he spends with them. He also clearly keeps all of his accessories and jewelry in here. The amount of accessories he has actually is much more than Wendy’s. I feel like he’d have a very warm dim lighting in his room and probably burn incense at times. He also has a weight lifter in his room too. Normally, he’s kind of sloppy, but cleans up if he’s bringing someone over.
Iggy- Surprisingly very clean but only because he usually sleeps in his workshop. His room is mostly just storage for blueprints/inventions that didn’t really work out but he may want to come back to redesigning in the future. The only reason he's sleeping in his room is because one of his siblings had told him to actually go sleep in his bed if they found him in his workshop (No one is going to bother carrying him back. That man is 6’5 and it will be like picking up a long wet noodle). Also has an area for his Chomps to sleep as well.
Wendy- Probably growing up she had it very pink and girly but has some changes to make it seem less childish. She's toned down the pink in her room and has added more blues and purples now. Probably has an underwater theme for her room and has a canopy bed with round curtains to look like a jellyfish. She of course has a big walk-in closet to keep all of her fits. She has a work desk and sewing area/mannequin for any of her fashion making. Also has a few plushies around.
Larry- Anime shit, figures/posters, all his sports equipment, games, hair stuff, has a gaming desk and uses the area for making music. Has a soundboard and DJ stand. Has a shelf for his comics and manga.
Jr- Art stuff, among us plushie, probably, also has figures, gets really mad if anyone moves anything
Handwriting (sorry in-advance if u write in all caps tis a joke)
Ludwig- Left handed. Only writes in cursive. It's impossible to read.
Lemmy- Has pretty ok handwriting. He doesn't think so though.
Morton- Left handed. Writes in all caps like a madman.
Roy- Writes pretty fancy. It’s surprisingly nice.
Iggy- Another sick fuck who writes only in all caps. Usually unreadable because he writes fast.
Wendy- Nice and clean. Just think of popular girl handwriting but slightly cursive.
