Ending the year with an art summary :D
Some months I've definitely drawn more than others, but overall I think I generally drew a bit more than last year, which has been lovely
OCtober day 6 - relationship
My favourite enemies(ish) to besties (oc on the right belongs to a friend)
OCtober day 3 - favourite oc
It feels mean to pick a favourite, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't my current dnd oc, Dorian. He's in my head pretty much almost 24/7, for better or for worse (or at least for him it's for worse lol)
OCtober day 1 - new oc
A silly little guy I made for a DnD one shot in the summer! They're young aasimar cleric whose deity is a(n also childlike) sun god.
A cute menace who will not hesitate to cast the full power of the sun onto their enemies.
The legend of Delta Rune
(Alternate version under the cut. Also click on it to get the full view so you can see all the smaller details)
One person (two now after writing this) just asked for the extra info and that's enough excuse for me lmao, so below the cut are my thoughts/explanations of details and symbolism (featuring some slight character analysis)! Some of it might be obvious, some might not be. (Warning: it is long)
So firstly, sorry if this ends up chaotic and jumping all over the place. There's a lot and I have no idea how to order it all to be cohesive.
ANYWAYS let's begin :D
To start with: the main three.
Their poses are based on the panel of the general prophecy seen at the start of the game, though with some deliberate differences.
Susie and Ralsei are both looking up, whilst Kris is looking down. This is to symbolise Ralsei and Susie both being aware of the prophecy (ending) whilst Kris (or more specifically the player) isn't aware.
Ralsei looks up with fear and worry, desperate to change the dire ending of the prophecy. All he can see is the dark fountain and its dangers. He looks up and sees his responsibilities weighing down on him.
Susie, however, looks up with hope. She doesn't just see the prophecy, she sees all her friends. She believes the prophecy can be changed, and the darkners all looking down at her with love are her proof.
Kris, however, looks down/away. This is both because us as the player don't know the ending to the prophecy, but also because Kris is deliberately looking away. Their expression, whilst subtle, has a slight frown. They don't want to see how the prophecy goes, they don't want to be a part in it. They don't want to be a puppet forced to play out a role, to be someone that they're not. They don't want to take all the actions of the player, whether that be in the pacifist or snowgrave route.
Back to Ralsei's panel, the darkners in it don't interact with him much. This is to show how Ralsei kind of feels seperated/closed-off from the other darkners. He's lonely, dealing with the weight of the prophecy largely on his own (and the only reason he isn't fully on his own is because of Susie accidentally finding out.)
Only the Werewire holds their hand out. They're just a puppet, almost showing a sort of solidarity in the feeling of having no control of your fate.
King looks up as well, though determined/serious. He knows what the knight promised, and he wants it. He also stands on the darkners of his darkworld, to show how he stood himself above others, often to their disliking. Queen, meanwhile, looks down, aware of what the knight promised but more interested in the "heroes"/lightners in her darkworld that are tied to Ralsei.
Above Ralsei's panel is the soul in the fountain, as if to seal it. It's to further show the prophecy weighing down, the image of what must eventually be done to the dark fountains for safety.
For Susie, she's standing within Gerson's library, the stained glass of the sanctuaries/his hammer room standing tall above her. By her feet sit shards, representing the prophecy that she by all means will try to shatter.
She stands in the middle, not only because of the prophecy image this is based on, but also because she feels to me like the most classical "hero" of the three. She sees the best in people, stops at nothing to help them and tries to stay optimistic and stand strong, even in dire situations.
As I said earlier, she looks up with hope, and all the darkners in this panel look encouragingly down to her. They're all the proofs of her kindness, her determination that changes fate.
I put Tenna in her frame as I see them as parallels to each other. Both have been alone, discarded, unseen. Yet Susie refuses to let Tenna die, even when he is destined to do so. She shows him kindness and gives him the hope he'd lost. She even makes sure he can find a new home where's hes appreciated again. Their friendship marks an important moment in the both of them.
Gerson and Jackenstein also help shape Susie, giving her confidence in her healing and showing her the power she has within her. And then there's Lancer, who's there for obvious reasons.
Above Susie's panel sit the different action icons for battle. Magic, fighting and defending sit against each other, with mercy in the middle.
Kris, meanwhile, is the most dire feeling panel of the three. They're actively weighed down by what's going on, to the point they can't bare to look up anymore. They stand on the path to the shelter, yet in the background only a Christmas tree is looming over them. So much with the Holidays, from Dess dissappearing to whatever Carol's involvement with the shelter is, is latched onto Kris.
Their responsibility, even if we don't know whether it's positive or negative, is daunting. Whatever they're doing, it doesn't seem like they're happy with it. They grip their sword, not with pride, but with necessity.
Jevil and Spamton sit in the top. Jevil looks down at what's happening like it's some funny joke. Meanwhile, Spamton neo looks up (at the prophecy) with reverie. Spamton's pose is meant to vaguely mimic the way angels are often depicted in stained-glass, facing mostly forward and looking up to Heaven.
Some of Spamton's wires have been cut and dangle down, two of which Ramb is gripping onto for dear life. He's terrified, not wanting to let go. This is to show the way Ramb was involved in the whole Sword Route, regardless of how aware he was of its weird contents. Whether he wants it or not, he has gotten tangled up into the web of the prophecy.
Seam looks down with melancholy, whilst Eram is almost taunting. The Winglade sits right over Kris' head, like some sort of excecutioner's blade.
Above their panel sits a small snowflake (snowgrave reference) and then above that a window based on the cage prophecy panel.
Above the main three panels sit the Knight and the Titan, their placement once again inspired by the placement of angels in stained-glass windows.
Then, in the middle, sits the Delta Rune itself. Below it sit the creatures of true dark (titan spawn) and above it the fountain.
Now for the little panels: lots of them little references to either silly/random things (moss, banana, pipis, egg) or a couple characters that are implied/referenced but never explicitly mentioned (Friend, Gaster). Also the annoying dog as a halo around it's head, cause why not lol.
Now, if you read through this all, congrats and thank you :D Have a metaphorical cookie

A couple drawings I made recently! These bots still have a vice grip on my brain asjdlsaln
Been making silly/cursed reaction images of my dnd party :P
It's (far from) over
mARTch day 4 - objects!
Including: a button, a candle snuffer, a glass tealight holder (with very funky reflections), a pen, an incredibly crumpled piece of paper, my eraser, mouse and some plant fertilizer. All of these were already on my table when I decided to do the studies.
I tend to prefer doing any art studies on paper instead of digitally and I use a little notebook with green pages for that, so be prepared for lots of green the coming few days lol
mARTch day 2 - inspiration!
Beyond my sibling, who has always been a major inspiration for my art, a lot of my inspiration/drive to create art comes from robots! They're a general passion for me (and part of the reason I'm trying to get an engineering degree), and a lot of my favourite media is robot related.
Often when I'm in an art block, it's something to do with robots that manages to pull me right out of it again, so it felt right to give them this moment of appreciation.
Putting these here because they're good questions
Both, kind of! I find machines as a whole fascinating as well, pretty much for the same reason as you said. The intricate parts working together to do specific tasks and the whole process to create these is absolutely wonderful. There's a creativity within what's seen as these "boring/purely technical" things that I've really fallen in love with and that inspires me, especially now that I'm learning about some of these inner workings at university.
With robots I think the reason they seem to stick with me so specifically is because they not only are incredibly complex and sophisticated machines, but that they really show of the human nature. People are more likely to pack bond with a robot, give it a personality and make it feel alive to them. Robots, and the way they're often humanised, give such a clear example of just how much humans connect with the world, no matter how much people try to deny it.
Plus, as someone who's autistic, I think robots in movies/media have resonated with me because they're often seen as "other". Whilst I as a kid never fully picked up on it or realised what it was, I did sometimes feel distanced from other people because there was just something different about me, even though I never knew what. Seeing all these robots in media that seemed to have the same thing, processing the world through a different lens and being different to their (human) peers, but still being seen as *alive*, I think that really stuck with me.
That connection to robots is probably also why a lot of my hyperfixations/special interests are robot-related, and a lot of my inspiration (for art) comes from my hyperfixations and special interests.
So in the end, whilst all machines do inspire me to some extent, robots definitely have that special place in my heart.
This was a bit of a ramble, but I hope it makes sense!

I'm going to be doing bweird's mARTch event this year, starting off with my submission from day 1 - selfportrait!
Since I'm busy with university, I'll try my best to do the important days and then for the others I'll draw depending on whether I have the time/motivation on that day.
Sunny day
