For years I stood against the storm.
I planted my feet within the earth and spread my roots.
The gusts of wind tested my strength,
And each passing day seemed to dim just a little more.
My roots strained more and more with each setting sun.
The only warmth I knew, was the love left in my heart.
For years have I put myself out on the frontline,
Taking the hits for the sake of love.
As the dials of time continuously turned,
My heart began to become sick.
My roots struggled to maintain a grip,
And I slowly felt myself drifting away.
This storm has been relentless,
With no foreseeable end in sight.
I ache at the thought of washing away,
But I can’t hold on any longer.
My body is on the verge of wasting away,
And my mind has already slipped.
I have become familiar with many demons.
They would often tempt me,
And hypnotize me into “happiness”.
I began to lust for the way of life they showed me,
And lost myself within this world.
I look around this place,
And slowly begin to pull out my knife.
The blade slices deep within the soles of my feet, breaking this bond to ground.
As I scream out in agony,
I drive the dagger further into myself.
Creating a pool of disgrace around my mangled feet.
The torment I feel in this moment is matched with the relief I know will come.
My roots left in the sand will slowly fade,
And this place will soon forget about me.
As I waft through the oceans,
My eyes can not believe the sights there are to see.
The sunrise has never been so beautiful.
The birds have never flown so freely.
And the water has never felt so warm.
Ignorance, is not always bliss.
Sometimes, the storm doesn’t pass.
Sometimes, it becomes the only world you know.
Sometimes, you have to acknowledge the limits of your own strength.
