Aroace culture is watching people talk about media where two friends are willing to go to hell and back for the other and hearing them say: ‘There is no way they are just friends. You don’t do this for a friend.’ And it just reminds you that according to so many people, you will never be worth the effort or care you desire. Even though you would genuinely put that much effort towards your friends, they wouldn’t do it for you.

there’s something about queer-platonic relationships. the fact taht they aren’t necessarily romantic or sexual or even platonic, it’s just connection in one of the most intimate senses. As a person on the aroace spec it jst really speaks to me. it could be the most intimate and loving relationship in the world and it could not be defined by labels. gracerocky and strattland r both rlly good examples of this, and being in the phm fandom has genuinely made me feel so seen and understood in ways I never knew I needed.
Saw someone get mad at Bloodymary for "erasing the aroace rep" and i was like. What. Guys. I need you to remember that no matter how aroace coded Grace is, IT IS NOT CANON. Andy Weir has not confirmed, nor stated in the books, be it explicitly or implicitly, that Grace is aroace. I need you to remember that a headcanon being widely accepted in the fandom does not make it canon. Look, I'm aroace myself, and I love the aroace Grace hc. But you cannot get mad at people for disagreeing with you over something that was never even confirmed.
Just to be perfectly clear, none of those things is hugely egregious or problematic on its own (the 'LGBT' acronym especially, I've seen a fair amount of 'Q+' people that associate with it just fine and that's understandable), it's just a lot of little things that tend to pile up over time. And yes, most of the time none of them are intentionally pushing us aside – but again, that's 'cus we'd have to exist in people's eyes for that intention to even exist in the first play.
Anyway. I dunno. Feels a bit overly whiny. But it's another one of those things I'd wanted to get out of my system ig.

i just think if youre usamerican and within an online fan community for something thats also predominantly liked by usamericans You should be nicer and more open minded to fans that arent from the us and maybe dont treat them like some sort of strange fucking creatures. you might get more fans to talk to and befriend if you dont act like the us is the default for everyone in existence. this applies to everything ever when it comes to interacting with others online but im talking about fandom bullshit currently so keep that in mind
genuinely if youre a grown ass adult that goes "wtf you never had a childhood xD" because someone in your fandom community said they didnt have a nintendo console or some shit you need to grow up asap and consider how that can be alienating and add up to this person over time and make them not wanna bother with your poking and prodding. because so many usamericans do the exact same shit .
it may sound like something silly to you but maybe you should consider the fact that not everywhere on earth is the same. youre on the internet, there are people across the globe talking to you!! id say you should be thankful if someone from across the earth is into the same stuff as you are, be grateful about how you share a passion for a piece of art despite the distance yknow
i dont envy youtuber friendship fallouts like im imagining the times ive had to ditch a toxic ex-friend but with the additional baggage of a) having to maintain some professionalism as a public figure and b) there being hundreds of gay teenagers on the internet who headcanon us as found family and/or lovers. i think i would crash out.
