To be the king of the dead you yourself must be dead/undead.

Luigi died that night at the Dead End Hotel form the injuries Boo gave him. The minute he died was also the minute he was crowned the new King of the Dead/Undead.

(I'll explan more about the crown later. But it did bring luigi back to life after about 10min of him being dead. E.Gadd did infact time it.)

Step 3. Fight for the right

The king candidate must defend the current king in a physical/magical fight. As a means to prove that they are capable of protecting the kingdom.

Luigi has fought and won against Ichabod (King Boo) more than once therefor proving himself capable of keeping the Denizens of the Dead (DOD) safe.

Step2. Basic knowledge

You can check every other requirement on this list but if you don't have even the slightest clue on how to rule a kingdom you won't even be considered as a candidate for King.

After all you have to at the very least know what your doing when ruling a kingdom.

Luckily, Luigi picked up some knowledge of kingdom ruling from helping Prince Pasliy study trade laws and his talks with Daisy, where she vents to him about "bureaucratic nonsense." He didn't think he knew a lot when he was first crowned but as the days went on he realized just how much information he memorized. Successfully keeping the trade between Evershade and the other kingdoms running smoothly.

How to become the king of the dead.

Step 1. The masses

For one to be crowned king they must first be respected/liked by a major of the Denazens of the Dead. (About 75% to be exact)

Ichabod (King Boo) was king for about 2,000 years. At the time of his crowning the dead needed a strong and routhless leader, to keep there homes in Evershade Valley safe from neighboring kingdoms trying to take over the land. But sadly after the battel King Boo refused to soften his cruel nature and slowly but surely his people started to hate him for it. Thouse leving the first king requierment free for the taking and for someone as kind, curious, and understanding as Luigi it was almost to easy.

Bowser doesn't mind Luigi as much as he minds Mario. But that doesn't mean he isn't wary of Luigi after all he and his brother have keeped him and his kids from being one big happy family with peach. (He's dilutional but his family is working on it)

Luigi died fighting King Boo at the Dead End hotel. But he didn't stay dead he got revived by the crown/dark crystal.

With Luigi being revived by the crown he now meets the last of the four requirements to be the new king of the Dead.He of course doesn't tell his brother about this because he doesn't want to worry him with the fact that he died.So he goes on trying to figure out how to be the king of the dead with E. Gadds help.

Luigi manages to keep his king status a secret for a year until some rouge Boos who are still loyal to Ichabod(King Boo) start causing trouble in the Dark Lands. Leading to Bowser and co finding out Luigis new status.

Kids come first Au

The koopalings ages and more.

-Ludwig was adopted at 5 by Bowser who is his really great uncle. (Is 10 at the start of the story. )

-Lemme was adopted at 4 by Bowser with is baby brother Iggy who was 2. After being found in a fruit crate that was sent to the palace. (Lemme is 9 and Iggy is 7 at the start of the story.)

2 years later Bowser adopted 3 more koopalings plus an egg. Who all lost their families to plague.

The koopalings were 5-year-old cousins Roy and Wendy. Along with Bowser's other great-nephew 3-year-old Morton and an almost ready-to-hatch egg(Larry).

(Roy and Wendy are 8,Morton is 6, and Larry is 3 at the start of the story.)

Almost a year later the stork dropped off Jr.'s egg. ( Jr is 2 and a half at the start of the story.)

Mario has no idea how to tell the difference between an adult Koopa and Koopaling. So the first time he meets the Koopalings he's like "ok just some fancy-looking Koopa. They must be the big guns before Bowser." Then proceeds to kick the koopaling's tails. It isn't until much later that he realizes he's been fighting literal children the oldest being 8 the first time they meet and that's only because Luigi himself tells him.

Yes and no.

Original canon? ? All 7 Koopalings plus Junior are Bowser’s kids.

Post 2012-2013 canon? ? Only Junior is Bowser’s child. Miyamoto retconned the original canon and made it so the Koopalings are just 'underlings'
