Naga Sadhus represent one of Hinduism's most mystical and ancient spiritual traditions - warrior monks who have renounced all worldly possessions, including clothing, in their pursuit of moksha (spiritual liberation). Covered in sacred ash (bhasma) and adorned with jatas (matted locks) that can grow for decades, these ascetics embody a profound commitment to spiritual enlightenment that few can comprehend.

During Mahakumbh-2025, I had the rare privilege of meeting and photographing these elusive holy men who normally live in remote Himalayan caves and forests. Approaching them with deep respect, I spent time understanding their practices before requesting permission to capture their portraits.

This particular sadhu's intense gaze and weathered features tell stories of years spent in meditation and devotion - a living connection to India's timeless spiritual heritage. Being able to document these sacred souls feels like preserving a piece of our ancient culture that's rarely seen by the outside world.

Standing in the middle of a huge crowd at Mahakumbh-2025, I felt small but inspired by the energy all around me. The Sangam—where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers come together—became much more than just a famous place; it felt alive with people’s faith and emotions.

It wasn’t easy to find space to lift my camera—every spot was packed with people, each one full of hope, prayers, excitement, and wonder. In all this chaos, I saw moments of peace: faces full of hope, hands reaching out for blessings, and sunlight shining on the river’s waves. My aim was not just to show how big this spiritual gathering was, but to share the feeling everyone had—looking for a connection to the rivers, to tradition, and to something bigger.

With this photo, I want others to see what it felt like to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with so many people, each one searching for something special—to capture both the huge crowd and the quiet, timeless spirit at the heart of the Sangam.

“HAR HAR SHAMBHU”

Location: Murudeshwar Temple, Karnataka, India

This temple is built on Kanduka Hill (Karnataka State, India), surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea. The magnificent 123-foot-long statue of Lord Shiva (the world's second tallest statue of Shiva) in the backdrop lends the Raja Gopuram a majestic look.

I took this fotog from the 18th floor of Raja Gopuram, the tallest Gopuram in Asia (249 feet) including the ground floor with 21 floors. This is the only gopuram with a lift and devotees can go right to the top. The base measures 105 feet in length and 51 feet in breadth.
