i don't know or care if this is Too Woke or smth but the Minions guy saying that there would never be female minions for his (insert xyz "reasons" that i don't care about) is actually deeply misogynistic no matter the reason. Like sure women are too smart to be minions and thats a "good thing" i guess, but that's also so fucking reductive. Women are varied people, and can be just as chaotic and stupid and mischievous as men. Women are not some ethereal race of beings too good and pure for fart jokes or middle school style shenanigans and pranks and evilness. "Women would find it tokenistic" okay then make her a real dimensional character and not just part of a smurfette principal.
Like a female minion would not have to be anything like Smurfette in the first place. She would not have to be a love interest to a male minion or part of a love triangle or secretly evil (more so than minions are evil in the first place). She could be their sister like how they are brothers to each other. She wouldn't even have to look different. Minion morphology does not have to match human sex characteristics, and any given minion could already just be female as of this moment. Maybe Kevin is actually female. In fact there doesn't have to be just one female minion! If you just say that all the minions are actually female as of this moment that doesn't actually change anything about them.
To be extra woke, why are minions men? Are they not more so genderless beings? Why would you even need the minions to be male in the first place? That just begs for a female counterpart. If they lack gender in the first place then there is no "opposite gender" to beg representation for.
I read and listen to music at the same time and I just read this passage of Magic and Dread by Jenny Offill:

i'm watching doctor who for the first time and i honestly feel really bad for jodie whittaker. like i went into it hearing she was one of the worst doctors, and she kinda is but it's really not her fault
i was always pretty radical about my ideas about my body (im fat and despite the internet's best efforts i've never felt bad about it) but the more i read about obesity the more radical i become. why does being fat get such visceral reactions everyone who believes that being fat is horrifying is weak and stupid full offense
sometimes art school is showing your professor the nude reference photos you took of yourself for the painting you're about to make, then your professor showing you the nude reference photos he took of himself in college to make it equally vulnerable, as well as to show you to lean into the performance/drama/fantasy of it all
and somehow this isn't the first time you've seen a professor's genitals, because in your first year of college your video/performance teacher showed the class one of her performance videos which involved her stripping down and painting walls buck naked

saw someone else say that ares was the tron program of the dillinger grid. No???? He’s literally the Master Control? He starts as a potential “antagonist” that’s the point? we're sidelining tron in his own movie that's what makes it a true part of the franchise.
saw somebody ELSE say [SPOILER] that baby dillinger going into the grid to become sark was like his grandfather who did it before him. NO. SARK WAS NOT DIGITIZED DILLINGER. SARK WAS PROGRAMMED BY DILLINGER, OBVIOUSLY. BABY DILLINGER IS THE FIRST DIGITIZED DILLINGER. WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT
anyway here are my tron opinions as someone who payed attention to the plot during all three movies:
1) greta lee’s acting was fine! it’s the abysmal dialogue that has plagued all three tron movies that was the problem. the dialogue doesn’t sound like a real person ever so when ares speaks it works because he’s a little ai weirdo but from eve it’s strange bc people don’t talk like that. EVERY TRON MOVIE IS LIKE THIS 82 had cheesy 80’s dialogue and legacy traded off between cheesy 2010’s tough guy dialogue and weird new age spiritualism dialogue. none of the characters have ever sounded like real people!
2) yall garrett hedlund and damn near everyone else in the legacy cast didn’t want to come back (saw somewhere that “actor disinterest” was a factor in the casting) how tf were they gonna make a direct sequel if the actors weren’t interested. lower your goddamn expectations. also in-universe he hated capitalism why are we acting like he would've ever wanted to be a ceo that's such a movie cop out that they only did because that's what a "happy ending" is supposed to be to match they ending of 82 (although i still cannot BELIEVE they made flynn the ceo let's be so fucking for real) LEGACY ENDS WITH HIM AND QUORRA MOTORCYCLING INTO NATURE HE WOULD'VE HATED BEING A CEO.
3) oh god i cant believe i enjoyed a movie with jared leto in it good god the last time that happened was suicide squad and he almost ruined that movie and even here he was almost enjoyable oh god oh no oh my fucking god no fucking way save me—
4) if you’ve never seen tron (1982) shut the FUCK up because ares was like an homage to 82 with the aesthetics of legacy. my roommate and i were slapping each other in the theater every thirty seconds catching a new reference or easter egg. we damn near lost our mind when ares went into the og grid and we lost our SHIT during the mid credits scene
5) speaking of, EVERY MOVIE TAKES PLACE ON A DIFFERENT FUCKING GRID. 82 takes place on Encom’s grid, Legacy takes place on Flynn’s digital world grid, Ares mostly takes place on Dillinger’s grid (evil and therefore red, duh) except the one scene where they were hacking Encom’s updated grid. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PLACE. LEGACY WAS NOT IN A VIDEO GAME IT WAS THE DIGITAL “UTOPIA” FLYNN WAS BUILDING WITH TRON AND CLU (this is another mistake i see flying around)
6) this is maybe my only negative but stop sidelining my man tron in his own damn movies! we didnt even get an "i fight for the users!" and there were like three points i was expecting it. hopes dashed every time. bruce boxleitner has been deserving better since 1982. apparently he wasn’t even asked to be in ares! disrespectful.
7) AKIRA SLIDE OOOHHHH BOY. SEA OF SIMULATION CHASE SCENE. EGREGIOUS AMOUNTS OF SLO-MO. THE DIGITIZATION BEING LIKE 82'S PIECE BY PIECE. EVERYTHING ABOUT ATHENA'S CHARACTER DESIGN. AJHFLKAHKJFDHFALK FOAMING AT THE MOUTH GOOD GOD THIS IS PEAK
8) actually i lied bigger negative but why tf isn’t greta lee on the poster? eve is arguably the main character, not ares. i mean realistically they are like shared protagonists but she didn’t even get a spot in the poster? she had more character depth than quorra (loved her but you cant deny her manic pixie dream girl status) and had more screen time than every other female character in tron put together besides quorra. disrespectful part 2. (side note idgaf if they sexy-girl posed her on the poster like they did for 82 and legacy SHE NEEDED TO BE THERE)
9) don't??? expect oscar worthy performances??? or writing??? this is a tron movie?????? bestie this is all about the aesthetics and cutting edge computer graphics and the discs and lightcycles and sick ass fight scenes and banger music. outside the visuals and music tron is BAD that's what makes it so good.
10) SO glad they didn't make eve and ares a romance that would've been such a fucking cop out
at the end of the day yes there were glaring issues with ares. there are glaring issues with every tron. stop ruining my online experience by complaining about things that are explained in-universe! also watch this in 4dx if you can--getting thrown around adds so much to the experience
ordered fish n chips at my (american) college and while i knew that the “chips” were ordered separately i didn’t bat an eye because that was usually the case when getting burgers or tenders

like even when i'm looking in a mirror i think of myself as "big" but not as overweight as i am in reality
like i do know that i'm fat i just...don't usually feel that way?
god bless jury duty-- i had to miss class for it today and apparently my professor for that class is giving me some extra credit just for having jury duty for the simple reason that they were talking about hammurabi's code in class today
