the squawk that escapes ali’s lips once riley pinches his cheek is embarrassing to say the least. even so, despite the pink blossoming across his features, there’s no underlying annoyance from his friend’s action and ali can’t fight the grin from pulling at his lips regardless ❝ is it so bad that i want to hang out with you and eat fried shrimp ?? instead i have to share your attention with these drunken fiends,❞ ali responds with another huff whine for melodrama sake and to keep up the bit. while ali would very much like to hog the attention of riley until their shift ends, he knows it’s unlikely since this is their job after all and money is always nice. so ali sits in silence, sipping on his drink while riley concocts more drinks and offering a thank you when his friend tops off his drink with more fruit. ❝ i plead the fifth !! besides, if you’ve ever had the black cherry flavored one then you’d know it’s easy to get in over your head, ❞ ali snickers before popping another cherry in his mouth. ❝ rich people are too busy worrying about rich people things like the stock market and cash saving bonds or whatever to think about their shampoos. so i think you’re in the clear. ❞ a dramatic sigh passes through cherry-reddened lips and ali drops his face into his hands. ❝ they don’t need to be good for me i just need out of this dry spell. i have needs !! ❞ he drops his hands but the pout remains. ❝ i do need some body wash though so thank you for offering. ❞

𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 and he’s able to escape from behind the bar twenty minutes early . it’s quick work to collect his tips ( he actually didn’t do too bad despite the non tippers ) and find their way to the other side of the bar with their friend , easily sliding onto the bar stool . “ thank god that’s over , ” riley sighs out , grin spreading over their mouth when their obligatory after - shift vodka soda with lemon is set in front of them without having to even ask . “ okay , ” riley starts once the lemon is squeezed into their drink . they turn to ali with raised eyebrows . “ there’s no way you’re in a dry spell right now . are you seriously ? that just doesn’t make sense to me . you’re so cute ! ” maybe riley’s a little biased but they’re also right .

𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 so when he hears yuna invite him over , he thinks why the hell not ? what’s better than spending an afternoon on a patio under the grecian sun sipping wine and eating fancy cheeses ? “ oh you are so speaking my language right now , ” riley gasps out as they take a seat next to the other immediately reaching for a glass of wine . “ how were you planning on eating and drinking all this if i hadn’t came along ? ”

clear cerulean water, salty air, the acropolis and homes of white scattered along the horizon; if there was any consolation for being forced on the cruise it was this, it was greece. it’s only been a handful of hours since they’ve docked, but already the atmosphere has something resembling relaxation settling over him. tense muscles feel slack. overthinking has slowed. and the whiskey from the bar he’s found is strong. he’s just about to take another sip of it when he sees him, the too pretty for his own good bartender from crowned hope, and while he should ignore him, he takes a minute to look. eyes pass over theirs, their bodies and back up again, subtlety an art that he willingly forsakes. in another world he’d shy away from being so obvious, but with the way they’ve done the same to him, there’s no use in pretending he doesn’t like what he sees. quick shift has him looking back at the server on duty and with a tilt of his head he acknowledges them. “whatever they order, put it on my tab.”

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐞 , riley finds himself at the bar –––- alone ( although he doesn’t mind it ) sipping on a cosmopolitan and people watching of all things . greece has treated them well : their skin has a nice glow from days spent at the beach and they feel just a little bit smarter from all the history that’s been crammed into their head from countless museum visits . he’s enjoying his time alone but he doesn’t deny that he wouldn’t mind some company and it’s after this very thought that riley feels eyes on him and he turns to see just who’s checking him out . they’re pleased with the answer : one of the guests from crowned hope who’s frequented their bar quite often . their eyes meet and riley feels a little bit of a shiver roll down his spine at the way their vision travels over their body and then back up again . if riley were a shy person he’d feel exposed , a little embarrassed , but he’s not and never has been , so instead riley straightens his back and lifts his drink in acknowledgment to the other .

“ mm , i know . ” niran presses his lips into a thin line , “ it was hard to watch . people should know boundaries . ” he’s glad to see someone that he knows , especially since they grew up in the same neighbourhood as himself . niran orders two drinks , placing it next to their drink before he sips on his own , “ for later . did you come here by yourself ? you know , if you want , we can sit together . or just sit in silence while we enjoy the drinks if that’s what you’re into . ” he suggests with a warm smile , chuckling softly .

“ so … what do you say ? ” rhea asks , hopping onto the atv she rented for the day and starting the engine . “ wanna join me ? ” she’d already paid for the day so there was no question as to whether or not she’d back out . “ i think it’d be a fun way to get around santorini for the day . and not gonna lie the rates aren’t bad either ! and it’s easier than riding a motorcycle . ”

“according to my phone… i have no idea where i am.” usually one to know her way around places, narae finds herself in a tricky situation, unable to navigate the town she was currently in. maybe she should’ve just gone on one of those tours instead of ventured off on her own. “i think i lost signal a while back so my phone map’s kinda just stuck in the ancient theater of delphi. like, i’m pretty sure i’m not there anymore. so i was hoping you could help? u– unless you don’t know where we are, either.”

jaeyi really loved his job, making pastries all day was truly an amazing job for him, but he could never say that he loved that more than going to the beach. he was so in love with the view and the weather at that moment, it was just a perfect moment and he would treasure it forever. “ i have to be totally honest with you right now ” finally decided to break the silence, a big smile in his face, his brain deciding on whether he should say it or not, but he felt like he had to. “ but this beach makes me feel like someone is going to burst into an abba song in any moment ”.

𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 . . . this is one of the main reasons riley decided to up and pack all his bags and leave chicago without any warning . even though he’s still got a job that gives him migraines on the daily , he can punctuate it with days at a time spent on beaches across the world without a care in the world . riley stretches out on his towel , arms lifting above their head as they soak in the sun , barely listening to their companion’s words . it takes a moment before riley responds , and when they do , voice is lazy and loose : “ maybe if you start , others will follow . ” they start to hum the opening chords to lay all your love on me , finger in the air to follow the tune before they point at jaeyi . “ hit it babe . ”

𝐬𝐤𝐢 - 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐬 , faux pout pulling riley’s lips downward . “ yah , ” they start , and the thai rolls easily off their tongue without any forethought : “ don’t be like that . i can’t hang out with my friend without you thinking i’m up to something ? ” friends ––––- that’s definitely too strong a word for what they are , but riley is absolutely committing to this bit . their shift ended early and they’re bored . they lean over the arm of their chair , invading the other’s space just a little . “ what are you doing ? anything exciting ? ” a pause , and then riley’s flopping back down on the chair , heaving out a large put - upon sigh . “ actually , why do i bother asking ? you don’t know how to do anything exciting . ”

it could very well be the vodka in his dirty shirley already making its presence known in his bloodstream that makes sixty minutes seem all the more daunting than it truly is. the busyness of the bar is another contributing factor, reminding ali in full that this cruise is filled with the heartbroken, willingly plucked out of their lives and chasing some sense of joy as they travel the globe. whether or not that involves momentary peace at the bottom of a bottle to forget their troubles is not something ali can fault them for. what he will fault them for is tipping so shitty when riley is visibly singlehandedly running the bar at an efficiency that has ali wondering if their feet are similar to that of the roadrunner, a blur of speed and kicking up dust as they propel back and forth down the bar. it’s bad enough riley still has to work under the hands of capitalism for another hour with people undeserving of their cocktail making skills, but they’re keeping them from hanging out !! unfair if you ask ali.

any irritation that may have been festering inside ali as he watches some man with an unfortunate receding hair line shove a single dollar into the tip jar while guzzling his drink is quickly dissolved when riley’s petname registers in his mind. a warmness takes root in his chest and steadily spreads, the true cause indistinguishable whether it be from his drink or his fondness for his friend. ❝ that’s too long, ❞ ali grumbles in response, definitely not pouting as he plucks off one of the maraschino cherries and stuffs it in his mouth. the juices of the cherry stain his fingers red, emitting a huff from his lips before wiping them off on his napkin. ❝ it’s a good thing i’m not very virtuous then. ❞ his reply is only slightly bratty, done more so to playfully mess with his friend rather than any sort of animosity. riley’s grin directed at ali momentarily stuns him as it sinks in that they’re willing to do all of what ali suggested. he was honestly just spitballing ideas of what they could do but riley being down for all had ali all the more excited for their shift to be over. while unexpected, it was appreciated. matching riley’s smile with his own, ali visibly perked. ❝ while i am mildly offended you think it’ll be the white claw that does me in, that all sounds awesome so i’m in. i’ve been craving fried shrimp all day. ❞ chocolate hues follow riley’s movements, laughter bubbling out past his lips when the other shakes their head. ali leans forward, giving into curiosity and gently cards his fingers through some of the strands. it was very soft. with his confirmation, ali drops his hand back down to the bartop. ❝ you stole it ?? nice. it made your hair feel super soft, plus it’s shiny. hell yeah i’ll try it !! especially if it gets my hair to look like yours. ❞ ali’s hand unconsciously drifts toward the nape of his neck, toying with the darkened strands that he’s ignored long enough for them to curl into a semblance of a mullet. ❝ is said rich dude or his friends into younger guys ?? asking for a friend, of course. he’s running low on body wash. ❞

𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 that breaks out on his face at ali’s whining . he reaches across the bar instead , pinches at one of his cheeks and purses his lips into a teasing moue . “ poor little baby , ” riley coos , nose scrunched up ; “ has to wait a whole hour for some fried shrimp . ” the conversation pauses for a moment as riley turns to greet a new customer , but as soon as they’re done , they’re back in front of ali , dropping a few more pieces of fruit in their drink . the loving gift is followed with an eyeroll and a scoff : “ oh please , don’t act like you don’t remember that time you had too many white claw surges . ” riley doesn’t bring up the fact that they , in fact , had also gotten absolutely plastered on those very same white claws as well . no one else needs to remember that . “ i only stole a little bit , ” riley corrects , changing the subject efficiently , “ he probably won’t ever notice . and if he does ––––- not my problem . ” eyes narrow . “ no older men for you , honey . none of the assholes on this ship are good enough for you . besides , just borrow some of mine . i have plenty . what’s mine is yours or whatever they say . ”

when it was announced that the ship would be docking in greece , devika couldn’t help but internally cheer . the acropolis museum was the FIRST thing on their list of sites to visit . steps halt in front of the statue of nike . “ it’s weird to imagine that these statues were once painted , ” she muses , turning to the person next to her . “ i almost prefer that they remain like this . what do you think ? ”

𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐟𝐟 , but even they can’t deny how cool it is to be standing in front of a sculpture that’s probably , like , a million years old or something . “ i had no idea , ” riley replies honestly , gazing up at the statue with a tilted head . they try to imagine it painted but for some reason , can only really somehow think of what it would look like if it was covered in cheap acrylic paint . “ i think it looks better like this . what do you think happened to the head ? ”

｡𓂃🪧 ㅤ۪ㅤ۫ㅤ੭ ﹕ greece is beautiful . that much she knows . when she left the ship this morning , heart didn’t really have an itinerary in mind . she just lets her feet take her wherever . ( mostly , she’s just following familiar faces around and hopes she won’t get lost ) . and rhodes town ? it’s just so amazing . literally almost everything is here . food stalls , souvenir shops , the view . she’s going to buy a lot later but for now , she’s trying to capture everything on her camera . she takes a few clicks and focuses on the background when her view suddenly becomes dark . she pulls away to check if something’s wrong but it turns out , someone’s just blocking her . “ excuse me . you’re kind of blocking the view . ” she says politely before realizing who they are . “ oh , you’re here too ? are you alone ? ”

𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 , riley’s thankful for some time off to relax and explore greece . he’s never travelled much before ––– the only places he’d ever really frequented were his home in thailand , and the busy streets of chicago . but this is unlike anything he’s ever witnessed . it’s gorgeous really , and with his headphones in blasting calming music , riley feels at peace for the first time in a long time . they don’t really notice the interruption , only hearing a voice directed at them when the music fades out . riley jumps , pulls out an airpod and steps out of the way immediately . they completely understand not wanting to block the view for others . “ shit , i’m sorry ! ” riley exclaims . they turn , realize who it is and then pause their music . “ oh , hey heart . yeah i’m alone , i kind of just wanted to take in the views , y’know ? ”

𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 on the other side of the bar and usually he loves it , but every so often he’s reminded just why he doesn’t necessarily like to go out . the creeps ––– they’re everywhere . doesn’t matter where in the world they are or how strong the clearly not interested vibes riley puts out are , they still don’t give a fuck . so he’s here , at a rooftop bar in greece , clearly trying to ignore someone that thinks that just because they bought riley a drink that it means he owes them anything more than a polite ‘ thank you ’ when they hear a familiar voice butting in to the one - sided conversation . “ i could have handled that on my own y’know , ” riley says with a scowl once the creep is sufficiently scared off . they stab the lime wedge further down into their drink with the straw before turning to look at their childhood friend with a smile . “ thank you though . i suppose i appreciate it . ”

𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 than getting under other people’s skin just for the fun of it . he’s not necessarily always a nuisance , that’s not really his brand , but there are some people that in their mind , absolutely deserve it . he’s on the sun deck attempting to get some of the sun that he’s deprived of working in a bar when he spots one their favorite targets , all alone , just waiting to be pestered . and riley knows it won’t take much : just their surely unwanted presence and some forced small talk should do the trick . he flops down on the chair next to abel , releases a lofty sigh . “ it’s a beautiful day out isn’t it ? whatcha’ doing ? ” they look over at the other , one eye squinted from the sun , annoying grin on their face .

“ah, ah— what are you doing?” callista protests, words running into each other, as she pried the alcohol away from her companion’s mouth. “you promised you’re the sober friend tonight, and i get to be drunk and carried to my room!” in reality, she was neither certain there was really any pact, nor if this is the same companion she’s been with for the past few hours. it’s just that callista would very much like to be wasted tonight, and she knew she needed someone to temper her inebriated turbulence. “what was your name again?”

𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 , they’ve learned one thing : ear hustling convos is one of the best ways to make time go by faster . they’ve gotten almost scarily good at it : staying focused on the task at hand while still managing to pick up juicy tidbits of information from people too drunk to have any sort of shame . but sometimes –––– sometimes it’s necessary to intervene , as loathe as riley is to admit it . the person in front of them is drinking at an alarmingly fast pace . he’s honestly surprised they’re still going . “ i think you made that pact up in your head , ” riley says with a raised eyebrow . they wipe up a spilled mai tai from the nearly passed out person that’s an inactive participant in this conversation and pours a water to set in front of them . “ i’m gonna have security help her to her room and i’ll keep an eye on you okay ? my name’s riley . ”
