Franz Kafka, Letters to Felice
must you finish a thought? is it not enough to
A kind person whose social justice vocabulary is outdated or inadequate for the concepts they’re trying to communicate is a better person than anyone who’d rip them down as a bigot for not keeping up with the euphemism treadmill. Morality is measured by how you treat people, not how well you’ve memorized a continuously evolving set of shibboleths.
Zadie Smith, On Shame, Rage and Writing
Normal People, Jane Austen, and the Romance of Walking Around by @snoopysfriendwoodstock
“I watch him in the kitchen, and I think of how much it hurts to love somebody. How deep the hurt is, how almost unbearable. It’s not the love that hurts; it’s the possibility of anything happening to the object of your love.”
— Augusten Burroughs, Magical Thinking (via antigonies)
i think reading together is one of the loveliest things two people can do. reading out loud to each other, or reading two different books while lounging on the floor seems so dreamy.
This world is already too loud, too unkind for us to be harsh to each other.
“May you know the softness that comes from being well-loved.”
— India Ame’ye
Definisi kebahagiaan, personally:
Merasa cukup. Cukup dengan hidup, cukup dengan rumah yang ada, cukup dengan makanan yang hari-hari boleh dibeli dan makan dengan cukup. Merasa cukup dengan keluarga, small circle of friends but very dear and close to my heart.
Kadang rasa cukup tu dah boleh buat kita bahagia yang long-term. Tak perlu duit melimpah ruah, kawan yang ramai atau keluarga yang besar. Cukup dengan apa yang ada tapi membahagiakan.
the new subwayhands post is so sweet 🥺

“He held her hand. Happiness is this, he thought.”
— Virginia Woolf, from Mrs Dalloway
from Loneliness: coping with the gap where friends used to be by Olivia Laing for The Guardian
[Text ID: Last night, I ate dinner with my friend Jenny. In real life, on a warm London evening, forking up aubergine from the same plate. We laughed, shared family news, told each other the things we’d been worrying over. At home, alone in my study, they’d felt insurmountable, a sign that something was irredeemably wrong with me. Under the gentle scrutiny of my friend, they diminished to a normal size: just the grit of everyday traffic with other humans. I walked home feeling buoyant, nearly invincible. I need my friends. I bet you need yours.]
Does that make any sense? — Yeah.

The life I want to be living is this: going for long autumn and winter walks listening to podcasts, coming back home to a flat with enough natural light and the ability to get fresh air, my environment and belongings being clean and organised, running a hot bath to read in and feeling the water heat up my chilled bones, working on my own projects and writing, cooking nutritious and tasty food, having a comfortable sofa to sit on in the evenings.
