Starlight System coining blog! Main system blog is @star-light-sys but doesn’t get much use, most folks who post have their own blogs :P

No NSFW and no radqueer terms! We don’t vibe with those. Other than that, we’ll do basically anything for requests, but especially system/plurality terms and agere/petre terms! Bear in mind that your request might take some time if we need to familiarize ourselves with what it’s about.

Anyone is free to use our terms regardless of stance (not that we could police that anyway), but this blog is not a place for syscourse! Our belief is that discussions should be had with respectfulness and compassion, regardless of where you stand on things.

Ephemeran-Heavy System

An ephemeran-heavy system is one where most of the members are ephemerans. Because of the short-lived nature of ephemerans, it can be difficult to tell if a system is ephemeran-heavy, and thus it may be easier and more useful to define it by the low number of members who aren't ephemerans.

Coining: Ephemeran

An ephemeran is a headmate who exists for a short time. They form to serve a particular purpose or function in response to a situation, and don’t stay once that situation ends. They may also linger for some time after.

Ephemerans usually aren’t as developed as more elaborate headmates, limited to a voice, name, appearance, or something else entirely. It can also be used as an adjective attached to a role (ephemeral caregiver, ephemeral protector, ephemeral hygienist, etc.)

This was coined to be a non-modular counterpart to the term "flare" since, as far as I'm aware, we're not a modular system.

For us, the only ephemeran I’ve experienced was a woman who wore red and had messy blonde hair in a bun, and maybe had red-tinted circular glasses. She kept an eye on things while I was regressed with someone, to make sure I didn’t do anything wrong and that I communicated well enough. She didn’t actually front herself, just kept an eye on things from the back.

Since her appearance is all we know about her, we decided to use her colors for the flag.

Coining a few new terms!

Clam Shell — A shell who closes around the whole system. They’re also able to “open up”, allowing other headmates to front more directly instead of through them.

Pearl System — The system encompassed by a clam shell, if such a description feels accurate (i.e. you use it if it feels right to use it)

Turtle Shell — A shell that is always present and doesn’t go away or open up, and headmates always have to front through them.

Covert Fronter

A covert fronter is someone who does things quietly or covertly while in front. Their presence isn't announced or noticeable, usually only recognized by the actions they do. A covert fronter is not exhibiting passive influence, as they are prominently in front, controlling the body actively and directly.

A few folks on the Pluralpedia Discord helped me settle on the name for this term. An alternative term for it is éminence grise, which I got from kulupu Gestalt over there :3

Comfiture / Comfyer

A comfiture is a headmate who puts the body in a comfortable position for sleeping or generally resting, usually doing so when the body is already tired or prepared/inclined to sleep. Barring any other roles they may have, a comfiture does nothing to make the body sleep or to lull anyone to sleep, only getting the body in a comfortable position to do so.

The name comes from the words “comfy” and “posture”. Other posture-related roles might use “-ture” as a suffix, idk. For simplicity’s sake, it can also just be called comfyer.
