Book recommendation for everyone struggling with this! The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

Talks specifically about the fact that and the reason why we keep thinking about the future and past and thereby make our present stressful, even miserable, while also providing a solution to this compulsive behaviour. Helped me a lot, personally.

My dog's really a study in Buddhism. He can see my muffin wrapper and he's miserable. Crying. He needs to eat my muffin wrapper so bad.

I get up and throw it away. He forgets about it immediately and happily goes to sleep.
